Silly season transfer rumours III...
First topic message reminder :
Aaron Jarvis has signed for Clermont (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/ospreys-prop-jarvis-to-join-clermont/). The Osprey's signed Rhodri Jones as a replacement I guess.
Steve Shingler (of is he eligible for Scotland or not fame) has gone to the Blues. Straight swap of Shingler for Patchell. Hope Cardiff are paying less as Scarlets got the better player (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/shingler-swaps-scarlets-for-blues/)

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
I suspect half of the AP would happily offer Jackson a contract. It would be a good option for both Jackson and Sale if he were to move there. His style would suit Sale and it would situate him closer to Scotland.
If he was available of expect Glaws, Worcester and Quins to all be interested given his early season form.

Jackson is a very good player, not very old, has lots of test experience but will probably be available year round unless Vern Cotter realizes he's twice as good as Duncan Weir. Jackson can also cover 10 and 15 to test standard.LondonTiger wrote:formerly known as Sam wrote:Fantastic signings for Sale. Kruger is a quality line out operator and when fit Longbottom is a solid scrummager. Diamond has done well to bring them in.
Still needs to find a starting ten though and that won't be easy.
Yeah, Joe Ford is poor. Perhaps Ruaridh Jackson as he looks to be surplus to requirements at Wasps
I would hope that Wasps will want to hold on to him.

Have heard Lamb is rumoured to Sale and Flood a long shot.
Edit: Glous need to release Morgan to Leicester, he is perfect for us comes with our ideal already injured package as well.

Connor O'Shea to be the new Italy head coach at the end of the season.
I knew he was leaving Quins, but that is one hell of a challenge.
Catt to be attack coach, probably not as good as their current one, they seem to be firing well in attack, defence, well that's another matter.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
George, not sure Jackson is quite that good at fullback. His lack of height and leap was exposed when he played there at Welford Rd. He looked good when he moved to ten and got to mix the distribution with his clever kicking game. Wasps have Cips and Gopperth ahead of him for next season, I doubt he'll be happy with that. Beale will arrive as well and offer another utility playmaker.
Lamb is not a starting quality AP fly half. Far too limited. Flood would be a good signing if he could be tempted back but I can't see any advantage for him in returning.

His natural position and training is at 10, but you're right - nobody with nearly 30 international caps and only 28 years old will be happy being third in the pecking order, assuming that Wasps management are making the same assessment as you.formerly known as Sam wrote:George, not sure Jackson is quite that good at fullback. For what it's worth, I think that Jackson is a far better and more rounded player than Gopperth and it's just a shame that he got injured just as he was hitting his straps.

Most of us, including Sam, would select Jackson ahead of Gopperth. However everything i have seen this season suggests Dai Young disagrees. Then we have the return of the prodigal son.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Agree completely LT I'd have Jackson in every time. Gopperth is playing well at the minute and seems to be Dai's preferred choice and you'd expect Cips to be straight in as first choice next season.
Jackson has show far too much this season to be watching from the stands. Given the talent Wasps are snapping up they're going to need to cut the wage budget a touch and releasing Jackson would help a little bit.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Will Evans want to put in all the painstaking rehab required to come back to full professional fitness after his leg break? He's already taken on coaching work and reduced his playing time.
Hard for Quins to move for a playmaker when they have no DOR in place.
Italy is a huge job. COS is going to need to build from the bottom up to make that country competitive on the international scene.

Amazed anyone would sign lamb again. Proven flaky player.
Was glad he left us at Gloucester.
Had some outstanding games but
More poor ones than good ones

I was wondering about that myself Sam.
A few seasons back Evans spoke out about going more part time with his playing to focus on the coaching a lot more, unfortunately with the state of his replacements he's never really got that chance as he's been needed. Perhaps this latest injury will reaffirm that wish.
Very hard for us to sign any one without a DoR. No idea where the club will go moving forward, how our style may change and what changes they may want to make to the squad.
Next season can probably be written off, after that though I expect us to go on a bit of a shopping spree.

What's the finance position at Quins. Are they able to go out and spend big ?

We were spending right up to the old cap, and are in profit (?) so I assume we could spend at least some more.

I'd offer you Crane and that would be as far as I'd go for Morgan. To be honest I don't think I'd really want us to recruit from Glaws at the minute, the squad us looking a bit indifferent.
Yappy I wouldn't be surprised if Evans used the reshuffle at Quins to move into coaching. With either Quins or Italy.

Rugby inside line have posted on Twitter that Jean-Marc Doussain, the former France half-back, is weighing up his options between Gloucester and Tigers.
From a Leicester perspective my first thought would be meh.

LI have to be favourites for the drop, but between them and Newcastle as Worcester are (almost) mathematically safe.
Bristol are already preparing for the play-offs - ensuring fitness and conditioning is right for May rather than worrying about April. There is no outstanding challenger this year so they should do it - but who knows.

Yeah squeaky bum time for us and Irish.
Both teams have been generally poor...but actually do have the ability to put in some cracking performances.
Certainly if we go down, there be a few decent players up for grabs.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
A shame to see Seb De Chaves leave Tigers but it's understandable that he wants more first XV rugby. He was excellent for us last year in an injury ravaged and often very poor side, with Slater, Fitz, Kitch and Barrow definitely ahead of him plus Mike Williams moved there in preference to him earlier in the season it isn't surprising he has decided to move on. Especially when the emergence of Kruis and Itoje probably means that Slater and/or Kitch are unlikely to be missing much for England duty.
LI have themselves an excellent signing there. I guess the fact that he's signed in the current situation means that he will stay with them for next season even if they go down.... If he has a get out clause then a very good Jeff second row pairing in Symons and De Chaves might be up for grabs!

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
There are a few rumours (but nowt more than rumour) that Ben Morgan has signed for Leicester.
Given his recent injuries and being dropped from the EPS it would make sense for him to fancy a change of scenery.
As a Tigers fan I'd want him to show a hell of a lot more than he usually does in a Gloucs shirt though. It's annoying enough as an England fan watching him meander around the field lazily for most the season then spring into life when nearing an international period. I reckon I'd have thrown something at my TV by now if I had to watch it as a Gloucs fan.

England Ben Morgan = Prob best 8 tigers have had since Corry
Glous Ben Morgan = Meh
Would save Glous alot of cap, i think he would suit Tigers style of pack more than Glous mind.
He needs to do something to save his international career as with Vunipola, Hughes and Beaumont he has no chance of breaking back into the squad without doing something.

Oh dear god, we released Waldrom because we couldn't carry hum in defence, I don't want the English equivalent. We have big powerful forwards and we're getting nowhere. What we need is more mobile options that are useful in attack and defence. McCaffery being a revelation should have suggested to the coaches what direction they should be looking in.

That was because he had Croft.
a back row of
6) Williams
7) O'Connor
8) Morgan
looks far more balance than
6) Croft
7) Salvi
8) Waldrom
Ever did.
What tigers have missed this season in the pack is route one running and a forward that can score nearly everytime we enter the 5 M line of the opp Try line.
A tandem of him and Fonua would certainly provide that.
Our big powerful forward are not big powerful runners, Barrow, Williams, Fitzgerald, Cole, can tackle for 80mins but they can't carry.

What we've missed is the ability to either catch the ball 5m out or dot the thing down over the try line. We have Fonua and Crane for the heavy work and McCaffery and Thacker comfortably make more ball in hand.
I'd much rather a Mark Wilson or Jack Clifford arrive personally. A Dan Pryor or Elliott Dixon if we need go overseas.

He's 26 and uncapped (though tied to NZ) if he doesn't start feeling the AB love soon then he would, as you say, interest most of the AP and probably half of Europe. A few years over here to top up the bank balance could be hard to turn down. I think someone has been having fun in his Wiki page but if they haven't and he is a cheese fan then Leicestershire has a lot to offer him.
