One Hit Wonder Day
It's the 25th of September, which means it's one hit wonder day.
There have been some cack, but along with a few decent songs. So, what's your favourite?
Hey Matthew - Karel Fialka?
99 Red balloons - Nena?

Tainted Love by Soft Cell and Eye of the Tiger by Survivor along with the already-mentioned 99 Red Balloons.

Soft Cell weren't one hit wonders, they had a number of songs and albums in the charts, just none as big as Tainted Love. Good song though!
Mike Flowers Pop's version of Wonderwall is brilliant.

Went onto Wikipedia to prove you wrong and it seems there might be some truth in what you say, namely their 4 other top 10 hits.Enforcer wrote:Soft Cell weren't one hit wonders, they had a number of songs and albums in the charts, just none as big as Tainted Love. Good song though!

Ooooh so many to choose from.
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
Hale & Pace - The Stonk
MARRS - Pump Up The Volume
Zager & Evans - In The Year 2525
B Bumble & The Stingers - Nut Rocker
But, my personal favourites are 'Mad World' by Michael Andrews & Gary Jules and 'Turtle Power' by Partners In Kryme

The Buggles - Radio Killed The Radio Star
I noticed Dexy's Midnight Runners' Come On Eileen was on VH1's list but they had a hit with Geno.
Mad World. Good call Womble.

Geno is a good song, better than Eileen. Plus, it was a number 1 hit. They also had that hit Jackie Wilson Said, the Van Morrison cover so I certainly wouldn't call them one hit wonders.Stella wrote:The Buggles - Radio Killed The Radio Star

I remember Mad World being Christmas number 1, it kept that Christmas song by The Darkness off the top spot.

Don't put the peerless Dexy's in with the likes of Zager and Evans and bleeding Hale and Pace. Believe Can You Dig it was the only hit the mock turtles had, as far as one hit wonder songs go that was not a bad one

Someone mentioned Eye of the Tiger but Survivor also did Burning Heart from the Rocky IV soundtrack.
Not sure if it was a hit but plenty of people know it!

FFS, people, I mention a total of two one hit wonders then get told that neither of them are, in fact, one hit wonders.
What about Tubthumping by Chumbawumba, is that a ohw or did it reach no 7 in Latvia?

You're right Womble it is quality, was going to put the Crazy World of Arthur Brown forward with Fire as well but I also love that.

Yes, Fire is a good tune. I still shout the opening line whenever someone mentions starting a fire.Rowley wrote:You're right Womble it is quality, was going to put the Crazy World of Arthur Brown forward with Fire as well but I also love that.

Fastball - The Way
I'd forgotten about it until recently reading the inspiration behind it, which makes it actually quite a meaningful song.

wiki wrote:Fastball bassist Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading journalistic articles which described the disappearance of an older married couple, Lela and Raymond Howard from Salado, Texas, who left home in June 1997 to attend the Pioneer Day festival at nearby Temple, Texas, despite Lela's Alzheimers and Raymond recently coming from brain surgery. They were discovered two weeks later, dead, at the bottom of a ravine near Hot Springs, Arkansas, hundreds of miles off their intended route.[3][4]
About the song, Scalzo said that "It's a romanticized take on what happened" - he "pictured them taking off to have fun, like they did when they first met."

Anyone remember The Bravery?
They had that song, An Honest Mistake, and everyone thought they could be the new Strokes. They weren't. Song's a good un though, still have it on spotify.
Semi shout out to Wheatus for Teenage Dirtbag too. I know they had moderate success covering A Little Respect, but I only count original pieces.

I did wiki them and apparently they had a couple of other songs that did averagely but I've never heard them so they don't count.

The song with the girl in it who sang Murder on the Dancefloor. Had a big tall DJ walking around somewhere in the Far-East. Can't remember her name, the DJ's name or the song, but it was a one hit wonder.
