The third round was completed and the first cut line fell at even par. Forty picks were at that mark or lower, the MDF cut line fell at one under and another five picks slammed their trunks and slunk out of the Monterey area of California. Super_Realist fared the best of the Fantasy Leaguers; all nine of his picks made the first cut and the full set of bonuses propelled him to the top of the leaderboard. "Six" Fantasy Leaguers have eight picks left, I say "six" because both Ray's final choices and castoff selections saw eight make it through. BobtheJob, Eyetoldyouso, LadyPutt, and Pedro also have eight picks left. Beninho, BlueCoverman, EmmDee57, McLaren, and SetupDetermines all have seven picks left; Beninho and EmmDee earned two cut bonuses. AlciG, Davie, GolferMartin, I'M Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, Owen10ozzy, SirBenson, and TheCleaver all have six picks left; Owen was the only one not to earn a cut bonus. Hibbz is left with just five picks left and 1GrumpyGolfer has just three; both earned a cut bonus.
Normally round three sees lots of points dished out for the Top 10 Low Round scores but the vagaries of this tournament meant it was only the top 5 that earned points. Jimmy Walker had the round of the day with a 63 and his nine under round was three shots better than anyone else. Rounds of five under were good enough to round out the top 5 and two other picks were among those scores. Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver picked Walker while SetupDetermines picked Phil Mickelson. Padraig Harrington was the other pick to score points and SirBenson had Harrington and Mickelson too.

The annual AT&T ham it up fest will take place in what seems to be wet, and miserable, California. The Pro-Am format means increasingly long rounds and cringing footage of celebrities hacking and yakking their way around three spectacular courses although don't hold out much hope of seeing courses not named Pebble Beach.
A strong field led by world number one, Jordan Spieth, and six others from the top ten join Brandt Snedeker who's the defending champion and aiming to be the sixth player to successfully defend the title. He would join the likes of Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Mark O'Meara, and Dustin Johnson if he manages it. Snedeker also won the title in 2013. Other former champions in the field include Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson, D.A. Points, Dustin Johnson, Vijay Singh, and Davis Love III. Mickelson and Love III have also won the event on multiple occasions.
Pebble Beach Golf Links are down as the hosts but the first three days of play is spread over three different courses; Pebble Beach, Monterey Peninsula, and Spyglass Hill. With that being the case the points scoring opportunities are amended to take into account the scoring differentials between the three courses. Points for Top 5 Low Round scores will be awarded in rounds two and three as the cut takes place after round three.
There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one. There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me. Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

With three courses and a delayed cut to consider some scoring differences to point out:
Points for Top 5 Low Round scores will be awarded in rounds one and two
Points for Top 10 Low Round scores will not be awarded in round three
Points for Top 5 Low Round scores will be awarded instead for round three

All the nauseating yukking makes this event pretty much unwatchable in my opinion so will probably be following my fortunes in written form only.

Re: Fantasy League 2016 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #05 - Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Grumps,
The official "cut" for Tour purposes is Top 70 and ties after 54 holes.
But only the Top 60 and ties get to contest Round 4, although those missing out as a consequence get paid "official money".
I assume the Fantasy League World Headquarters will credit a cut to the Top 70 . . . . . . ?

I had to check on what we did last year and saw you raised the same question. Those finishing in official money but not contesting round four will be considered MDF's and earn cut points unless they were picked by Eyetoldyouso; need to handicap him somehow...

Looks that way Kwini. I've updated the post and now it's down to Hibbz to add another pick or he's handicapped himself.

A.Prugh, R.Ruffels, A.Baddeley (H.Norlander)
Big week needed aftermy nightmare last time out. If Eyetoldyouso's picks, bar dj,sneds & bads of course, could all fail to make the cut that would help too.

Mac showing his usual "imagination" and "pundits knowledge" by picking just two players from 12 out of the top 4. Two groups with a routine 1-4. You have to wonder why he doesn't just pick once and the start of the season and save himself the time.

Re: Fantasy League 2016 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #05 - Pebble Beach Pro-Am
It would be1-4 in all the groups Super, but I think Mac doesn't like Day, Watson and Reed for some reason. I've noticed he doesn't pick Watson when ever be is in the top 4 - his Guardian morals must come into play. Can't think of a reason why he doesn't like Day or Reed.super_realist wrote:Mac showing his usual "imagination" and "pundits knowledge" by picking just two players from 12 out of the top 4. No doubt due to Mac's liberal agenda and preposterous statement that one person's opinions on something (i.e Mullet Watson) means everything else they do is irrelevant

If Hibbz doesn't pick an alternative from Cat B who hasn't teed off, then he'll have to have just two picks in Cat B. Just shows how important it is to pick a reserve.1GrumpyGolfer wrote:1GrumpyGolfer wrote:

Another event and another time Eyetoldyouso is at the top of the leaderboard but this time he's got company. Hibbz, SetupDetermines, and TheCleaver are level with Eye as they all had two picks in the Top 5 Low Round scores.
Rounds of six under or lower scored points so that could have been a 66 or a 65 depending upon the course played in the opening round. Six picks achieved this and Ricky Barnes was the most popular of the picks despite being cast off by Raycastleunited. The wonderfully named Bronson Burgoon was as equally popular as Justin Rose and J.B. Holmes. Roberto Castro was the next most popular and Freddie Jacobson had the love of one Fantasy Leaguer. Beninho, BobtheJob, EmmDee57, GolferMartin, LadyPutt, McLaren, Pedro, and Super_Realist all had one pick score points. The rest of the field is yet to get off the mark but with Top 5 Low Round points on offer for round two there's a good chance for them to do just that.

Hibbz, Romero is in.
No he isn't. Andres Romero was Cat C, he can't replace Matt every who withdrew from Cat B. Please pick someone else?
LadyPutt; may need a ruling
Sorry Grumps. Always hear soccer managers banging on about how hard it is playing against a team with a man down so I've put the theory to the test.

Sung Kang came from nowhere to the top of the leaderboard after his round of 60. Unsurprisingly it was the round of the day and it was by some margin too. McLaren was the only one to pick Kang and he has moved to the top of the Fantasy League leaderboard too.
Rounds of six under were needed to make the Top 5 Low Round scores and three picks were among the five players to shoot 65 or 66. LadyPutt had two of the three in Patrick Reed and Lucas Glover. Reid was also picked by BobtheJob, Davie, and was in Ray's castoffs. Glover was also picked by GolferMartin and Raycastleunited. Phil Mickelson was the other pick and he was selected by SetupDetermines and SirBenson.
With the cut falling after round three several picks are going to need to go low to have a chance of making the final round.
