Rangefinder query Empty Rangefinder query

Post by shclaff Sat 24 Nov 2012, 9:15 am

My playing partner has recently treated himself to a top of the line rangefinder. We're playing in a 4BBB winter league and in a couple of weeks we're playing notoriously arsey opponents who often call people up on technicalities.

Just wondering, are we within the rules to share the rangefinder? Or can my partner only use it for himself?

Would appreciate any advice.

Providing the club has a local rule that allows the use of lasers/GPS units and that the laser doesn't measure slope inclination or measure windspeed then he should be ok.

Pretty sure you can share the information. It's not classified.

I believe you can even allow your opponents to use it. It does not constitute advice, and is only providing readily available information on yardage.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to actually use his laser but he can definitely give you yardages. There may be some silly technicality about sharing equipment but as puligny says, giving a yardage is not classed as advice.

D4S - hi, how goes it? Hayling next year then? It was one of the few I weighed up before Opting for Remedy. Fabulous course, the only links in Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset?

Were definitely allowed to use lasers at our place so that solves it. Thanks for the help.
