Personalised Jukebox
Little fun concept here.
Basically this is a recommend me a song thread but instead of just throwing random songs/ albums at people, the point of this is to post your favourite albums/ artists and for people to make a recommendation based on those.
So for example, if I said I liked Queen, you might recommend a Muse album.
So, I will kick things off by posting you a list of 5/6 artists I really like, and then you lot can have a look and make a recommendation.
Feel free to post your own lists and get recommendations back
Adam Ds current favourite bands:
Tom Petty
Matchbox20
They Might be Giants
Early Marillion/ Fish
Tenacious D
Recommend me an album!

Re: Personalised Jukebox
Hope I'm not way off the mark but American Fool & Uh-Huh by John Cougar/Mellencamp are both like raw versions of Tom Petty - he's one of those artists you might not know by name but whose work you'll know.

For a Dire Straits fan I would recommend Supertramp. Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson are great songwriters. Take a listen to their first album "Supertramp". It's a fairly typical progressive rock album but it is very very good. Obviously their main success was with "Breakfast in America" in '79 but take a look at the earlier stuff. It's good.

I would recommend either Counting Crows or Matchbox 20 based on the bluesy sound of both DS and DR!
the More Than You Think You Are album from Matchbox20 has some great melodic guitar rifts and some melancholic idling that I think you would like if you like Dire Straits.
Re: Personalised Jukebox
If you like The Killers you may like Editors or The Pigeon Detectives.

I do like the Editors and Pigeon Detectives, and Counting Crows. Haven't heard much Matchbox Twenty or Supertramp tbh, I'll listen to some. Thanks guys

Real mix there!
If you like Bastille you may like The 1975, and Tom Odell could be worth a listen although it is a little more downbeat.
For the bluesy stuff there is an album by Gary Clarke Jr, the name of which I forget, but there are some really good songs on there. And a couple of not so good, but still.

If you like the Kinks The Action and The Creation are very good, obscure sixties mod/freakbeat bands who never quite managed to be very successful. The Creation are the band Alan Mcgee named the record label after fact fans.

Cheers for the recommendation Rowley, I have had a quick listen and they sound good. Going to have a look for some CDs this weekend

Re: Personalised Jukebox
You tried the other big names like Ray Charles? Or if you like the blues-soul sound of those guys but in a band form, try the Alabama Shakes
