SURREY VS ESSEX EAGLES ROYAL LONDON CUP
SURREY HAVE NAMED A FOURTEEN MAN SQUAD FOR THE ROYAL LONDON ONE DAY GAME AGAINST THE ESSEX EAGLES AT CHELMSFORD ON SUNDAY.
Tom and Sam Curran are both with the England Lions squad for the remaining two games of the Tri-Series against Sri Lanka A and Pakistan A
on sunday and monday.
Aaron Finch will make his 50 over debut for Surrey against the Essex Eagles. Jade Dernbach , Freddie Van den Bergh and Mark Footitt are all named in a Royal London One Day Cup squad for the first time this season. Gary Wilson is named in the squad after returning from Ireland’s recent One Day Series against Afghanistan but Zafar Ansari is unavailable for selection due to a back injury.
The Surrey squad to play the Essex Eagles at the Essex County Ground in the Royal London One Day Cup on Sunday 24th July:
Gareth Batty (capt)
James Burke
Rory Burns
Steven Davies
Jade Dernbach
Aaron Finch
Ben Foakes
Mark Footitt
Stuart Meaker
Mathew Pillans
Jason Roy
Dominic Sibley
Freddie van den Bergh
Gary Wilson
Really hard to call this one maybe Burger van,Wilson and Footitt to miss out fair play to anyone who gets the correct three,
Over to you chaps

Re: SURREY VS ESSEX EAGLES ROYAL LONDON CUP
Thanks, JimBob.
You could be right on the three to miss out. Maybe no way round it but there's not much bowling fat in 'your' team. Assuming Dernbach, Meaks and Batty bowl their full 10, you've still got to get 20 from a combo of Burke, Pillans and Sibley.
I'm still looking for a way to get Freddie a gig.

Yet again Batty wins the toss! This time we choose to bat.
Good effort by JimBob on the eleven but no cigar. Wilson, Burger Van and Burke miss out. On paper that strengthens the bowling with Footitt getting a rare outing with the white ball. However, tail looks a bit long - hope it's not needed!

Even more decent now with Roy taking 17 off the 13th over from Quinn - not exactly Mighty!
70/0 now off 13. Mind you we'll need a good score as Essex bat deep with Foster and Napier at 8 and 9.
Earlier old hand Masters (the Viscount always regarded him highly and I'm sure still does) went for just 15 from 5 on the reel. Proper bowling.

Very long tail, but the bowling would have looked a bit weak otherwise. Either way, a very good start from the opening batters.

Re: SURREY VS ESSEX EAGLES ROYAL LONDON CUP
137/2 at the halfway mark. That's ok but only if we don't fall away as we so often do in this sort of situation. A lot probably resting on Davies given Sibley & Burns will probably score a combined 60 off 100 balls!

Sibley now out for 15 off 23 balls. He was doing OK, giving the strike to Davies, but really need Davies, Burns and Foakes to score another 100 plus between them.

I'm sure that's what they're looking for. He has biffed a few in the seconds so not impossible.

183/3 off 32. From here, we should really be looking to top 300 but I just can't see it happening. Be delighted to be proved wrong!

Meanwhile, in the Lions game against Pakistan A, Sam Curran sees Billings to his century.

Pillans in at 7 didn't work disgraceful that we might not get 300

Excellent from Foakes at the end with the added pressure of being left with the tail that was a excellent innings

Pillans also proving expensive. Looks like the only way we are going to win this is if we take a couple more wickets quite quickly now.

Burke for Pillars would seem the obvious change. Certainly strengthens the batting and arguably the bowling too.

Re: SURREY VS ESSEX EAGLES ROYAL LONDON CUP
Looked for a while that Ryder was going to take the game away from us. Like JimBob, I was also worried what Foster and Napier might have in store. Anyway, a good win in the end.
Two very good white ball performances on the trot from Dernbach. Ably supported today on the bowling front by Meaker and Footitt. However, the Pillans/Finch/Sibley combo proved expensive even with a couple of wickets. Important and valuable that several of the middle order were for once just able to build on the decent start from the openers.

Well played Surrey. Excellent that Davies, Burns and Foakes were able to build on our solid start. And vital intervention from Dernbach when the match looked to be slipping away fast.
