Hand grinding a wedge
It's about time to replace my 58 degree wedge and rather than just going out and getting a direct replacement for my vokey I'm thinking of one of the various hand grinding options that a few fitters provide these days.
Has anyone been for one of these fittings for a Miura or a Vega wedge at all? And has it worked for you?

Re: Hand grinding a wedge
LJ, I had one made up last year by my bloke. It's a KZG TRS
http://www.kzgolf.com/sites/courses/layout9.asp?id=588&page=35751&sid=1018
The one I have is slightly different from the ones shown in the link, as it had the grind done here, and not finished as per norm, to ensure it rusts up. It's a pain in the bum keeping the thing looking good (Except the face) but it spins well and sticks to greens. In some respects its too good for me as i can end up under the hole a lot, where a better player would get the distance and stop it close.
A mate of mine is a big fan of Scratch wedges, expensive but fantastic results and you know the quality is there.

The guy I was looking at does the KZG stuff as well... Although I'm not overly keen on those for some reason. I would guess that they have to be unfinished for a hand grind anyway so rust is always going to happen.
What sort of cost was it for the fit, grind and finished article all together?
And where does you mate go for his scratch golf stuff?

You can do it on-line and deal direct, which ensures Don White does the grind for you and you just select the shaft etc. Or do it like my mate at Urban Golf London, where they also do Muira etc

My KZG was c£140 and a big tweak to take it from 52 to 53 degree to fill a gap.

I'm a bit dubious about doing something like this on a simulator. I'd prefer to go to somewhere that actually allows me to hit the thing on turf and from real bunkers.
I'm considering my guy at the Grove and the one at Hylands at the moment.

Please try to stay on topic. This sort of misreading of a serious thread is clearly not on.

Pure Forged Golf are really the only place in the UK where you can get them, and they're the only people in the UK who get them. I believe Urban get there's from PFG in Scotland. The bloke at Hylands should be able to get his hands on one though I would have thought.
http://www.pureforged.co.uk/wedges-13-c.asp some real belters on here and my guy near the Belfry does Vega and he says they give him the horn

I would totally avoid simulators when it comes to any fitting it does not give true representation. The grove is great LJ had a fitting there some time back, was only going along for day with my old man and ended up with a couple new bits myself.

I didn't really pay enough attention to it but I thought I saw an offer at Hylands for something mad like 3 KGZ wedges for £160. Don't shoot me if I misread it or it's finished!

Re: Hand grinding a wedge
Mave the guy at the Grove (Jon) does my shafts for me and he is top drawer. Although quite expensive (even if I did get a discount last time round on the driver switch).
He's got all the gear there so the chances are that's where I'll be off to. Unless the guy at Hylands comes up with the goods.
SJ. That sounds a very cheap deal... Worth checking out methinks.

Damnit - heaven forbid there would be people around here who objected to a little banter
