Total Recall (2012) Empty Total Recall (2012)

Thoughts?

Farrell in the remake of the Arnie movie.

Both based on the Dick novel and both take the central premise and run in different directions.

For me, this felt like a chase movie on very expensive sets (or greenscreen to be correct).

Not as good as Arnies version but better than the critics would have you think.

Middle of the road, with two smoking ladies in it.

Went for 6/10. Thought Farrell was pretty good in it. The film started quite well and fell away in the end. I found Kate Beckinsale hard to watch to be honest and the whole special effects things just felt too much and isn't really my cup of tea. Would rather watch the Arnie version any day of the week.

Slightly preferred the Arnie version as silly as it was, rated both 7/10 on the imdb. Found Kate Beckinsale exceptionally easy to watch.

If she just stood still then I'd find her very easy to watch. I didn't buy the ultra hard woman act with her at all, found her well over the top, silly and woodern.

I was too smitten to be objective. The fight scene in the apartment had me wishing she was the welcome committee for me when I get home drunk.

Downloaded it, watched it the other week...kept falling asleep. Just dragged and I couldn't be bothered staying awake to catch any subtle nuances (I take it there weren't any).

Style over substance 4/10 (even though I didn't catch all the ending I doubt it was enough to drag it out of the doldrums)

I didn't enjoy it as much as the Arnie one, but it felt a completely different film. The question whether his was in reality or not was only really mentioned in one scene (stand off in the lobby) and even then it was over pretty quickly.

As an action film I rated it 7/10 as I thought it was a good chase movie with some good action scenes. It didn't need to be Total Recall though - it could have worked as a separate film.
