Pakistan win the toss and elect to bat. Lots of team changes:

Pakistan In - Imad Wasim, Umar Gul, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Irfan.
Pakistan Out - Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah and Wahab Riaz.

England In - Bairstow, Jordan, Willey
England Out - Buttler (injured), Woakes and Wood (both rested)

Pakistan 161 - 5 after 36 overs. Looks likely to be a fairly ordinary score at this rate.  England bat all the way down to No 11 - Jordan, Plunkett or even Rashid could well be one of the best No 11s in a very long time...

247-8 IMO competitive score, but Pak will need to bowl well

247 is not a competitive score in ODIs anymore

England had to work much more this time, but even so won with 2 overs and 4 (good) wickets in hand.

Also proves they have some real depth in options now, especially with Broad working toward a return...and arent just reliant on Hales/Root/Buttler

At 72-4 Pakistan may have had a sniff. The Stokes/YJB partnership batted them out of the game and it was only because they took the foot off the gas that the win was secured so late.

I really want to enjoy these games, but right now Pakistan are not a good ODI side and are making it too easy for England with poor selections, ponderous batting and at times Keystone Cops fielding. I fear England are being made to look better than they are.

I'm not watching this match - but I see that commentator on cricinfo says Shoaib Malik "hurled into the pads" Shocked

Fortunate England had a brisk start as Stokes is taking a long time to get going.(8 off 24 balls)

You are not missing anything tbh - smidge under 6 an over and crowd are bored doing a listless mexican wave. After getting whacked Shoaib seemed to resort to round arm medium pacers - but no chucking.

England have made a bit of a mess of this last ten over rush...losing too many wickets. Nine gone now and they aren't going to get 300.

Think 290 should be enough anyway though...Pakistan have done well with the ball today but their batting in the earlier games doesn't suggest betting on them in this chase would be a safe option...

Good scrambling from Wood and Jordan ...and now a nice six , and...

300 after all clap

Should be ample.

Thankfully Pakistan reserved their best batting till the end, also capitalising on a weakened bowling lineup I guess.

Glad they got a win, would have been better for the spectacle if it had been an earlier game when the series was still alive.

It was a pretty short England team...Buttlker Rashid Ali Plunkett all could be considered first choice players.
Certainly Jordan and Dowson havent done themselves a lot of favours in demanding first team places, although Bairstow still continues to ask a the Morgan question. Both he and Buttler deserve a place in the side, but currently theres only space for one.
Im still happy with Englands limited overs progress and the depth of talent they now have to call on.

Dissapointing end to the series but its good to see Pakistan show some pride and fight, they looked tlike they wanted this one ...presumably after a roasting from Mickey Arthur and a reminder about their long term futures in his plans.

Great to see the Welsh lad doing well (153 not out on the series and 4 wickets), and Safraz has carried the batting for Pakistan. If they could get a team regularly applying itself in the format the bones are there.

Yes well done Pakistan - surprised me , I admit. They wanted it - and England were just a little "off".

Mind you , that is the risk you take when you quite obviously pick a team for which the primary purpose is not winning the game but developing players : it cannot but send a bit of a message to both sides ...not that I am bothered ; they need to have a pool of players ready with all the cricket played nowadays.
Unfortunately the recipients of somewhat gifted places didn't really take advantage , but never mind. Experience at least.

And as Gooseberry says , the team is making great progress. Let us hope they can continue that form in the winter tours.

Yes some promise there for Pakistan - I also liked to look of Babar and Nawaz alongside Wasim and Sarfraz as Goose mentions.

England really do seem to have the hang of the ODI stuff now. And when you consider the talent there is waiting in the wings not even in the squad (Duckett, Bell Drummond, Vince, Billings, the Currans, the Overtons - sure I'm missing some too...) we really could become a dominant side over the coming years.

The winter tours will be a really good test for this side. I for one, cannot wait to see the ODIs against India. They should be spectacular viewing

The last ODI was forgiveable with the B team playing, this much less so. It seems like England were the ones with an eye on the flights out to the sub continent rather than Pakistan.
Very poor end to a mixed summer. Great tour for Pakistan.

MY ODI SERIES RATINGS

JUST ODI'S NOT T20

ENGLAND

Jason Roy - 7 - 181 runs at 36
Alex Hales - 8 - 223 runs in the series, but only one big score, but what a score it was!
Joe Root - 10 - 274 runs at 54, 3 half centuires, and could well be skipper in Bangladesh if Morgan dosen't go
Eoin Morgan - 8 - 179 runs at 35, 2 half centuries and captained well
Ben Stokes - 9 - 201 runs in 4 innings at 50, batted really well, and is fit and bowling again
Jos Buttler - 8 - just the 2 innings, but included a wonderful 90
Moeen - 6 - just the 3 wickets in the series, place surely under pressure, but will go to Bangladesh and India
Chris Woakes - 10 - 9 wickets at 19,england's player of the summer
Mark Wood - 8 - wickets, pace, hostility, he's back
Adil rashid - 9 - wickets as always, has a fantastic googly, for me england's no1 spinner now
Liam Plunkett - 8 - pace and wickets
Jonny Bairstow - 7 - played well when called upon
David Willey - 4 - wicketless in his two games, but as always swings the white ball
Chris Jordan - 5- too one dimensional, can't just be a yorker bowler..batting has gone backwards as well
Liam Dawson- 5- will be sweating over his place on the winter tours

Pakistan

Azhar Ali - 8 - 208 runs at 41, including 2 half cenrturies
Sharjeel Khan - 4 - 100 runs at 20, 1 50, but didnt get going
Mohammed Hafeez - 3 - Had a tour to forget
Babar Azam - 4 - no score above 40, and gave his wicket away on regular occasion
Sarfraz Ahmed - 10 - 297 runs at 60, class act with bat and gloves, PLAYER OF THE SERIES
Shoaib Malik - 6-1 50, but wicketless and expensive with the ball
Nawaz - 3 - terrible series with bat and ball
Wasim - 9 - solid all round cricketer, great find for Pakistan
Mohammed Amir - 5 - 4 wickets at 48, and struggled
Umar Gul - 4 - surely finished at international level
Wahab - 2 - 1 wicket and got spanked everytime he played
Sami Aslam - 3 - he's good test match player, but shouldn;'t be near the odi side
Hasan Ali - 9 - 8 wickrts at 29, was impressive
Yasir Shah - 1- wicketless and got spanked to all parts, can;t quite take his test form into odi cricket
MOhammed Rizwan - 4 -
Mohammed Irfan - 6 - bowled well, but his fitness is a joke

Jordan has never been able to bat, its such a myth thats hes an all rounder. I have no idea where this came from and why its still repeated by "experts" (although I note cricinfo now lists him as a bowler not an all rounder). I guess his catching and athleticism is probably where the all rounder tag came form, he can bat a bit but is in no way ever looked like a Stokes/Woakes/Ali type.
He has a highest score of 55 in all limited over games hes ever played (although that 1 more than Stuart Broad who at one time was touted as the new Botham/Flintoff as well)
His score of 16 in the T20 is bang on his average for England, and the 15 not out in the ODI he batted in was well above his average for that format.
If anything hes going forwards in his batting!

In terms of the yorkers its typical England ...one extreme to the other. At one time they just refused to bowl them at all and had real issues when sides were opening up on them. Then suddenly Jordan came back as a specialist and now its all too predictable again. Sigh.

He seems to be the new Bopara, a player who will keep coming back and then keep disappointing.
