The Missing Link Empty The Missing Link

Post by GloriousEmpire Thu 30 May 2013, 10:31 pm

Here's a question I came across in a work organised pub quiz that got no answer on the night, see if you are smarter Hug :

What links the following songs:

Dave Brubeck : Take 5
Radiohead : 15 Step
Sting : Seven Days
Led Zeppelin : Four Sticks

Is it to do with unusual time signatures?

Did a bit of internet research on each song and seems they were all written, or partly written, in 5/4 time signature. I have no idea what that means but apparently it's quite rare.

Yeah, top skills. When i started looking at it, It's interesting how many of the "great" albums have 5/4 content on them.

There must be some subtle psychology, or maybe just indicative of some musicianship that gets picked up on even by Luddites like myself.

I imagine eventually industry whores like Simon Cowell will spot it and we will have endless X factor manufactured pop tarts belting out manufactured 5/4 radio friendly paff.

I'm not surprised it got no right answers in a pub quiz.

Person who set the quiz must've been a bit like Gareth from The Office with his questions on the military.

Prett sure 5/4 is inherently non-radio friendly!
