Silly season transfer rumours III...
First topic message reminder :
Aaron Jarvis has signed for Clermont (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/ospreys-prop-jarvis-to-join-clermont/). The Osprey's signed Rhodri Jones as a replacement I guess.
Steve Shingler (of is he eligible for Scotland or not fame) has gone to the Blues. Straight swap of Shingler for Patchell. Hope Cardiff are paying less as Scarlets got the better player (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/shingler-swaps-scarlets-for-blues/)

Quins don't have that much money, but we could afford it and with Nev gone in this scenario, we'd have a marquee spot up for grabs

Apparently we had Cips all but signed last season but he got the yips when COS left and then even more so when it was rumoured we might pick Lancaster as coach

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
I am not sure how long NEv has on his contract - but I presume that he will gradually transition to a full coach, as he is already pretty much a player-coach at the moment.
As others have said, that will free up a marquee spot. But wont there be an additional marquee spot under the new contract anyway?
That being said - Cruden would be a good signing for pretty much any team. He can probably get more money at a French side but the counter to that is a very foreign playing environment.
The Prem clubs offer something different depending on where he would want to go.

Not sure if this is already in the thread but Aviva clubs are interested in Liam Williams.

I think that 'Cips Gets Yips' actually was the Sun headline.ChequeredJersey wrote:Apparently we had Cips all but signed last season but he got the yips when COS left and then even more so when it was rumoured we might pick Lancaster as coach

Yep Cips was about 90% Going to Quins last season with Wasps nowhere near the picture but he did a 180 as soon as COS announced he was leaving and Quins didn't have a real prime target.
100% confident on that.

Jantjes is very flaky, I'm not sure how he'd get on in the AP. In reality, he's back to 3rd choice when Lambie & Pollard are fit again.

Cruden would be a better signing than Jantjes.....although he is excellent for the Lions.

Bath also now rumored to be looking at Ben Tapuai from western force. With 3 centres out injured, no specialists fit and fruean not yet arrived, it looks like brew and banahan in the centres for glos. Ugh.

I kind of like Jantjes but agree don't think he'd fit into the Prem at all, just isn't pragmatic enough.

Greg Peterson (2nd row) is the sole American and Djustice Sears-Duru (loosehead) is the sole Canadian. Carlin Isles came over a for a bit of training back in 2014 I think and DTH VDM (Canadian centre/wing) was a fantastic player but they are both long gone.

Would that then be an Saili/Aki midfield for Munster? Isn't there NIQ rules?

Great for Munster, bloody awful for Connacht. There really doesn't seem like there was a long-term strategy in place there.

Except our clubs are annoyed if they become EQ where as the Pro 12 sign players in the hope that they will become qualified.
I would offer some defence in that we don't really have any "project" style players involved but Nathan Hughes will be capped this Autumn and he's about as English as Aki is Irish.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Got to feel bad for Connacht if true. They are having the heart of a successful squad ripped out. Lost Henshaw and Ah You last year, White to injury retirement and now Dillane/Aki. Wonder how long Buckley and Bealham are going to last before being given to Ulster/Leinster. If Kirchner is gone, what about O'Hallaron? Marmian is another one.

I suppose that's his two years done. Good time to return to NZ with the centre options open with the ABs and a couple of the franchises looking to sign centres as well. That or there's always the French Euro.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Quins and Sarries very tenuously linked to Liam Williams...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2016/09/30/rugby-digger---transfer-news-and-rumours-saracens-and-harlequins/
Basically he's delayed resigning with Scarlets, so might be looking else where, so could maybe go to a London club as his gf lives there. That's all.
Tbh Quins don't need him, at the moment Browns a better version of him and we have some good youngsters. Sarries will probably happily spend the cash, £300,000 is nothing to them, not even worth putting on the books...

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
If he's going to move to the premiership then 300K comes across as a little low. He could earn that here. If you want him you should probably up the figure, and it would be well spent.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Brown is a better version? Slightly debatable but he isn't getting any younger and none of the young Quins guys are storming through. Sarries I can't see being interested.
Bath and Tigers may well be interested given Homer is underwhelming and Tait is out of contract in the summer.
I think Williams is probably just stalling to get a better deal out if the Scarlets and the WRU.

I'd take Williams at a reasonable price- could start both him and Brown and rotate our back 3 some more as they all seem so injury prone

Williams and Cruden would somewhat cut down on your ability to sign any forwards though.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
TRP now linking us to Katrakilis of Montpellier, underwhelming to say the least, so a lot more believable then the Cruden rumour.
Idea is that with White being shown the door Montpellier will clear out a lot of their SA journeymen so we may nab him. He's 28 and average so I hope not.
On the plus side he's pretty physical and a good kicker so could do a job. Perhaps without the SA gameplan and influence he could blossom a bit.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
TRP also linking Tigers with Williams.
Seems like Agent bait.
Tigers need a 15 the most and where after him before so makes obvious Agent food.
Saracens big money club and in London but goode is huge for them and also have Maitland
Quins in London and do have money but have Brown still in contract and Morris coming up.
All three plausible Agent baits.
But would love him at Tigers with Young worth coming up as depht.
Not sold on Veainu @ 15 his kicking game needs huge amount of work on it.

I still think we should convert Burns to 15. He has everything needed to be an outstanding international 15 in the Murphy style.

Would not trust Burns one on one defence or TBH speed really (He is fast but he isn't Back 3 fast).
Apparently sounds like Williams would not be include in Gatlands law if he was to go for 300K or more as one of the clauses stats about the WRU offer being less than Market value it won't effect it. 300K is not very much for an international 15 IMO.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
I'd say Burns was significantly quicker than Tait is currently. OK he's not rapid but we've seen him sweeping behind, taking kicks and then stepping past players making plenty of ground. He's obviously not TV but I reckon he'd be fine especially in defence where most of the tackles are side on. If we sign Ford back a goal kicking 15 might also be a bonus.

ford ain't happening until his contract is at least over.
and Tais speed has been a major issue so it isn't like we are okay with it. (He was rapid but age and injuries catching up with him.

Rumours that Ben Smith is being linked to a move to Montpellier. Also speaking to English clubs.
