First topic message reminder :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22462525

BT Sport 1 and 2 will be free to BT Broadband customers. That is quite a lot of sport, including 38 live Premier Games. Quite incredible move, and might break the near-monopoly of Sky Sports. Hats off to BT for that.

Just seen their ad on tv, the 3rd sport they are advertising is women's tour tennis... They seem to have invested in Clare Balding etc

Now she was popular in the Olympics but keys and gray were far more popular and sky sports have gone from strength to strength without them- hope they haven't thrown too much cash at these presenters!

I read somewhere today that they are already planning on upping their broadband package prices.

Free eh?

Exactly, nothing is "free" in life, there will always be ways round it, where the cost works out around the same. Yes you might save a few quid.

People who actually believed this whole "free" thing must be pretty stupid.

Not really it looks like a good offer to build a customer base.

http://m.guardian.co.uk/money/2013/may/10/bt-sport-what-you-pay

I'd be surprised if this is a goer.

Essentially if you are already a bt tv customer with broadband you get the channels in hd for free if you sign up for a 12 month contract before August first - it's £3 quid a month after that.

Other than that you are gonna end up paying prob 50% more than other providers for your broadband (equivalent packages), might need a new line and have to sign up to bt tv. That's either £200 for a standalone set or £50 and a fiver a month.

Bt sport is £12.50 a month on sky apparently.

Also you've to rely on bt engineers if you switch, which is a nightmare.

Don't think ill be signing up anyway.

Not all of us can afford SkySports, especially me as a student. I'm looking into deals but especially getting top picks, I'm wanting to get BT Sports as part of the broadband deal.

Bts broadband is more expensive with more expensive line rental than others. You'll need to sign a 12 month sub before august (not ideal for a student) and get a box and a BT vision TV package unless you want to just watch through your computer.

Virgin used to do 9 month student deals so that might be your best bet then just get sky sports or BT sports through them depending on which line up you prefer.

I've been watching Sky Sports and ESPN on Top up TV for the last 18 months and have just received a letter saying they are no longer broadcasting the channels after this month.

Bit of a bummer that.

Theyve not been showing the FA Cup anyway, probably completely what they expect.

Sky will make moves just to remind people they are the power, but this is about the 4th challenge to their throne and not one has come close to taking the big prize from them.

BT Sport launches tonight. Certainly the few PL fixtures it does boast are of a much higher standard than the fare offered on Setanta and ESPN. Losing the Merseyside Derby, Tottenham v Chelsea, and Tottenham v Man Utd is certainly a bloody nose for Sky if nothing else.

Looks good but it was always was going to. Think Sky deffo have the edge on analysts etc, Owen n James are shockers. Gonna be funny seeing them using that big pitch for analysis. Hells bells is way past it now, needs freshening up especially with a rival channel now. Get charlie webster or sawyer in there now. Can see Lovejoy/Dawson doin a good job with their version of soccer am

Sky about to shoot itself in the foot with that useless clown Carragher though.

What a terrible way to follow-up the G-man as the best pundit/analyst there is.

Soccer AM with Hells Bells is appaling now and it's a weakness for Sky on a Saturday morning. BT Sport Show is being created to rival it with Lovejoy & Dawson. Seems a good move from BT to capitalise on a poor show now. I think Sky though are doing something with Beckham and kids to try and stop the BT surge on that morning. Not sure though of the details.

I've not liked Sky since the days of Keys and Gray. Sky Sports News is now too 'busy' on screen, far too much info being crammed on there. I feel like Sky don't care about sport any more.

Bt Sport is great and it is totally free. I am a bt customer and I got bt sports and espn for free my internet phone line and tv from bt costs £28 a month which is very cheap.

Also BT are showing a premier league game every week along with conference, fa cup and international football.

You can still get sky sports 1 & 2 for £20 extra on BT.

I also read that a million people have already signed up to change their internet providers to BT.

The virgin deal is great for bt as it means they will make more money from virgin customers.

But you only get bt sports fr free on virgin if you are on their most expensive package. On any other virgin package you have to pay £15 a month.
