World T20
First topic message reminder :
The ICC have run some poor events in yesteryear but this is already taking the biscuit
No tickets on sale still, reports Delhi are pulling out as a host and Pakistan might not even be allowed to play. Oh and Australia have already announced their squad
But everything is "progressing smoothly" according to the latest ICC press release...

WI are looking the most motivated side in this world cup....
They are exuding the mindset of a salesman demo-ing his products in front of a bunch of clients with known bags full of money to spend.
bear in mind they are current U-19 world cup champs also

If SA can get 40 off their last 4 overs and get beyond 140, Olly might yet be ok!

They've got a score on the board at least Guildford - for a long time it looked like they could be 90 all out!

Yep, SA manage a score at least but only a feeble 8 runs off the final 2 overs. They end up with 122/8. Going to take a special SA performance in the field for that to be enough.

WI 70/3 off 12 overs. 53 more needed from 48 balls.
WI firm favourites but a couple more wickets soon would change that. Not over for Olly yet although tap water looks his most likely drink tonight ....

Re: World T20
Several scares towards the end for WI but ultimately they get home by 3 wickets as Olly's dosh goes down the plughole. At the start I thought Olly was on a winner but it seems the Windies are pretty strong and consistent in this format (even though no others).

Yes. Well played south Africa. 10 runs more and you would have won the game.
So windies will be paying India or Australia in the Semi.
NZ will pay England.
Looks like NZ will be in the final.
The other will be a toss up.
South Africa again not doing well in a world cup.
That 6 my Braithwaite won it.

Re: World T20
a wonderful format this keeping the tournament very interesting......
5 teams still on contention for 2 s.f spots....
it's counter intuitive that the format should be anything but as it is now...
but we have seen in the last two 50 over world-cups..... buck load of minnows and 75% dead-games and in the end 8 or 9 top teams( if youb inlcide BD) fighting for 8 q.f slots...made the tournament devoid of serious competitive scenarios in group stages.....and a lottery in the k.o stages

Re: World T20
The 50 over world cup should follow the same format. The reason why it is not; is to ensure India stays in the tournament.
This format makes every game an almost must win.

from the falling of Twin towers, to the invasion of Iraq to the killing of Osama to the planting of Obama in white-house....there is a conspiracy theory for everything in the world

why doesn't this "ensurance of India conspiracy " apply to the T20 world cup and the Champions Trophy

Re: World T20
Olly - I feel for you. This tournament has rinsed me of a fair bit of cash. I've given up on trying to make money from it!
Thanks for the great reply to my question on pitches the other day Guildford
Looking at KP fan's point about the tournament structure; every part of me believe the right thing to do for cricket is to encourage the associate nations and give them a platform to compete against the world's best. Logically it has to be what is best for the game. But looking at this tournament - you are absolutely right KP. The lack of dead, walkover games, and the scarce number of knockout round places available, has made for a terrific spectacle. Far better than last year's World Cup which felt unnecessarily long.
What do you do? Who would be an administrator?

Re: World T20
I think it's fine the tournament layout - but the pre qualifying thing was the thing which got people annoyed as he associates actually had their qualifying back in June last year - then had to go through it all again!
To be honest the whole structure of cricket makes no sense - why you'd have essentially a club of 10 teams restricting who plays who, who can and can't progress it's just beyond stupid. Like all other sports, having leagues, rankings or tournaments which allows teams to progress or fall is just common sense you'd have thought

I would give the associates a lot of bilateral tours......UAE, Oman and Afg to play a lot in India / Pak / lanka...
and Scot / Ire tour to Eng.......and let Aus and Nw of their tours to Eng have a stopover in Ire
and Zim, Kenya to play a lot with SA.
that's how the minnows get exposure....a lot of bilateral tours with the big-8....and the big sides needn't be fielding their best 11.......
could field their A sides.
or regional triangular series....involving Afg in an Ind-Lanka ODI series as the 3rd side for eg

today NZ play BD...first dead game of the tournament.
and SL vs Eng has a lot at stake for everyone.....
Eng appears better.....but these t20 games are too close to call, even when a BD or Afg is playing

Not that it matters, but this South African umpire shouldn't get another game, another poor decision.
Hope England don't get these pitches, depends so much on toss, bopara would have been a great choice
