Basically just what it says on the tin.
What is the best/favourite cover songs that you have ever heard.
Was listening to Damien Dempsey's cover of a Rainy Night in Soho by The Pogues the other day and had forgot how well he'd covered it. To my mind its one of the greatest love songs ever written and always see it as such a shame that Shane mac Gowan has went the way he has.

Rolling Stones cover of Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCu7Qq1J-Jw
For me personally the best thing the Stones ever did was this cover and Mick Taylor was at his supreme best.

Re: Covers
Hero, they're 3 of the most played songs on my ipod. Don't mind Cash's cover of "One love" either.
Cari, I've only started listening to Dempsey recently. Fire in the Glen is a great song and his versions of The Foggy Dew and Rocky Road to Dublin are great too!

NYC Paddy
Spraypaint Backalley

Canadian Geese

Add Rolf's version of Stairway to Heaven and you have the perfect list
More seriously, I'd go with those three plus Joe Cocker's version of A Little Help from my Friends.

Cheers Cari. Best news I'd heard in a long time was that Dempsey and Glen hansard were opening for Springsteen on the 1st of his 2 nights in Kilkenny!

I was meant to be going to see him before Christmas in The Empire in belfast but due to a lack of a job and money had to turn down the tickets. Was not a happy man!

Oh that's a big fat bummmer. I hope to see him live one day, but I'll just have to make do with the CDs for now.

I've never heard this version but I will have a listen. Rainy Night in Soho is in my top 5 songs easily.
I really like Florence and the Machine's cover of The Source and Candi Staton's You Got the Love.

Oddly enough considering he's someone who's work is often covered by others I've always really liked Dylan's version of The Boxer.
