surrey vs sussex sharks T20 blast
Surrey have named twelve a man squad for their opening NatWest T20 Blast South Division game against the Sussex Sharks at Hove this evening.
South African all rounder Robin Peterson comes straight into the squad after signing for the whole of the NatWest T20 Blast competition. Peterson has joined up with the squad and is available for this evening’s game.
Zafar Ansari is unavailable for this evening’s game due to the elbow injury he sustained in the Championship win against Gloucestershire and Gareth Batty is still recovering from his broken finger.
Aneesh Kapil is named in a T20 squad for the first time.
The Surrey squad to play the Sussex Sharks in the NatWest T20 Blast at the The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground on Friday 16th May:

Jade Dernbach
Matthew Dunn

Re: surrey vs sussex sharks T20 blast
Thanks as ever, JimBob.
Good spot and comment about Meaker. I did wonder if he might have a minor injury - he bowled on the outfield at the Oval on Monday lunchtime but only for a short time whilst others spent almost the entire break out there. There again, you would expect the club to mention any injury if that was the case as they have done for Ansari and Batty - so probably just a case of Meaker not making the cut. I mentioned last week that I didn't feel he was fully on fire.
Of the others practising, Mahmood looked to have slimmed down a bit. Batty was doing fine but his left (ie non bowling) hand was clearly strapped - guess he can't be risked yet.
Peterson seems a good recruit for t20 (with Ansari and Batty currently crocked and the Burger Van at Uni we have no other available slow bowlers) although it does seem we are trying to buy short term success in this format with him joining other
guns for hire (Mahmood, O'Brien). Very different approach to the County Championship where "patience" is the buzz word.
Hard to say who'll miss out tonight. Could be Clive as you suggest. Might be Kapil (he fielded very well as twelfth man on Monday). Might instead be Burns if we want several bowling options. I expect Curran to play - the poor lad is in the middle of exams, surely Surrey can't take him to Hove knowing that and then tell him he's not needed?!
Expect a difficult game tonight. Sussex have some fine players and are no mugs.

Good call about Dunn missing out, JimBob.
Piolet left out by the Sharks. I was looking forward to him misjudging his flight and crashing!
Smith gone to Yardy who always seems to bowl well against us ....

68/2 at the halfway mark.
Roy doing fine but we will need to up the rate. Hopefully O'Brien and Mahmood can come to the party ....

171/7 off 20. Half tons for Roy and Wilson plus a more than useful 23 off 12 from Mahhmood. 3 wickets for Zaidi but the standout bowler for me was Yardy - just 19 off his 4 overs plus the wicket of Smith.
Going to be close. Important we don't let Wright get away ....

What a nail biter! surrey should have won it, given their position at the start of the last over, but as much as it pains me to say it, well done Sussex

Was there last night and what a game
Superb banter with the surrey fans and so tense. Perfect first t20 game of the season

Re: surrey vs sussex sharks T20 blast

What a win, when we hit the 4 at the end we celebrated like we scored a football goal!
Surrey never should of lost that game, when Jordan got out that was that. But Ben Brown hit the 6 and then a single. Arraft on his return to Hove, after bowling superbly, hits a 4 and then edges one for 4 and the County ground exploded!
No slide for Jade Dernbach this year

Also LOL at the Surrey fan who started to cry at the end!!!

Should never let Dernbach play again! How often has this happened for club and country? Absolutely hopeless.

Come on, he is a great death bowler, proved it time and again. For the team he plays for
