I lost my singles tennis match yesterday. I always seem to end up playing guys who are young enough to be my offspring, so not only do I lose, but I end up feeling old as well as miserable.

I can imagine what that would be like. Some of these kids aren't so big but hit the ball so cleanly.
Some of the girls I reckon I could beat though. One had this awful and awkward serve... and looked a bit anorexic. The 16 y.o. ones would be a challenge though. One or two were quite strongly built... belting the ball relentlessly.

The thing I noticed was how cool and confident they all seemed to be. Carrying the huge bags full of rackets and strutting around as if they owned the place. I quite enjoyed the competitive atmosphere.

With the girls... some of that too but it is more about "the look". Plenty of short hot pink skirts and plaited hair. Some great legs on show too. Easy to get wood hanging beside the courts.

Just spending time with the family, young un is getting restless because she doesn't see me - shes at school when I'm home and I'm at work when she's at home. Crunch talks next week and a deadline for half term before I either stay happily or go unhappily. Boss was trying to put it off yesterday but I told him if it wasn't sorted by the end of October I'd leave without warning or notice.

Last week or so before the decision is made, well likely My boss (immediate boss, not the contract manager) reckons they'll give me some overdue backdated pay rises until they can sort it out but I'm not sure that they will. So fully expecting to leave by the end of the month and the other company has made some noises about bringing my employment forward two weeks If I can confirm by 27th Oct(starts mid November). So still a bit will I won't I but at least it's there where all parties are at the table and not making excuses for it.
