Disappointed again with Lewis. Admittedly he got us a cheap wicket on the first evening but undid any good with figures today of 0 - 76 from 13 overs. He also bowled 2 more no balls. He's now conceded over 100 runs this season just through over stepping the line. That's particularly damaging in a generally low scoring season and totally unacceptable for an experienced and presumably expensive signing.
Guildford - on checking I was surprised to see Lewis' bowling average in the cc this season is currently around 31. It does seem a good many matches since he made a telling contribution with the ball. He must have picked up a few wicket back in April.
The figures for the Brain are pretty depressing....Batting average of 18, bowling average of 59. The Brain is currently in his 13th match of the season. Meanwhile KP in just his 3rd match has already scored considerably more runs.

Corporal - yes, that's very much it with Lewis. He did well - including a fivefer - in the bowler friendly conditions early on but, there again, so did most bowlers of his type then. I suspect the Viscount would have been equally effective in those conditions. I did feel that several on the wallpaper site were judging and over praising him too soon; several there now seem to be coming round to my line of thinking.
The Brain has been a complete disaster. I know several who had him in their Fantasy Team in April. I think Carrot was one!

Re: surrey vs somerset match thread
Hi JimBob - what do you think's going on?
Four overs of buffet bowling immediately after lunch (conceding almost 50 runs and getting Pietersen out!!) and now the 'proper' bowlers are back on?!
My guess is that it was to move the scoring on a bit (but not too much) for a declaration coming fairly soon ....

Re: surrey vs somerset match thread
It turns out that any thoughts of a declaration only belonged to Somerset. Churchy reckons those 4 overs of 'joke' bowling were to 'try and tease Surrey into declaring'.
Churchy didn't quite say it but suggested that (a) Jones mucked things up by getting Pietersen out too quickly or (b) Pietersen mucked things up by getting out to Jones too quickly.
Surrey 297 -5 at tea, a lead of 320. Game going nowhere. A shame but probably understandable as we couldn't afford to lose this match and a draw isn't a bad result.
Just have to hope now that Worcs don't beat Middlesex. I'm backing our London neighbours despite the continuing excellence of Alan Richardson ....

Totally agree, JimBob.
As the Corporal points out above, it's not only his batting that has been so disappointing. His bowling has also been very ordinary with an average of 59. I appreciate he's only a fifth or sixth bowler but he did chip in usefully with a couple of wickets here and there last year. He's hardly ever looked like doing that this season.
If we were sitting comfortably in mid table (like Arsenal do these days

I'm sure there'll be further calls for Spriegel though. The real danger is that Jordan might get another game ....

Meanwhile, a century for the Baron.
Not really under any pressure but he's still to be congratulated. His second Championship hundred in consecutive matches.
Jos Buttler comes on to bowl. His first ever bowl in first class cricket. ''I think they're off breaks but I'm not quite sure.'' - Churchy.

Re: surrey vs somerset match thread
I know this one wasn't exactly the most challenging hundred ever but I wonder if Harinath has now finally turned the corner. He should surely be nailed down for the rest of this season, hopefully continued into next year where I could see him and Burns opening unless we bring another one in.

Re: surrey vs somerset match thread
Bizarre passage of play after lunch, as commented on by others. A few overs when they score @ 15 an over, then a bunch of maidens....
The explanation give above by Guildford is no doubt the right one. But at the time from just looking at the scores coming through I was thinking that a target of X off Y overs had been agreed between captains but KP was getting them there too quick so a few maidens were needed. That theory clearly turned out to be wrong so I then assumed that a target had been agreed but one of the teams had ratted on the deal and it was called off....
