Fantastic result for Ireland, to beat the Baby Blacks after a 4 day turnaround. Best team for 3 quarters of the game.

Yikes that's a thumping score for Ireland, didn't expect much from them but boy I was wrong, and it's not often I'm wrong! And cheers lads, for giving NZ the motivation they need to give us a pumping Wink.

The Ireland loose head Andrew porter is a beast. Hopefully he'll get games at Leinster in the new season

MOTM was James Ryan the captain. Looks like he could be an Ireland second row in a few years

He's unlucky that there's 3 (if Healy ever recovers his form) very good players in front of him.

Well he looks the real deal, McGrath can scrum and Healy was a great ball carrier. Porter looks like he could do both just as well if he continues to develop

Now eng trying to do better against Scotland than back in the 6n where they got hammered. Scotland of course building on their victory over Aussie. It's a mountain to climb for the young England.

Currently 27-0 but a long long way to go.

It's be an upset if they manage after the year they've had and the Scotland defeat of Aussie midweek.

34-0 for England now. It's quite a surprise after the 6N for me. Aussie will be a different proposition now they're warm I'd guess.

Scotland massively overpowered and outgunned. They have defended bravely but that's about it.

I guess we should not be to surprised about that as we can really only compete with our strongest team out. I hope we can put a team together for Italy on Wednesday, it looks like we took a few casualties again. The 4 day turnarounds are pretty brutal.

Well done England, they look like they could go all the way.

Post by lostinwales Sat 11 Jun 2016, 9:41 pm

I was there this evening, and a lot of it was poor entertainment to be honest. Scotland had 2 kicks for goal in the first 5-10 minutes which they missed, and one kickable chance in the 2nd when they went for the corner. Their only effective attacking ploy seemed to be mauling from the lineout. They produced almost nothing else though had one short spell close to the England line which ended in yet another penalty (to England).

The scots were, as noted here, completely annihilated in the scrums in the first half. As far as memory serves they did get a couple of scrum penalties in the 2nd half when defending near their own line but early on I would not have been surprised if England had just started knocking on on purpose because it just end up being another penalty to them. It did mean that England went for scrum penalties rather than trying to move the ball from the scrum which probably didn't help the entertainment value (although it was fun to an extent).

So first half was mauling and kicking (and lead to both sons losing any interest). 2nd half more open but just one way

So from my limited viewpoint England front row hugely overpowered the Scots. England backs lively. Both wings good. Williams (12) very good indeed. Mallinder nailed his kicks, maybe tried the chip through too much. (1st attack he did so and no wonder try this time) didn't seem to do much more but does have huge presence.

Harry Randall (reserve scrum half) was fun to watch. Tiny compared to everyone else but moved the ball fast from the ruck every time and made I think one decent break too.

No complaints with Evans motm. Thought the rest of the backrow was anonymous but that maybe because they were just doing 'invisible' work. Mercer seemed to have more of an impact than Chick.

The ground is nice - and was fairly full. They said 5000 odd but I would guess that they lost some of the earlier spectators come evening. I know nothing of Wales Georgia but with a score of 10-9 I'd bet it was poor (probably had the worst of the rain too). One problem they seemed to have was that the roofs above the seating may be a bit low for Rugby. I saw 3 kicks go over the top. Son no.2 thought it was 6 total.

Well these Best Days don't come around often in the World - another one was that asteroid strike that got rid of those pesky dinosaurs for us. But ya gotta celebrate them when they come around, even if it's ye olde Engerlond doing a f**king trible.

True! A great day for both England and Ireland. OK Ale

Let's hope that next week it is a treble and Wales beat the All Blacks as well. It would be great to see the SH knocked off their perch.

OP updated.

Well done to Ireland - what a massive result.

Scotland rested half of their team so I am not too troubled by this. These are 18 year old kids, not seasoned professionals. If Scotland makes it to the next round it will be a huge boost for this young group and I am confident that they can do it. They will deserve it if they do.

Yeah, it's quite a tight schedule for young men and the aim is I think that coaches are forced to do that necessary rotation. At this level experience is premium for young guys trying to show what they have.

It is a pity Brophy-Clews is injured. Much as I think Mallinder has great potential, he is not a ten.

Much more settled looking Scotland side for the Italy game:

15. Blair Kinghorn (Edinburgh Rugby)

14. Robbie Nairn (Harlequins)

13. Tom Galbraith (Melrose)

12. Matt McPhillips (Currie)

11. Ben Robbins (Currie)

10. Adam Hastings (Bath Rugby)

9. Hugh Fraser (Heriot’s)

1. Murray McCallum (Heriot’s)

2. Jake Kerr (Boroughmuir)

3. Zander Fagerson (Glasgow Warriors)

4. Callum Hunter-Hill (Stirling County)

5. Scott Cummings CAPTAIN (Glasgow Warriors)

6. Jamie Ritchie (Edinburgh Rugby)

7. Matt Smith (Glasgow Hawks)

8. Ally Miller (Melrose)

16. Lewis Anderson (Ayr)

17. Dan Elkington (Melrose)

18. George Thornton (Bishop Burton College)

19. Alex Craig (Hartpury College)

20. Lewis Wynne (Stirling County)

21. Scott Burnside (Boroughmuir)

Come on, boys. Losing Graham and Hutchinson is not good but they have more than enough to win this.

James Ryan is out of Irelands squad for today with a hip injury and could miss their next game too, hopefully he's back could be a strong contender for World Player of the Year

Just let's not do an 'Irish' on this. That's all I'm hoping. Slay the big guys and then get pumped by a minnow.

Irish Seniors and Juniors now have the real work to do as in not turning a few good weeks into slush.
