Quant Jock. One who is exceptionally skilled in quantitative analysis. More often than not using Microsoft Excel, Crystal Ball, SPSS, etc
Don't think you need to worry about it tbh.

It's more skills like R, SQL, SAS, Python, Perl, Hadoop, GIS etc that are in demand for the big money.
I'm half considering an MSc in it as there are lots of six figure jobs in this field and it's only going to grow.

Can only be duller than what you do now, surely? I did SQL and Perl on a course and it is duller than the dullest dishwater. Don't mind doing a bit of spss to help out colleagues but to do it full time you would need some sort of brain numbing agent.super_realist wrote:

Most jobs are pretty dull Monty, very few people are lucky enough to do anything they are genuinely passionate about.
Yes, it would be more boring than what I do now, but for that sort of money, I could put up with it, there's a fair bit of SQL and Python in my current job, so adding a few others wouldn't bore me much more.

Super
Have you been conned by one of those "this stay at home mom makes $1000/day" ad's?

Of course not Mac, I'm talking about Data Analysis positions. I don't expect you to understand why it's important.

Interesting article Shotrock, Thanks.
I buy it all as far as it goes, would actually be more interested in when the data mining turns up blanks, offers suggestions that don't turn out to be valid. Learn more from one's losses than the wins. True in golf, true in horse-racing, true in life.

Good stuff. Broadies book is an interesting, sometimes uncomfortable read. I hope Verner can work it out, because it is very easy to be sidetracked and/or make assumptions.
