Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Very frustrating day at Lords today.
Middlesex ended on 320-3. Will Beer ended on 2-55. He made his first start of the season today, the young leg spinner, replacing the injured Monty.
Chris Rodgers made 161 not out, after Mike Yardy dropped him on 3 Good news for all Australia fans there though, ahead of the ashes. He will be one of the players to look out for i recon.

That's a bit more like it! 0-61 with 8 no balls off 19. Important day for him and Sussex today.guildfordbat wrote:I can't believe that Jordan's form - and allied to that, his fitness - will last.
I keep expecting his next return to be around 0-65 - including half a dozen no balls - from 9 overs but he keeps proving me wrong.
All very odd. It wasn't as if Surrey didn't rate him. They did and they certainly gave him opportunities which largely weren't taken. Questions are now starting to be asked about Surrey's coaching - in particular, how come he's only really prospered away from the Oval?
I can't answer that although it does perhaps show once more that cricket is not an exact science. Certainly Jordan's success so far this season is doing nothing to improve Adams' credibility with his many critics as Surrey continue to under achieve.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Nick - after my rather flippant post immediately above about Jordan, only right to belatedly say this was a very good and fair one from you. Many Surrey fans regard Sussex as having "stolen" Hamilton-Brown when he first went to Sussex. However, I'm not so convinced his career was about to take off first time at the Oval.NickisBHAFC wrote:Sussex have always been a county cricket club with little money but have always been praised for the superb coaching and whole set up down at Hove. Hence the superb success in all formats since 2005. RHB when he first joined Sussex we improved him as a player and we look to be doing the same with Chris Jordan. A lot of Sussex fans are saying Jordan is the next Robin Martin Jenkins.

Looking like a Sussex defeat
Ed Joyce and Luke Wright did bat superbly well today though. So the chance of a draw isn't impossible. Ideally if we get a bit of rain tomorrow, should avoid defeat. But sunny spells all day tomorrow, should never complain about that!

Sussex have smashed the odds and come away with a draw at lords
Luke Wright made 187. Superb batting from him in the 4 days of play. Hopefully he can start to knock on England's door again. Superb player. He formed a great partnership with captain Ed Joyce who hit 98 and did admit he made a big mistake at the toss.
Middlesex finished on 50-3 and that wasn't enough. Sussex drew.

Surrey end the day on equal terms. That doesn't happen very often.

Decent Draw yesterday against Surrey, but still need to win some more if we want to win the County Championship!
Big game today in the pro 40 league against Northamptonshire, to conclude the weeks festival at Arundel.

Crap defeat yesterday against Northamptonshire. Like Ed Joyce said that's that for our pro 40 competition. Might as well give the fringe and young players a game from now on.

What do you think of Ed Joyce as a captain Nick?

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Well he is doing a class job in the County Championship. Admittedly we have drawn a fair bit recently, but we don't have as good of squad as others and are still very much in a title challenge. He made a poor decison at the toss against Middlesex a few weeks ago
40 overs have been a bit of a shame but we have had a lot of bad luck tbf.

Lost in the 40 over league again the other night at Kent. Despite Luke Wright hitting 115.
Away to Nottinghamshire today, won't mean anything and i think were just playing fringe and youth players today.

Yeah he is enjoying this competition with the bat atm. Lets hope it continues. Chris Nash also did the opening batsman job to perfection.

Tbf we have been so unlucky. The umpires screwed us over on Wednesday night, for an all manner of things. Last night we should of won.
I still recon we will qualify. But if we slip up in the next 2-3 games, it becomes extremely worrying.

T20 is a bit of a disaster atm however the championship is still going well
End of the first day, Somerset all out for 244 and Steve Maggofin took 4-65. I don't understand why he doesn't' play t20.
Mike Yardy finished on an unbeaten 94.

Fantastic day for the Sharks, Mike Yardy and Matt Machan star with the bat, whilst James Anyon is too hot for the Somerset batsman to handle.

Sussex beat Somerset
Steve Maggofin the pick of the bowlers taking 4-65 and 4-36. He could well win player of the season, in the county championship. If he keeps his form up.
Mike Yardy the pick of the batsman hitting 156 and then an unbeaten 11 to see Sussex to victory.

McMuffin is a good bowler.
Can't help feeling Somerset showed lack of application in this match - first innings lasted 63 overs, second innings 51.

Whilst fully accepting that Sussex are head and shoulders above Surrey at the moment and look like maintaning that for some time, it does seem that Sir Chris's fivefers have now more commonly become twofers and not too economic at that.

In reply to Sussex's 229 all out, Middlesex are 445-5. Off 23 overs including 5 no balls, Sir Chris has 0-117.guildfordbat wrote:Whilst fully accepting that Sussex are head and shoulders above Surrey at the moment and look like maintaning that for some time, it does seem that Sir Chris's fivefers have now more commonly become twofers and not too economic at that.

Guildford - you beat me to it with your last comment. I was going to point out that Sir CJ's figures today ("economy" rate of 5+) are much more like those we had come to expect!

When I saw Chris Jordan at the Rose Bowl last week he was their best bowler and he was bowling with real pace.

CJ seems to have a bit of a Middx hoodoo! Was dreadful at Lord's for Surrey last season, disappointing (though he bowled well in patches without reward) at Lord's this year and seems to have been terrible this week!
Overall a much improved performance from Middx. Now we need to do something we couldn't do last time we played Sussex and finish it off.

Sir CJ dismissed early - as Luke Wright continues to play a lone hand in resisting Middlesex (153* out of 292 for 7 ) McMuffin out too, for a duck.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
After you absolutely pummelled us in round 1, I really thought we would spend the season fighting relegation. As it is we have gone to the top of the table!!
Sussex batting seems a touch flaky right now, putting more stress on the bowling. I know the seamers have gone well - but how is Monty doing?

He hasn't done badly, could of picked up a few more wickets. But i think its mostly been down to the superb bowling of Maggofin and Sir Chris Jordan. Also James Anyon deserves a shout, he has been very under rated throughout his carrer IMO.

Sir CJ will have only have marginally enhanced his England credentials by his bowling in Sussex's match against Australia - 14 overs 0 for 80 runs (econ rate 5.71).
Probably better prospects for Sussex's up and coming batsman, JWA Taylor, who is currently at the crease.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Sir CJ not doing too much better on the last day against the Australians. A useful 47 was rather tarnished by 0-34 off 8 overs including 4 more no balls.
Match figures of 0-114 off 22 overs. Knighthood or not, he'll need better than that to hold onto his first team place ....

Despite my doubts and mocking, Chris Jordan has now taken 50 Championship wickets this season. Ony fair to add that Jade Dernbach leads the way for Surrey with 25.

Chris Jordan > Surrey
Looking like a tight final 2 days against Derbyshire
Sussex all out for 314 with Luke Wells hitting 110, Superb batting again from him, certainly one to look out for as a future England player.
Derbyshire all out for 274, with Sussex taking a 40 run lead, Sir Chris Jordan taking 3-73, why on earth did Surrey give him to us!!!
On 14-1, i hope we can get a a 400 run lead, going, we need to act fast, if were going to win this match, a draw is looking most likely atm though IMO.
