Tri-Nation Tournament West Indies - Page 2 Empty Tri-Nation Tournament West Indies

Post by msp83 Fri Jun 28, 2013 9:18 am

First topic message reminder :

Before the dust ssettles on the Champion's trophy, we have yet another Tri Nations tournament involving India. West Indies hosts the tournament with Sri Lanka being the 3rd side involved.
For West Indies, this is an opportunity to jell well under the leadership of new skipper Dwayne Bravo. Ramnaresh Sarwan is dropped due to poor form, and there is no place for young seamer Jason Holder either. West Indies have retained the rest of the squad that played the CT.
As for Sri Lanka, this tournament gives further opportunities to the likes of Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne and skipper Angelo Mathews to make the step up that reduce the side's real dependence on senior players like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Although both were in fime form during the CT, the younger players have to make the qualitative step sooner rather than later, as Kumar and Mahela won't be around for ever. Opener and senior player Tillakaratne Dilshan is out with an injury, otherwise Lanka have also retained the rest of their CT squad.
As for India this is an opportunity to consolidate the gains from the CT. The young squad should benefit from more game time with each other. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have the opportunity to firm up their place in the side. The slowish and lowish nature of the tracks in the West Indies should suit Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, and it presents a challenge to the quick bowlers to adapt quickly from the more friendly conditions in England, though there was no serious swing available in most of the games there. All-rounder Irfan Pathan is out with an injury, but the rest of the winning squad that played in the CT are there for this tournament.
Like most of the Tri-Nations tournament, this one is also a money spinner mostly due to India's presence, and it has come at the cost of a 2 test series between West Indies and Sri Lanka. There is no larger context to this tournament as such, but all the 3 teams have something to add to, consolidate, and improve up on.

India 98-3 after 26. A very very poor effort from Dinesh Karthik getting over. 23 of 56, and after wasting so many balls, he got out to the parttimer Marlon Samuels. Raina joining Sharma.

Of the 28 overs bowled so far, Sunil Narine has bowled only 3. The 5th bowler, a combination of Pollard and Samuels as of now, has bowled 6 so far. So India will have to target Narine when they have to step up.

And Rohit gives it away. He had to bat through this innings, the singles were coming easily since Raina came to the wicket, they both managed a boundary each in the over, Yet Rohit chose to go for the big hit and hold out in the deep. Disappointing. Dhoni and Raina have to now carry this innings and somehow take them to 230 at least so that the bowlers have something to bowl at.

I think India is doing the same what Sri Lankans did two days before. The way Rohit got out reflects the same. What could be a defend able total MSP in your views?

If Sir Christopher gets going, even 300 won't be enough!!!. Otherwise, under normal circumstances, I think 250 will be a decent total. The slow bowlers have proved difficult to get away. Ashwin and Jadeja are in good form, and the skipper can call up on Raina and if needed Rohit as well to offer some additional spin options.

Batting powerplay will be very crucial. Think India will gladly take 40-0. They badly need MS and Raina to stay together for majority of the remaining 15 overs. Sunil Narine should be bowling half of it.

That will be the most important wicket for India when they will bowl. with 15 to go India need some firework here from both raina and dhoni. 120 more needed for a defendable total.

India 160-4 after 40. Only 27 of the powerplay. But more importantly for India, Raina and Dhoni are still together.

The strategy of keeping most of Narine's overs for the death overs working for Westt Indies so far. Even the likes of Dhoni and Raina aren't quite able to take him on.

Oh, Darren Sammy has put down a difficult chance from Dhoni.
The Indian skipper seems to have done himself some damage though while running. Will be a massive blow if it hampers his batting.

Dhoni's way of finishing the innings well is majorly dependent on his running between the wickets as much as it is about the big hits. If he is restricted in his movements, that strategy may not work out the way he would want it to.

But Raina goes soon after. So Roach finishes with a wicket, Raina edging behind for Ramdin to hold on. India 182-5. Ravindra Jadeja joins his skipper.

Dhoni is in a difficult position here, if he goes for all big shots he might just get out and that might create serious trouble for the lower order, but he can't run those quick singles any more. Best here is having the better of Jadeja so far, Jadeja not being able to adjust to the pace here.

Ravichandran Ashwin joining Jadeja. These 2 will have to carry the bowling today, but before that, they have to somehow push the total towards respectability.

Good finish from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A 6 and 4 to finish off the innings. Narine went for 17 of that last over, and India have finished with 229. Get gayle early, don't let Samuels in for long. Field well, bowl well, they have a small chance here.

I say we have more thna a small chance
we have atleast 50% chance of winning here diluted only if Dhoni doesn't come on field and we are captained by Raina / kohli

Dhoni had an injury and was crippled and limping on one leg since runners are not allowed.

I dunno the extent of injury....but there is a chnace he might not come on field in whihc case our ability to defend small total deterioates

After 3 early wickets including the big ones of Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels for only 26, it looked like India would be able to make a match of this. But Darren Bravo and Johnson Chrles have other ideas and they have taken the attack to the Indians. The Inian bowlers haven't been able to keep the runs down, and West Indies are running away with it easily. They are 141-3 after 27.

West Indies 176-6. Charles still going strong on 84, and Darren Sammy is with him on 11. The run rate isn't an issue oor the West Indies, they need 54 of 92 balls. India need wickets, West Indies need these 2 to finish the job.

Has sammy done too much damage already ?
spinners have 4 overs...bowl them in a row..and then try Raina.
it's slower bowles who could do some magic here

well karthik misses a stumping that dhoni wouldn't have...gives 4 runs and probably slips the game for India.

This is why Karthik could never established himself inspite of being a good batsman...pretty much every game he drops one
