Horrendous collapse by Sussex this morning. It would take some doing to lose to Derby in the cc, but Sussex giving it a good go. Maybe however Sir CJ will bail Sussex out in his partnership with Luke Wright.

Sussex crushed by Derby (beaten by 9 wickets). Among other things leaves Surrey as only team not to have won a match in Div 1 of the cc.

Sounds like Monty is going back to Northamptonshire, been a melt too many times when drunk by the sounds of it. Means were going to need to get a new spinner in.

I really liked the look of Beer earlier in the season. Seemed to me he could do a job as first choice. Of course, as a leggie he's likely to have off days so you do probably need an off-spinner/ SLA in. Not many with Div 1 experience on the market though off the top of my head...

Effectively released as of immediate effect. Contracted till the end of the season, but will not play for Sussex again and available for any Div2 side to take on loan.

Good Riddance.
Going to be very hard to replace though, step forward Will Beer!

Good ending to the disappointing YB40 campaign, smashing Worcestshire with Luke Wright putting in a MOTM display and getting a deserved call up to the ODI squad to face Australia.
Time to pull the sleeves up and go all out for the county championship title

By finishing today at 58* Sir CJ has - for the time being at least - a higher batting average in this season's cc than RHB!

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Joe Gatting and Andy Miller released.
Both always going to happen, waste of players to have on the wage bill.
Gatting has never really done anything, good fielder but not good enough with the bat in any format of the game. Probably could get a contract with a Div 2 side, maybe Surrey!
Never saw anything of Miller, had a few good games for the 2nd's but never broke into the first team, probably because of the superb form of Maggofin, Jordan and Anyon.

Steve Maggofin, Matt Machan, James Anyon, and Chris Liddle all sign new deals.
Also sigend Seffan Pilot from Warwickshire. He has a good One day record and i can see him playing i key part for us in that. But i recon Will Beer will be our spinner for next season in the Championship, with Monty gone. Good news about the 4 signing new deals, Maggofin and Anyon were excellent in the championship. Machan superb in one day cricket as was Liddle.

John Lewis has signed from Surrey, i love his Christmas advert
But should be a good signing, another pace bowler, but i recon he is the death bowler we need for the t20 and one day format
Anzah Zadi has also signed a 2 year deal. Impressed when on trial from Accrington Cricket club recommended to the club by David Llyod. Him and Will Beer will fight it out for the spinner role ill imagine. Zadi more likely to be championship spinner with Beer getting the one day and t20 role.

Bumble has found a good one there! Has played f/c cricket in Pakistan playing 88 games...also took 4-57 on debut last year against Yorkshire and got some runs....is a very talented all-round cricketer.

Good start to the Championship. Opted not to go to Hove today due to the weather and was planning to go tomorrow, but im staying up for Wrestle Mania and the weather doesn't look great for tomorrow.
Got Middlesex all out for 105. With Jon Lewis taking 4-37. Great debut, reminds me of Sir Chris Jordan superb debut last season. Little bit of age diffrence though!
Currently on 82-3. Matt Prior (32) and Matt Machan (21) both at the creese. Hopefully both can stay around for a while.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Fantastic day at Hove.
Sussex getting 386. Matt Prior the star of the show, hitting 125, should hopefully be given a final chance in the test series coming up this summer.
Middlesex finishing up on 57-1. Going to be a great final day. Can see it being a draw though sadly.
Enough positives to take from this game though, shame about the weather yesterday really.

Nick - not a foregone conclusion but I reckon your boys will win tomorrow. The conditions should again suit Magoffin, Anyon and Lewis (a reasonable trio even though none of them made the grade at the Oval ). Probably too long a time for Middlesex to bat - their best chance of escaping with a draw will be to take more time out of the game through taking a lead rather than just looking to bat out all the overs.
Meanwhile, I see another Surrey old boy Chris Jordan was awarded his county cap today, following his 59 CC wickets last season. Massively improved player, reflecting well and badly on Sussex and Surrey respectively.

Great start and win for the Sharks!
Steve Maggofin picking up where he left of from last season to dismantle Middlesex, who i feel will be one of the favorites for the drop to div 2 this season.
Hopefully we don't have an end of season collapse this year, tends to be the pattern for Sussex get of to fast start and fall adrift when the football starts, because all the Albion fans watch the football instead!
Great start, keep it up!

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
What a crazy opening day at Edgbaston, 20 wickets falling!
Superb from the bowlers getting Warwickshire all out for 87. Steve Maggofin and Sir Chris Jordan both taking 3-15.
Batsmen then didn't perform, all out for 227.
Ed Joyce leading by example hitting 117. Other people not performing, RHB doing the classic getting into the zone and then screwing up.
God knows what will happen on day 2!

Well after a superb start yesterday, Sussex now doing there best to try and lose the game
Warwickshire ending the day on 387-7. Good news was that Ian Bell found some form and is unbeaten on 144. Sir Chris Jordan took 3-98. Not as good as his first innings figures!
Better day needed tomorrow.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Sussex go into the final day requiring 57 runs to win, surely the Edgbaston hoodoo ends now!
Managed to get Warwickshire all out in the end for 471, Ian Bell the master of the fight back hitting an unbeaten 189, whilst Steve Maggofin took 3-88.
Ed Joyce superb again from him, unbeaten on 125. Luke Wells also impressing hitting 57, really hope he gets a lions call up this year, one of the best batsman in the championship last season, just needs to find form again this season. Rory Hamilton Brown unbeaten on 48, needs to put performances like this on a regular basis, to nail a spot in the starting 11.

Nick - seems to have been a fantastic see saw game. Great credit to Joyce and, grudgingly, some to Hamilton Bown as well. Looks almost certain that Sussex will win now although fellow poster Hoggy will be desperately hoping that the Bears can upset the odds once more. I'll be content to see Hamilton Brown dismissed before the close.

Rain affected most of the morning play at Hove today.
Somerset finished on 83-3. With Marcus Trescotphick at the crease unbeaten on 39. Need to get him out early tomorrow. Sir Chris Jordan taking 2-30.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
As much as i love Sir Chris, i would keep him in the Lions at the moment, i would give Broad, Finn and Anderson the go. With Onions and Jordan as back up.
Disaster day at Hove today, the only thing that can save us is if it rains a lot tomorrow, which its not forecast to do so.
All out for 142, and Somerset chose to enforce the follow on. Luke Wells hitting an unbeaten 79, he is someone i really hope gets a Lions call up this season.
Currently on 162-6, with Ed Joyce (76) and Sir Chris Jordan (10) at the crease. Maybe time for Jordan to shine with the bat!

Superb batting from Mike Yardy today, rescuing Sussex today. Hitting an unbeaten 132.

Nick - yes, understandably good for you to have Nash and Wright back but I wonder if the balance of your team is right for this match. Might be a bit light with the ball. Wright has come in for Sir Chris but he (Wright) is clearly a much lesser bowler. In addition to Nash and Wright, I would also have brought in Hatchett and left out Hamilton-Brown.
Anyway, we'll see. Top knock from Yardy as you say.

Yeah i reckon Hamilton Brown will be dropped soon. Guy is just not delivering.
Hatchett has a make or break year, i would like to see him play more in the Championship and then just play Jon Lewis in the one days and t20.

Got Lancashire all out for 191, with Steve Maggofin taking 4-36
Currentley on 216-5, with a decent lead. Matt Machan (44) and Ben Brown (6) at the crease.
Think the match is easily heading for a draw though.
