Post by Afro Wed 09 Oct 2013, 3:33 pm

Let's get the media page up and running, but with a change.

Everyone who wants to post a question can, and we can go on to answers from there

This week's questions are:

If you had to have a glass of wine after a match with an opposing pretend manager, who would you want to share it with?

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?

Who is the most overpriced player on the TM value website?

Should Azzy have sold Pirlo?

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?

My question is:

Which summer transfers have been the biggest success and biggest flop, in terms of value for money, in the Premier League this season? *

I'm tempted to say everyone gets £1m of Olly's budget when he mentioned Leroy Fer

Horrendous. I'm jumping the gun perhaps but they'd have to be mega attractive for me to be happy with going in there.

Nothing wrong with a turning wicket Olly. It can produce cricket just as fascinating as a bouncy strip.

Brilliant, the opportunity for everyone to say I look like Alan flipping Carr! My fave thing in the world ever!
The other week when I was out in Bimingham with Adam, Enforcer and Gav a group of about 10-15 men suddenly shouted out across the street 'Look there's Alan Carr!' And then I had to have my picture taken with them, and one of them wanted a picture of his arse which had a tattoo of his mates mum next to my face.
I hate Alan Carr.

Used to be Yann M'Vila, now I think it's tied between Marco Verratti and Andrea Pirlo. The impact they make in real life games is far less compared to the impact they make in this league. Therefore overrated.

Fernandinho has been good but not good enough for £28m. Mathieu Flamini for Arsenal on a free is best value for money so far.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)
Without blowing my own trumpet, Francesco Totti for £875k. Mainly because he's on such good form in real life.

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?
On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?
Answering these together. Cleverley isn't very good and he isn't bad. He's a decent midfielder but he's not good enough to be a regular for England and Manchester United.

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?
No, because I'm married.

Which summer transfers have been the biggest success and biggest flop, in terms of value for money, in the Premier League this season?
Flops: Wilfried Bony, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Andre Schurrle, Jesus Navas and Fernandinho.
Successes: Morgan Amalfitano, Stephane Sessegnon, Loic Remy and Dejan Lovren.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)
Saido Berahino, the kid is the Burundi Pele. And for myself, Stefano Denswil from releases for £175k. The kid is a stalwart at the heart of the Ajax defence, is the CB heart for the Dutch U21s, and just scored against AC Milan in the Champions League. There is a sizeable TM increase coming someone's way Media Page 3559488474

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?
He is Bryan Gunn, playing CM, right now, bad.

On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?
He is kick in the nuts, while being set on fire, while being water boarded, good.

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?
No. My wife wouldn't approve.

Who is the most handsome manager in this league and you can't vote for yourself?
It can only be one person - the Teflon Don.

Who is the most overrated player in these games compared to real life form?
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Jesus Navas. I can't separate them.

If Uncle Fan came back to the league tomorrow, who would be his first signing?
Possibly this kid: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/luciano-javier-diaz-araya/profil/spieler_264830.html

Flamini has been superb and on a free. Navas has, apart from a couple of moments, been a completel waste of money.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)
Bakkali, Halilovic and Totti all spring to mind, but Totti for impact versus value.

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?
He's not on that scale. He is way above that scale. Whether or not he deserves to play for England and even Man Utd, is irrelevant, as he is still better than both those two

On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?
He's not on that scale. He is way below scale. Whether or not he deserves to play for England and even Man Utd, is irrelevant, as he is still a lot worse than both those two

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?
It's a date right. You not talking bumping uglies? If he/she paid, I'd do it.

Who is the most handsome manager in this league and you can't vote for yourself?
Clearly Azzy. That gentle picture of him of Facebook in a Baggies shirt and face painted in the Belgian flag warmed my heart.

Who is the most overrated player in these games compared to real life form?
Well Navas again tbh. He's just a nice eyed Aaron Lennon. But also the usual suspects of De Rossi, Chiellini etc. Those that were world class three years ago, but not anymore, but still carry that level of rating.

If Uncle Fan came back to the league tomorrow, who would be his first signing?
I'd have thought Jordy Clasie and Adam Maher would be high on his list, but I'll go Max Kruse

Which summer transfers have been the biggest success and biggest flop, in terms of value for money, in the Premier League this season?

Biggest success: Amalfitano for the Tescos, really liking him.
Biggest flop: Eto'o.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)

I was glad to get Bakkali when I did especially as he wasn't on the PSV original teamsheet for the season, Totti is always a steal but I'm plumping for my new accusition of Durm that's getting starts for Dortmund currently.

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?

He's a Johnson certainly.

On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?

If you anagram Xavi & Andres Iniesta you get 'A Drain Naive Sexist', he's about that good.

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?

If she was ginger I'd give it a go.

Have to go with the flow on this and say Navas.

Which summer transfers have been the biggest success and biggest flop, in terms of value for money, in the Premier League this season?

Best value is subjective. I like the way Schurrle plays and I think he's a real Mourinho player. Add a few goals in and then he's a star.

Flopping...RVW has been poor. I don't think there is a flat out stinker yet though.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)

Totti probably. I think I bid for him and Di Natale to try and form a supreme old man strikeforce but I missed both.

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?
On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?

I'm answering these together. Honest opinion of Clevs is that he is a decent player, decent CM that doesn't do too much wrong. He lacks a killer ball, his shooting is wayward, and he won't single handedly dominate a game. In a good team he is a useful part. Think Darren Fletcher but when he isn't crapping himself.

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?

I answered no initially. I stick by that unless they are a) stunning, b) formerly Azzy Mahmood.

Who is the most handsome manager in this league and you can't vote for yourself?

Viva is a handsome man. Especially with that tattoo on his face.

Who is the most overrated player in these games compared to real life form?

My favourite ever was Milos Krasic. He was rated so highly and now I honestly couldn't tell you where he plays.

If Uncle Fan came back to the league tomorrow, who would be his first signing?.

He's Scottish, so he'd be signing on the dole.

This week's questions are:

Which summer transfers have been the biggest success and biggest flop, in terms of value for money, in the Premier League this season?

Without wishing to rain on the parade, it's far far too early to be judging on this. Players who have come in and gone off with a bang, might not sustain it, and plays like Bony/RVW who haven't hit expectations are clearly still adapting and gelling with their sides.

Best 'bargain' basement signings of the season so far? (ie those under 1m? and in this league)

Totti. What a player. What a man. What a signing.

On a scale of Bradley Johnson to Andrew Surman, just how bad is Tom Cleverley?
On a scale of Xavi to Andres Iniesta, how good is Tom Cleverley?

He's awful. I genuinely wouldn't want him at Norwich, don't think he'd improve our midfield. I weep when I see his name on the starting sheet for England.

Would you date a girl that used to be a man but is now a really pretty girl with working bits and everything?

I'm 18. It's obviously a yes.

Who is the most overrated player in these games compared to real life form?

Never got the love for Soldado, and he just seems to be a rather expensive Jermain Defoe to me.

If Uncle Fan came back to the league tomorrow, who would be his first signing?

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?

This week's pre-match press conferences are officially started.

If you had to have a glass of wine after a match with an opposing pretend manager, who would you want to share it with?

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?

Tough one. I have known Viva and Zidane the longest, but not sure I would get the gangsta talk. Soddy seems to have a similar love of music, so I would go with him

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?

For me the best two starting XIs is joint between Southampton and Ajax. But Marky started with a worse team, and he has worked wonders there. For me, he is the clear Manager of the Season.

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?

I don’t mind paying a bit more if I think the player brings more value to my team than just his pure TM value. I would prefer the right player at the right price. Where he comes from, or his actual TM value is less important.

Who is the most overpriced player on the TM value website?

Pique – he is a good player in a great side. He is nowhere near a £30m+ player for me

Should Azzy have sold Pirlo?

Definitely. In Serie A, teams appear to have worked out a way to stop Pirlo’s influence this season and he is no longer mobile enough to change the way he plays. His impact for Juve has dropped and my rating of him has dropped similarly.

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?

If you get a lot of offers for a player, then that player is clearly rated. Do not sell anyone until you have played at least one game and got feedback. You result is determined by the opinion of others, so what you think of a player is irrelevant, what others think isn’t.

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?

Daniel Sturridge. I had my eye on him and was ready to start building the cash, but Azzy signed him before I could really get going.

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?

In the past, I reckon I was the first (or one of the first) to sign/use Marquinhos, Verratti, Draxler, Kroos, Maher, Fischer, Nastasic and Barkley off the top of my head. Out of those, Marquinhos and Draxler have rocketed the most from the price I paid.

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?

I would dress up as CF. I really want to see what his view of the world is, because it seems to be completely different to anyone elses. Plus when I join a league, it will scare more managers tan any other costume

Well firstly we wouldn't be drinking wine, we'd be drinking JD or Vodka. Hero is an interesting character.

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?

Afro has a very strong side and I don't see many weaknesses when they're at full strength.

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?

If a player is worth the money you'll spend on him regardless if you're buying him in the league or out.  I'd say there's a better chance of picking up a better player for a better price outside the league.

Who is the most overpriced player on the TM value website?

I know Courtis is valued at £22m which is outrageous.

Should Azzy have sold Pirlo?

Azzy shouldn't have sold his Mega Drive for a gram of methods.

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?

You must have a sense of humor and be able to take it,  always do your homework and find out how the majority rate players before you do any deals.

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?

I know Pogba shot up in value and he is a player that would have improved my side massively then again so would Leon Osman.

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?

There's quite alot of players,  Hernandez, Ozil,  Isco,  Lucas,  Gotze, Jones are just a few name but that's all in the past what matters is who I sign now.

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?

My costume would be a white printed T-Shirt of maybe a musician or a city, straight cut Blue Levis jeans, a pair of grey or white Adidas trainers and if it's a bit cold a dark blue ink leather jacket.  OH WAIT I JUST DESCRIBED MYSELF BECAUSE ID COME AS MYSELF WHY SHALL I BE AN IMPOSTER WHEN I CAN VE THE ORIGINAL VIVA HAS NO TIME FOR FAKES.

I've known Marky probably the longest so I'd have to say him, I'd happily go for a drink with anyone though.

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?

Afro although I reckon Sod and Z have decent teams.

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?

In league, it keeps the league alive more.

Who is the most overpriced player on the TM value website?

Hulk, approaching 40m.

Should Azzy have sold Pirlo?

No, he may not be having the best of seasons but there's very few playmakers in his class.

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?

Don't answer Viva/Nicks questions about lotion.

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?

Mangala, I ever had a chat with Afro where I stated he'd be going up in value by several million in the next few weeks, a week later he rose by 5.5m.

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?

Bernard and Bakkali in this league. Prior to that I've brought in Willian, Capoue, Kovacic, Reus, Koke, Martinez, Griezmann. The one I always recall though is Alba who I backed to take the Spain LB slot and was promptly shouted down by veterans Viva and Nick that he wouldn't make the Spain squad for years and would be 3rd choice at best.

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?

When you look like Alan Carr then usually it involves something that covers my face. The Mummy perhaps.

It wouldn't be sharing a bottle of wine, it'd be sharing 4 cans of lager. And it'd be with Nando so we could play Fifa at the same time.

On paper who do you think has the strongest opening eleven barring injuries?
The league doesn't lie. Between Ajax and Ballbag for me.

Would you rather buy a player in-league, for a fair price, or out of league, for a better price but less quality?
I'd want the better quality player so in-league for a fair price. The lesser quality player as Plan B.

Who is the most overpriced player on the TM value website?
Gareth Bale. Simples.

Should Azzy have sold Pirlo?
No. His ratings are far higher than any replacement could get. Luckily it's not his problem anymore.

What advice would you give to a new manager joining the league?
Dive in head first and make loads of changes. Make that team your own.

Who do you wish you had bought before the recent transfermarkt increases?
Halilovic for the increase rather than the player.

Who are you proudest at buying before they were the next big thing in these leagues?
Only one I can think of who went on to being a big thing is Lukaku. Had him in a previous form of this league and now he's the league's top scorer.

As we are approaching Halloween, if you are or had to dress in fancy dress what would your costume be?
Super Mario as it will be Media Page 3559488474 Although I have had the standard Luchador costume for years. Luchador mask, tracky bottoms, t-shirt and a vampire cape.
