You can't carry a player for his leadership skills beyond a point if there is no performance to back it up. Ponting anyways isn't great in terms of onfield tactics, and his captaincy hasn't made any significant impact for MI. So fair enough to have dropped himself. Tendulkar scored a 50 in the last game, and he has a quickish 40 as well, but it has been quite a no-show from Ponting.

MI won with a ball remaining. Sachin failed, but Dwayne Smith smashed 62, and Sharma and Pollard chipped in with handy contributions, and Ambati Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh where at the end when they needed 10 of 5 balls, a crucial 6 from Harbhajan redeeming his day somewhat, after a horrer of a first over with the ball where he gave away 26.

why was Ponting bought and brought ?
not for his batting....he wasn't much of a T20 player ever...but rather for captaincy.
perpetually chopping , changing experimenting MI....saw him as a leader.

now the Tendulkar conundrum has sacrificed him.

the win today...like most of MI's wins..comes on solo brialliances....rather than team effort

KPF, I feel a lot of MI's moves during the auction wouldn't make a great deal of sense. Glenn Maxwell is a case in point. Same with Ricky. He has been away from T-20 for some time, he had retired having suffered a form slump, and it was a poor call to make him captain.
Anyways, what do you think of IPL Sharma's captaincy?

Yes it's a case of Ambani having too much money....and bad advisors...and the entire Mumbai team unable to shrug off the forced greatness of "Bharat Mata ka Laal" tendulkar
they will continue to produce only flashes of brilliance......individual captains won't matter a lot I think

CSK v SH today. SH won the toss and are batting. Shikhar Dhawan returns after injury, to play his first IPL game of the season. Darren Sammy is also getting a game. CSK are unchanged.

SH are 12-2. Shikhar is still there, but Quinton de Kock and Hanuma Vihari are gone. Quinton to a fine catch from Murali Vijay, attempting a big shot before he got set, and Vihari was slow to respond to a call for a quick single and was run out by Raina.

SH are playing someone called Thalaivan Sargunam today. He has joined Shikhar Dhawan at the wicket following the end of a frustrating innings from Amit Mishra. Mishra scored 15 of 21 and hold out of Ashwin in the end. Sargunam seems to have played some club cricket in Tamil Nadu as well as in Sri Lanka.

Dhawan eventually came back to score 63 not out of 45, and young all-rounder Ashish Reddy smashed 36 of 16 to put up a challenging for SH. Chasing 159 won't be easy against Steyn, Mishra, Sammy and co.

Mishra is doing it again for SH, he has no pocketed both the CSK openers. Hussey in particular, was looking very dangerous indeed. 76-2 in the 10th over now, SH are pretty much back in it. Dale Steyn has bowled just the one over as of now.

Dale Steyn had MS Dhoni absolutely rattled throughout the over, and he should have had him there, but Amit Mishra dropped a sitter. Mishra was lucky with that Hussey wicket, nevertheless he had brought SH back into the contest, but that drop might undo all that work.

Karan Sharma has bowled 3 overs for 8 runs. MSD is really struggling out there, 4 of 13 as of now. CSK 86-2 after 12. 74 of the last 8 overs.

They take 12 of Sammy's next over and the pressure built up has come down considerably. Dhoni managed a couple of boundaries there, and he seems to have got going at last.

Mishra gets Raina to turn the balance again. Bravo with Dhoni. MS hasn't quite looked his usual self today despite those couple of boundaries of Sammy. Looks like someone else will have to do the job for CSK today, and yet again, they are building up to those last 4 over drama. 112-3 now, 48 of 33 at the moment.

CSK are just being CSK. 46 of 5 overs looked not that dramatic, so Bravo hasn't scored of the first 4 balls of Karan Sharma's last over and he survived a stumping appeal as well in the process.

Would you believe it, Bravo plays out a maiden from Karan Sharma, the 16th over of the innings. Dale Steyn has 2 more overs, think this might come back to haunt CSK. Bravo has been leaking plenty of runs with the ball, and he hasn't had much of an impact with the bat so far in the tournament. Will he force the team management's hands?

karan sharma bowls the 16th over of the inning a maiden...with a stumping denied I think....the umpiring is biassed in favor of home team owned by IPL and BCCI chief

4 over sof 8 runs for sharma take...a bow.

and the two leggies mishra and sharma have bowled 8 overs for 34 runs and 3 wickets.......amazing

Bravo should understand that he's not Mahendra Singh Dhoni!. He has wasted another couple of balls, and took the single of the last ball for good measure!!. 32 of 18, CSK still in control, but if Bravo fails to turn the strike over, then they could be in trouble here.

And Dhoni finishes things off with a boundary. Not out 67 is MSD, and he has won the game for his side. What a costly drop that was, from Amit Mishra. After being rattled by Steyn, Dhoni just took him apart subsequently!.

KKR attack looks better with Bret Lee in it IMO....Balaji isnt good enough on his own as part of a seam attack..

Jacques Kallis, who ones again proved his worth with the ball, seems to be putting behind his struggles with the bat this season, he's leading the KKR charge towards 150. KKR are 75-2 after 10 overs, and Kallis is on 37.

Now Kallis goes, goes for 37. Eoin Morgan walks in, with KKR still needing another 73 runs of 9 overs.

After losing their way in the last few matches, KKR are back to winning ways, win by 6 wickets, reaching the target of 150 with 10 balls remaining. Bisla remained unbeaten on 50 and Morgan provided the finishing touches with a 26 ball 42, although he wasn't exactly there at the end.

RR v SH and MI v RCB are the games of today. SH have set RR a total of 145 to chase. SH didn't look like reaching anywhere near that as their top and middle order failed badly, but Darren Sammy scored 60 of 41 and he got valuable support from Mishra and Steyn. In response, RR are 13-1 after 4. Dale Steyn provided them an early breakthrough when he got Ajinkya Rahane for 1.

An unbeaten 98 from Shane Watson with solid support from Rahul Dravid has seen Rajasthan through against Hyderabad. They did it rather easily in the end, the last 45 runs coming in 14 balls for Watson. RR had a dominant start with the ball with James Faulkner ripping out the SH batting lineup with 5 wickets, but then they slipped up a bit and provided SH a decent total, on a lively track, with Dale Steyn in the attack, SH had a chance, but Watson and Dravid didn't give them an opening.

Sachin Tendulkar provided a quick start for Mumbai with a 13 ball 23, and after a slowish start, Dwayne Smith has got going in the company of Dinesh Karthik. MI are 97-1 after 10 overs, looks like a big chase on the cards for RCB.

MI have ran up a massive score of 194-7. 50 for Smith, and handy contributions from Karthik, Pollard, Tendulkar, and Harbhajan at the end.

Gayle won't be winning this one for RCB, he's gone, Harbhajan with the big wicket. Everything down to AB and Kohli.

Now Kohli gone, RCB 42-3. AB is still there, but looks like the making of a huge defeat here for RCB.

i am surprisded by the pace dhawal kulakrni is generating...140+
looks like these otehr wise 125kph Ranji bowlers do not hold anything back in the 4 over spells...to maximize their prices for the next auctions.
