The GOAT Competition - Page 6 Empty The GOAT Competition

Post by Adam D Thu 21 Feb 2013, 9:35 pm

First topic message reminder :

Good Evening all,

You might have noticed that the GOAT section has been removed for the time being.

I am sure you will all agree that this has been a great feature over the last month and a huge thank you to MtotheC (and competitor champions)for running a very good event.

Unfortunately, after an indepth investigation, we have discovered widespread skulduggery when it has come to the voting of several ties.

Due to this, we have temporarily suspended the competition whilst we discuss what to do next. Needless to say, the member has received a permanent ban and this will not happen again.

Feel free to leave suggestions below but we are looking at specific ties and the possibility of rerunning these.

For the time being though, I would like to thank you all for your continued contributions to these threads - service will resume shortly

Excellent, it'll be good to get back to debating unknowns vs heavily supported but over-rated familiar names The GOAT Competition - Page 6 3559488474

Squash is sadly a boring spectator sport. It just doesnt take well to viewing. that is probally its major problem!

Ahem, Golf isn't exactly thrilling Oakey? Dreadful viewing made almost intolerable by the people who produce and present the USPGA. Wretched.

Ryder Cup is fast becoming the only tournament worth your time.

Maybe, if we talk nicely to M to C we could one day do a G.O.A.T. version of what is the most boring sport... got to say I much prefer the contact sports meself.

SR.

The majors ,WGC's, players, Euro Pga, ryder cup are allways worth my viewing thanks!

the US coverage dont help matters though.

Squash is tough to cater for an audience, it has a different problem..

The spectating of sport is pretty tiresome in general. A poor poor substitute for playing.

... But on the other hand far less physically demanding.

Squash, despite their best efforts, is tough to televise, but I'd suggest has always been relatively boring to watch at a high level... It's a generalisation, but the better you are, the more attritional it becomes. Thoughbinguess that doesn't stop people watching the French open tennis.

Loads Mac.

Golf (lets call it a sport for this example)
Running
Cycling
Five a side
7 a side
11 a side
Snowboarding (ok, more past-time than sport, but still do a couple of weeks every winter)

Dont really have time or the patience to watch someone else playing a sport. Can't remember the last I could bring myself to endure a full 90 minutes of spectating. Too boring and it's a long time to sit down.

My sports.

Guitar playing, tapping on a keyboard. (good finger excercise)

Driving, walking, golf.. oh and snooker and pool.. maybe the odd game up picking up pints to my mouth and perhaps some darts.

I also carry shopping occasionally. The other day I carried a 55 inch samsung from the shop into my living room.. Jeas that was an effort!!

They are sports if he is competing though..otherwise, yes, suppose its just a bit of exercise. One one of the reasons i feel the mind is more important than the body in sport. At the top level, its all about how you mentally deal with what's in front of you. Physical conditioning is just preparation.

Oakey, you're just being a bell now. I have competed at all those "sports".

What I don't really get is the fanatical support an armchair has for a team, when they have no influence or say in what happens. Seems like a terrible waste of time and money to me. I'd rather be out there doing something, whether or not it is competitive.

By the way, is your 55" telly bigger than your front window? Apparently the bigger your tv the lower class you are. Laugh

I dont even have a front window. Just a massive balcony back one.. Yep I live in an apartment (not a flat!!)Whistle

Which brings us back to Joey Chestnut

″I will not stop until I reach 70. This sport isn't about eating. It's about drive and dedication, and at the end of the day hot dog eating challenges both my body and my mind.″

You are including him in the poll arent you?

Apologies all this was supposed to be today, however due to unforeseen circumstances (my boss dropping a load of work on my desk at 9am this morning) it's been delayed.

Will be postponing the restart until tomorrow morning.

Apologies.
