The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title.
The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
I said it would be Monday morning and, like my milkman, I always deliver. So here is round 6 of quite possibly the most exciting tournament ever. Before we move on to round 6 and the poll for 'The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title' lets have a look at what you could have won in round 5.
Round 5 saw the poll for 'Best piece of literature with a name in the title' and threw up some classic works of literature and no small measure of controversy with the 'missing' and 'reappearing' votes scandal throwing the integrity of the whole competition into doubt. With the mystery still unsolved and the 'missing' votes no closer to being found, I have made the decision to move on, forget the past and continue the competition. At least I am a man of extremely high integrity and moral fibre so we can proceed safe in the knowledge that the Culture Cup is still on the level. I have my finest man (Wingrove) on the case to try and find out what happened but until then, lets move forward in peace.
Round 5 was an interesting one with the votes being split across the board resulting in many posters claiming a decent points haul. Using my complicated results algorithm, you would have only needed to get 1 vote in this round to get 7 points. Sot its bad luck to Union who received no votes, no points and has subsequently seen his already slim chance of winning almost certainly disappear for good. What makes it worse it that he had some votes before 'votegate'. Life can be so cruel. Hero continues to be Mr Consistent and remains on top of the Christmas tree, just as a fairy should be. Julius had a stunning reversal in fortune with his pick of Macbeth claiming top spot for this round. A fair few posters picked up 10 points and at the half way point, the league is still within grasp for a fair few posters. Here are the runners and riders;
Hero (A Streetcar Named Desire): (10) 46
compelling & rich (Schindler's List): (9): 42
seanmichaels (Oliver Twist): (9) 38
Adam (A Christmas Carol): (10) 37
Azzy (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes): (10) 33
onlytreblewinners (Frankenstein): (10) 32
TopHat (Romeo and Juliet): (10) 32
Galted (The World According to Garp): (7) 30
The Womble (Matilda): (10) 31
Rowley (The Picture of Dorian Grey): (10) 29
superflyweight (The Great Gatsby): (9) 29
Dolphin (Winnie the Pooh): (9) 26
The Boss (Gulliver's Travels): (10) 26
bhb (Hamlet): (7) 25
ChequeredJersey (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn): (8) 24
jbeadlesbigrighthand (Count of Monte Cristo): (8) 23
Julius ( Macbeth): (12) 22
Union (Horace) (0) 19
Round 7 is back to films and the question is this:Name the greatest film actor or actress born in the same year as you Best film originally released in the decade of your birth. You can, of course, lie if you want to but I doubt any of you are that precious. I will leave it up to your conscience but please PM a couple of choices.
Here is the poll for round 6 and remember, it is open for the whole forum to vote!
PLEASE ONLY VOTE FOR 2 NOMINATIONS I don't think it will survive another voting scandal.

Well I had lasagne for my tea tonight. Homemade. By me. It was nice.
God I'm bored... early night I think. I might read a book. At least then I'll be able to contribute to the 'What Are You Currently Reading?' thread. What to pick though?

Went caribbean curry and red stripe last night in the end. It was a bit of a nightmare with the red stripe as the anaesthetic seemed particularly strong for my bottom teeth and I kept gagging as I was inadvertently overfilling my mouth. Good curry though and made enough poudre de colombo spice mix to be used over and again.

You should do a daily Youtube comedy drinking clip. I went out for Thanksgiving dinner, underestimated how rich pumpkin pie is and battled a lot to not vomit on the walk back to London Bridge.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I went out for dinner last night. Covent Garden was beautiful last night. Full of festive cheer.
I had a posh scotch egg for starters that was fantastic. Crispy on the outside and the egg was still hot and runny on the inside. How do they do that?
Had a fillet steak cooked rare for main. Very well cooked and the chips were to die for.
Banana split for dessert. Disappointing. Could have had it in a Little Chef and you wouldn't have noticed the difference.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Went round the mates last night so could not be bothered to make anything by the time I got in, so had a crisps sandwich. Wotsits in case any of you were wondering. Am bleeding hungry now though (please note the use of the word hungry not starving, which is not only inaccurate but also a bit offensive. Does not annoy me as much as people who misuse the word literally though.)

I never retire before midnight. Last night was a bit of a late one as I was waiting for the PS4 to become available online. John Lewis had it just after midnight, added it to my basket, but by the time I'd entered my card details it was out of stock. Managed to order one on the Tesco site at about 1:20 - should get it tomorrow. It's not for me, in case anyone's wondering - Xmas present for my son.

Me neither. I am a night owl and feel like I am missing out on life if I go to bed too early. Problem is, I think I have only had about 15 uninterrupted nights sleep in the last decade so I am permanently tired and grumpy as I have to get up about 5:00 in the morning.JuliusHMarx wrote:I never retire before midnight.
I often get distracted by things on youtube and find the hours have disappeared. Insect fights, insect documentaries, top 10 videos of venomous spiders, porn. The usual things.

I usually drop off at some stage during the news at 10 depending on how much I've had. I barely get past the headlines if I've moved on to red.
My issue is staying asleep, weekends I'm up at 6/7am. Feel like I'm missing out lying in bed all morning

At Uni if ever anybody brought a chick back we'd tell the lucky housemate 'when you're doing her, think of our faces'. Honestly it was a killer. It could have been Weiss or Ryder in the sack and all you'd be able to picture was the smug faces of the housemates.

You shouldn't dismiss it so readily, Galted. You know who has a house in the next village. I could show you where it is and you could break in and wear one of her thongs whilst using Daniel's toothbrush.

This weekend I removed the hood from my Jack Wolfskin 3-in-1 as it wasn't raining that much, effectively making it a 2-in-1. Weiss made a huge fuss over me as she was absolutely convinced that I'd bought myself a new coat. She never was the sharpest pencil in the box.

I have a smoothie with me this morning, Galted. Mango and passion fruit, Innocent smoothie. The wife apparently bought a load over the weekend as they have just appeared in the fridge. I borrowed one this morning but haven't tried it yet. I will report back later.

Damn you, Tino, damn you to hell!Mind the windows Tino. wrote:You've never met Wladimir Weiss.
I'm familiar with the mango and passion fruit smoothie, not bad though far from my favourite. I normally alternate between the acai and the strawberry and banana, there's a coconut and pineapple which I have occasionally even though I hate pineapples and coconuts. Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful new chapter in your life.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:I have a smoothie with me this morning, Galted. Mango and passion fruit, Innocent smoothie. Smoothies are prohibitively overpriced in my opinion, £3 gets you a 4 pack cider of a 3 litre bottle with change left over. I just can't justify it.
A while back I made my old man 3 litres of carrot juice. That was good but the kitchen looked like someone had put a stick of dynamite up David Dickinson's backside afterwards.

Done. It was alright. Little sweet for my liking and I can't see it replacing black coffee as my drink of choice but it was perfectly pleasant. I was expecting a rush of energy and goodwill as the fruit coursed through my body but nothing really happened. Perhaps my expectations were too great.Galted wrote:Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful new chapter in your life.
I actually thought of you over the weekend, Galted, although not in a massively gay way.
I was having a relaxing cup of coffee with the family on Saturday when a lady came in to the coffee shop. She was on her own and carrying a rucksack. Nothing remarkable about that but the straps on her rucksack were attached to the front of her coat with press studs. It was fascinating stuff. I wish I had asked her all the questions I now have in my mind but I didn't want to interrupt her coffee. Did she buy them together? Did she buy the coat separately with the intention of finding a compatible rucksack? Has she ever met Galted? All these unanswered questions. Remarkable piece of kit though although perhaps dangerous if she fell into a fast running river with the rucksack attached?
She also had a Gore-Texish coat on and very practical hiking shoes. I should have got her number for you.
