Greatest Irish Sportsperson
First topic message reminder :
After Harrington's win in the Honda yesterday, Shane Lowry tweeted that he was "Ireland's greatest sportsperson ever. Full stop. End of." Do you agree?
It was talked about on Today FM this morning, some popular choices are Padraig Harrington, Brian O' Driscoll, Roy Keane, Sonia O' Sullivan, Henry Shefflin, Katie Taylor and Ronan O' Gara.
Who gets your vote?

So on the basis that no one agreed on a winner I will assume we all go for your man Kieren Fallon lol? My boy is named after him actually but that's more down to the other half than me.

Whatever you do, be careful when betting on Kieran Fallon to win it

Conor McGregor?
If he loses to Aldo he would have to be considered one of the biggest frauds in Irish sports history with all the mouthing he has done.

He's very entertaining and I hope he smashes Aldo but I would not be as confident as he is that he will beat Aldo.

So has Shane Lowry cemented a top 5 spot on this list with his achievements to date?! I feel he will be the Irish GOAT by the time his career is done.
Conor McGregor no longer a part of this conversation.

Why, has Ireland produced some more 2 weight UFC champions? If not he's still up there.
Lowry should be on the list now but he's only one of several recent major winners and still behind McIlroy and Harrington.
Katie Taylor is out there on her own now in my opinion.

Re: Greatest Irish Sportsperson
McGregor has since been dominated by Khabib, and matters outside the octagon are likely to badly tarnish his legacy. He is nowhere near as eligible a candidate as he was 3 years ago.rodders wrote:incontinentia wrote:So has Shane Lowry cemented a top 5 spot on this list with his achievements to date?! McGregor has been good for putting us Irish on the map. But being as I am neither a fan of MMA or his behaviour outside the octagon I don't think I would put him in my top 10.

Re: Greatest Irish Sportsperson
Yeah he has certainly gone downhill with his antics.
Also he hasn’t fought for a while.
Needs to be more consistent.
Where would sexton rank on peoples list?
Certainly one of the best fly halfs Ireland have produced.
Young players to look out for in the future.
Aaron Connelly and Jordan Larmour
