Fantasy Football 2014 Hints & Tips Empty Fantasy Football 2014 Hints & Tips

So I have three drafts this Sunday, it's all kicking off!

Who do we think are going to be the standout players, who are the hidden gems and who are the busts?

Had my first 14 team draft last Saturday, so I will use that as a starting point. Some of the players taken after round 12 that look like potential flyers...
Hillman - no guarantee Ball has the job as sewn up as ppl think. Plus potentially room for 2 RB's to be fantasy relevent in Denver
Grimes - 2 words. Foster. Injury.
Ladarius Green and Andrew Hawkins were good late picks, but I like the pick of Brandon LaFell in round 15 most - think he could be a huge Brady red-zone target.

and some of those taken in the top few rounds who may be busts....
No shocking looking picks in our draft, but Reggie Bush is someone I'm avoiding in all drafts - went 3rd round in ours which is far too high if Joique Bell ends up the more productive as expected. Unless you can get one of the top 4/5 RB's I think RB is worth avoiding in the first 2 rounds altogether.

Ellington at a current 3rd round ADP will be a Stud

As an aside - I took Josh Gordon in the 9th round, so waiting and desperately praying for a good result from his hearing

I'm in 13 leagues and counting. I've had a draft going on every day since July. Really like the MFL 10's at the moment. Done two so far and looking to make it a nice round 5 by the season start.

As far as general strategy goes, for redraft, I love waiting on TE and QB (10th-13th picks are 2QB's and 2 TE's) and going WR heavy early on. Drafting later in the 1st I can grab two of the top 6 WR's and end up with Andre Johnson as my WR3.

Players I often find myself drafting are

Julio Jones - will lead the league in receiving this year
Andre Johnson - will remain a WR1 until he retires
Michael Floyd - high upside with ability to make plays down the field
Terrance Williams - great offense with a terrible defense which means a lot of throwing
Rashad Jennings - Screw Andre Williams, Jennings is a 3 down bell cow
Toby Gerhart - Jags want to run the ball and he will get all the carries
Heath Miller - fully healthy and red zone monster

I can go on for days so I'll just stop.

I'd go Pierce week 1. Don't think Sankey is the starter yet? I'm starting Pierce in a couple leagues, hopefully be a close game so lots of rushes.

1 from Marqise Lee, Andre Caldwell, Rueben Randle.

1 from Pierce, MJD, Ridley, Lamar Miller.

That's a pretty dire choice but I'll take Rueben Randle. Caldwell isn't going to play enough snaps and Lee is only going to catch underneath routes IMO and doesn't have the TD upside like Randle does.

Ridley. Should be ahead early on and Ridley will run the game out, perhaps chipping in with a TD or two.

Yeah, I left WR late on in the draft + Welker got suspended + Shorts is out so that's my choices. *sigh*. Already up against Lynch in the matchup so might go with the one most likely to explode.

I agree with Pierce. He is more established with the Ravens and you don't know what the rookie will do yet. I do like Marqise Lee but ditto. Caldwell should see some good action with the Broncos with Wes Welker out though they could look to use Tamme more too. Randle should benefit from Nicks being gone and Beckham Jr not looking ready yet.

Pierce because I think you can guarantee a base line of points, whereas the ceiling is higher for Maclin but I fear Foles may start slow

Caldwell will be in a commitee (with Latimer and Tamme) for the 4th receiving option in a game where the Broncos may very well run out to an early lead. Caldwell is a definite non-starter IMO.

I started Pierce as well this week in a Flex spot. Subbed out Hopkins at the last minute, and had been toying with the idea of using Ertz. Still think it was the right call, but him fumbling lost me the matchup..

Deciding whether to start Cutler or Roethlisberger this week and I've just realised that decision is required tonight!

Any thoughts guys?

Cutler is @ San Francisco and Ben is @ Baltimore.

Cutler - he will be absolutely fine facing the 49ers secondary

Plus Thursday nights on a short week tend to be lower scoring, plus all games between these two (last 9 out of 10?) tend to finish with 3 points or less between them so Ben not likely to throw a ton.

Benched for a fumble - although wasn't very productive on his initial work. Forsett came in, looked better and was kept in for the rest of the game.

He could get the start and run with it tonight, or he could be behind Forsett & Taliaferro for carries... stay way clear until we see how things shake out this week!! I'm not dropping him, not yet anyway...

Benched last week for a fumble then runs for nearly 100 yards last night after most probably benched him.

Sproles.

They'll scheme him more touches and while Jackson is probably the Bills goalline back he probably won't get the yardage and you're relying on touchdowns from him.

Jennings plays for the Giants and they can't run the ball for sh!t right now. Which is a shame because I have Andre Williams.

I'd go Jennings. He's guaranteed volume of touches in both the run and passing game whereas in Philly they have a multitude of offensive weapons that could leave Sproles with 2-3 touches some weeks. The matchup is tasty, however, if you're swinging for the fences.
