Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/40759863
Firstly Frampton comes in a pound over the feather limit and then Gutierrez slips in the shower, cutting himself and knocking out 2 teeth. That's awfully clumsy.
The cynic in me wonders if the fight didn't sell very well?

Can't see it not selling well, Frampton in Belfast.
But it does look odd. Strange that Carl can't work that extra pounds off and then the accident.
Gutierrez has posted pics and they look nasty. But timing is suspicious.
Have to give them the benefit of the doubt, I suppose.

Seemed to sell very well with only the really expensive tickets left with a lot of the fighters on the undercard, more gutted for them as we had a lad on there but hey ho, onto the next one

Do we think Frampton is struggling with the weight?

Obviously, it seems odd given he's not long moved up. But also strange to not make weight for a title eliminator

Re: Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
The tickets for the fight sold out in minutes, Gutierrez was in a bad way, between the nasty cuts, broken teeth and concussion there was no way he could fight
Think Frampton struggled after the LSC, he seems to have put more weight on and struggled to get it off going in to this one

Frampton resigned as a director from Cyclone. Rumours on Twitter that he's going to sign with Matchroom....

Re: Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
Sad if true, he left Matchroom because they wouldn't give him bigger fights and he wasn't complimentary of Hearn in the run up to the Quigg fight. They've changed their business model, I think partly influenced by Frampton and Cyclone, and become less risk averse when making matches.
Cyclone say he still has a promotional contract with them, probably true, though likely Gutierrez is the final fight on it. Matchroom say he hasn't signed with them, also likely true, as he couldn't sign until his Cyclone contract is up.

If true it just shows you money talks and maybe Frampton thinks Cyclone is matching him up too hard ;-)

Re: Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
I am unsure if it'll happen given their history. But would make sense financially for both Frampton and Matchroom.
It's a nice idea trying to get Frampton a big name and putting his fights on terrestrial tv, but he must be able to earn more fighting for Eddie on Sky PPV.
From Eddie's point of view, apart from Joshua, he doesn't really have many headline fighters left. Brook has an uncertain future and everyone else is either potential, past it or not really a big name.

Unless he didn't want to face the guy awaiting the winner of the eliminator?

Covered in article above and makes sense. GRJ more dangerous fight than Selby and would be a solid favourite vs Frampton.
'"I know Kenneth Egan was on [Off The Ball] last night and he was talking about that [the Frampton camp] wanted to miss the weight in order to avoid Gary Russell Jr, who if Frampton had won the fight, would then become Gary Russell Jr's mandatory fight. That makes sense in a lot of ways to avoid Gary Russell Jr. He's a very dangerous fighter, very fast, very slick American southpaw, a mover, a boxer and that wouldn't be a big draw this side of the pond," he said, adding that a fight against Lee Selby, whose profile would be bigger on this side of the Atlantic, would perhaps bring greater potential for pay-per view. He feels that it could now happen as early as October against Selby.'

Re: Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
So they chased a title eliminator fight then conspired to derail it? Makes loads of sense
If you watched the weigh in it was clear on the faces of the McGuigans and Frampton they weren't happy with the weight

Doesn't sound like he really chased the eliminator. Sounds like he wanted to fight Santa Cruz for a 3rd time or Selby but neither were a runner. Has to come back against someone. Doubt the SSE arena vs a fairly unknown opponent was top of the list.

Re: Frampton - Gutierrez Fight Off
They offered LSC his biggest ever payday to come to Belfast and he turned it down, Russell and Selby were both guys he wanted but weren't available. Russell in Belfast is unlikely to happen and will be in America if it does, Selby they are hoping to be the big fight they bring to Windsor Park next summer
Frampton wanted one more fight this year after Gutierrez and the hope had been it would be Russell

Think we've agreed on your first paragraph which shows his priority wasn't to fight a GRJ eliminator vs Gutierrez. So doesn't make it all that surprising if they were looking for a way out of it.
I don't believe Frampton wanted to fight GRJ. In the build up to his eliminator for a shot at GRJ all he spoke about was fighting Santa Cruz again or a domestic fight vs Selby. Off course when asked about it he'd have to say oh yeah I'd be interested in that, love to be a world champ again etc but he glossed over it and showed way more enthusiasm for the other fights. I'm a Frampton fan but a bit skeptical of this whole convenient missed weight scenario.

Why not win the eliminator and then fight Selby anyway? Would have given him another option if the negotiations with Selby didn't go well.

Of course LSC was his priority, he wanted to regain his titles. The loss affected him big time, he apparently put on more weight than usual between fights and that was part of the problem come last weeks weigh in. Russell and Selby are both on the list of fights he wants, as I said Selby was seen as being next year as he is willing to fight in Belfast and an outdoor winter fight in Belfast really isn't feasible
