Post by Number-25 Fri 24 Aug 2012, 3:57 pm

Ok everyone, here we go! After long last, and after a lot of worrying from me that this was a far harder job to do than it actually was, here is the 606v2 East league homepage. Got to give a lot of thanks to Crazy Dave - I hadn't actually realised the extent to which he had laid this on a plate for me by sending me the format. I thought there was going to be a lot of work for me but there really was virtually zero as it turned out!

Anyway, first bit of business that I need to sort out is clarifying who are the owners of All of the Lights and Raiders of the Lobbed Pass. I know they belong to sodhat and Dominic Dicoco but I don't know who's is who's. If you could let me know then that would be great thanks.

Second, I just need to complete a couple of bits in the History section but will do that later when I can actually get access to the league page on NFL.com.

Last thing is the draft time. There was an emerging feeling on the other thread that making it sometime on Sunday evening was preferred to 4 o'clock in the afternoon. That would make it clash then with the keeper league draft since it is due to kick off at 8.30pm. Do we want to stick with 4pm or change it to another day and have it in the evening? Is it a problem if it is on another day from the West league draft? I don't see that it should be other than maybe those picking early could be influenced by what others in the West league had done but that would be their choice and I'm not sure that's really a problem. I think a poll may be the best way to resolve this one!

You beat me to it there sodhat! Have changed that now... although for some reason it's not showing up yet in the original post despite it doing so in the preview before I sent it. I guess it'll sort itself out soon enough.

Could one of our mods set this thread as a sticky please and take down last year's East league thread? Most appreciated! Cheers OK

I've posted this in the West and figured I should do it here too...

--------------------

You would be best advised to go into My Team > Pre Draft Rankings > Edit Preferred Positions (A small link above the main display of your player rankings) and edit the rounds you wish to allow the CPU to pick certain positions.

If you leave it as it is (i.e. all positions available in every round) the CPU will pick a DST in round 8 and a Kicker in round 9 regardless of whether anybody at that position is at the top of the player rankings when it your turn to pick.
This is because the Autopick engine priorities filling each starting position ahead of filling the bench. I would personally not advise doing this, and restrict the CPU to picking DSTs and particularly Kickers in much later rounds.

I know a few of you will know this, but figure it my help some of the new guys have a better draft if they cannot make it on the day. Smile

Good work Number25 (& Crazy-Dave), nice to see the East up and running... Yahoo

I'm good with 4pm if its on the Sunday, but happy to do an evening draft on another day (Monday 3rd?). To be honest i reckon unless you have lots of feedback just pick a time and stick to it.

Ok East, we need to get on with some Draft discussion...

Can't believe last year I picked 13th in the East, and managed to get both Brees and Megatron. These 2 are currently 6th and 7th highest ranked!!

Picking 4th this year, bit of a dilemma whether to go for a stud QB or RB. Or defence Wink

I'm happy for any time on Sunday, I will make sure I have the time set aside to be there

Preference is evening given the choice, purely because I will 100% be at home without needing to move stuff about

This is my first draft TM, I have no idea who to expect will be available when I pick 8th!

8th a good spot I reckon. Should be able to get a tip top player first round (poss Stafford or Cam?!?), and then it ain't too long to wait until you go again.

I would recommend having a practise live draft before Sunday if you get the chance.

Someone mentioned practice drafts actually - are they on the site somewhere?

I'm wondering how high Darren McFadden might go. He's looked good in pre-season and if he stays healthy he'll get big points. It's always an 'if' with his health though...

He's averaging 14th on drafts currently.

I guess some players are more injury prone, but at the end of the day any player could bag a season ending injury on day 1, luck of the draw i suppose...

Yeah I got Jamaal Charles in the 1st round last year and he had season ending injury! Hard work when your no.1 pick is out for the season!

You should be able to pick up McFadden with the 8th pick. Should still be some quality rb's at that point (Jones-Drew, McCoy etc) but any of them could go down in week 1!

Yes go into Draft Center > Mock Drafts and there are various draft types taking place every minute or so. There not always full (normally 75% Human, 25% CPU at the start, dropping toward the end as humans pull out) and you may have to wait around 20 mins to get a league of our format (14 teams, non PPR, non IDP) but they do pop up and you should hopefully be able to draft from your slot

McFadden is slightly overdrafting with the 8th pick, however that is more to do with injury proneness than production. If he works out he is almost a bargain there, but I would still rank him in the 12-16 range

McCoy will probably be gone by number 8 unless the East goes on a QB frenzy in round 1. He is the clear number 3 RB in fantasy behind Foster and Rice and his ADP at the moment is about the 5th pick

I got MJD in one of my autopick leagues in the mid 20's (3rd round 10 team league, broadly the end of our round 2). Could be an absolute steal if he actually turns up and plays from day one!

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a try a bit later today and see what may happen.

I don't think I could take McFadden at 8 with the risk of injury, but if he is available much after 12 or so I would be surprised. By the look of it we'll have to be running it to stay in games this year.

What is the scoring basis in our league - same for passing TDs as rushing ones?

Should be standard NFL.com scoring like I have got the West running. See League > Settings for the full info but passing TDs are 4pts and rushing 6pts to answer your direct question

Thats should be fine...

"Snake" means the order is randomised 30 mins before draft time and then goes as a snake.

"Custom" means you can pre determine the order, as I have in the West and Nymber_25 here, but within the custom option we still get to pick from standard, snake, etc. as the way in which the CPU generates the remaining rounds of the draft

Yeah, no need to worry about this TM. I got a bit confused by this when I saw it at the time but all it is is that NFL.com's default for the draft is a random snake draft which it will set the order for 30 minutes before the draft. If you want to set an order in advance of that, then you have to change the default from "snake" to "custom". Doing that allows you to set a draft order and then you also have to check a box to say whether you want your custom draft to be snake or linear. Can totally reassure you that the current settings are for a snake draft in the order that I put up on here previously. OK

Make sure you follow my tip above about restricting when the CPU is allowed to take a DST or a K

I don't think the date/time is definite yet, I can make Sunday but am happy to move to one night next week if it means more people are going to make it.

I like the Sunday time as it is, but would be free some other nights if needs be.

Understand if the consensus is Sunday, but won't be on the net again until Monday night so if enough people are happy to move it to Monday...

Must admit, Monday night around 8.30pm would suit me best. Feel in a slightly awkward spot here as league manager that it might look like I'm moving it just to suit myself though!!

Here's the plan - I'll set up a poll with two options - Sunday at 4pm and Monday at 8.30pm. Don't want to go any later than Monday night cos the opening game is on Wednesday night so any later would just be too close for comfort in my view. I'll give people until 6pm on Saturday to cast a vote and at that point we'll go with the majority and that'll be that.

The draft is most fun if you can get as many people as possible taking part so no harm in reassuring ourselves we've done our best to make that possible.

Maybe have another option for people who can make both so that way we'll find out which of the 2 slots people definitely can't make and then go with the other.

Evenin/mornin all!!

Just putting a post up to say that the draft time for the 606v2 East league has been changed and will now be held on Monday 3rd of September at 8.30pm. This decision was made as a result of the poll I put up on Friday 31st August. Seems that this is the time that we should be able to get as many of us online as possible. Gives you all an extra 28 and a half hours to digest all the roster cuts and what it means for the various teams!!!

You should all by now have had an e-mail via NFL.com and a Private Message via this site from me to let you know of the change of time.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as poss on Monday on NFL.com for the draft. OK

One last thing to mention.... The West league pumped us last year in terms of how much chat they had on their homepage about how their league was going. We've gotta address that this year and to that end, I'll do my best over the next few months to get keep the chat going on our own homepage. That may from time to time mean that I stoop to some crass trashtalk ahead of the weekend's games! If nothing else, I'm sure none of us here in the East league will enjoy seeing Crazy Dave lording it over us with how good his West League homepage is so let's make sure that doesn't happen!!! I think that may well be the first in what I hope is a ton of trashtalking posts we get on here over the next few months! It's the NFL after all... trashtalking is what it's all about boxing

Anyone done any mock drafts yet? I've done a few on NFL.com cos I'm really unsure what to do at the number 11 pick. I had no idea how awkward a spot this was to pick at until I sat and had a look and realised (in my view) there's a clear top 10:-

Foster, Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Rice, McCoy, Stafford, Newton and the two Johnsons, Calvin and Chris.

At pick 11 I could have Darren McFadden who could be a fantay demon....... if he stays healthy! Not saying the above guys will go in that order but if any of them slip to 11 then I'd find it hard to resist.....

In my mock drafts, almost 100% of the time, I've found myself taking Rob Gronkowski at pick 11. Is that mental???

Technically this is still "my" East league homepage...

And this is my 8th post on this thread, so make sure you subtract that when comparing to the West Wink

woohoo, DRAFT DAY (at last Wink )

just had a peek at the West, mikey picked 4th and ended up with T. Brady (QB), M. Turner (RB), R. Bush (RB) as his first three

in the Keeper, 4th Pick went with R. Rice (RB), M. Jones-Drew (RB), W. Welker (WR)

be interesting to see how ours compares with the West/Keeper Leagues....

as a starter for 10, i'm planning on

2 x QB
5 x WR
4 x RB
2 x TE
1 x DEF
1 x K

what i did last year was bring in a second kicker/Def when they were on a bye

Ah, right, so you should have at least 2 of everything really?

I did a mock over the weekend and I ended up just randomly selecting players at the end! I picked 10th and got Cam Newton and Calvin Johnson though, which was surprising. I can't remember what RB I picked up but the guy that went first took Peyton Manning - must have been a Broncos fan Laugh

Agree with what TM Moot said

Also try to fill all your starting positions except Def & Kicker 1st
so in the 1st 7 rounds pick 1 x QB 2 x RB 3 x WR & 1 TE in any order you like

ideally you should have a spare QB, RB, WR, TE, K & Def on the bench, so you can cover any upcoming bye weeks, but you can always pick up spares off waivers during the season, i think last year i got the 49ers kicker midway through, and he was a monster Very Happy

One other wee word of advice - don't use Internet Explorer as your browser for the draft.... I did that last night in the keeper league draft and it was a disaster!!! Damn thing wouldn't work properly and I kept getting timed out and it just made my picks for me. It started fine and I got the guys I wanted for the first 5 rounds but picks 6 through to 10 were autopicked for me and I got Stevan Ridley (you can't possibly take a Pats QB that high!!), Kenny Britt (could be great, could be awful depending on how his off-field stuff goes and his knees hold out and Jake Locker plays), Sebastien Janikowski (yes, I really did end up with a Kicker as my 8th pick) and the Bears defense (a defense in the 9th round.... THE 9TH FREAKIN ROUND!!!)!!

Seems that a lot of the other guys were using Chrome as their browser..... I shall be doing that tonight and I'd advise you all to do the same!

I got Victor Cruz off waivers last year in about week 3..... happy days Cool

As for how many of each player you should draft, the advice the guys have already given is sound. I tend to try and fill out my starting RB and QB spots in the first 3 rounds and then look for my WRs and TEs. However, a lot will depend on how the draft shakes out. With the mocks I've done and also last night's keeper league draft, there were still some good QBs sitting there in the 4th, 5th and 6th rounds. I'll be honest, once it goes past around the 6th round or thereabouts, I'm all over the place. The first 2 or 3 rounds are fairly easy cos most guys you're looking at there are going to have good seasons barring injury. The last 2 or 3 rounds are easy cos it's a bit of a lottery by that point and unless you have some serious inside info about who could be a good sleeper, you're prob just gonna take BPA or maybe stock up on a position that you want to have a lot of depth in. The middle rounds are where it could all be won and lost - there are lots of players there who could have great seasons and lots who could have duff seasons and unless you've done your homework, which I haven't, the 90 seconds that you get to make your pick is a very fast 90 seconds!!!
