Fun or Farce - The Maygregor Story Empty Fun or Farce - The Maygregor Story

I can hear the collective groan as you open another Mayweather/Mcgregor article (either that or you swiped past) but hopefully, I can put a little bit of a different spin on things and give you something new to think about.

Since first being mooted god knows how long ago now, the boxing community laughed this off as a joke, talks would forever be ongoing and we wouldn’t actually have to see this drivel (bear with me,) then it was announced and we all held onto the hope that this was some kind of exhibition or big joke as surely no-one could take Connor seriously as he spouted how he’d beat one of the greatest boxers of this generation.

Great article mate.I agree fully about, take it for what it is. It's entertainment and is bringing the sport huge exposure.

With a bit of luck, the fight actually might be fun.

Being that Floyd is a salesman 1st before a boxer it wouldn't be a surprise if he threw this to set up a bigger fight for more $$$ in future.

He's going to throw a fight whilst 49-0 to a no hoper, no chance.

You think really he cares about going to 50-0 vs a UFC fighter. I mean really. I imagine it'll be pretty low on his list of achievements. If he wanted to go to 50-0 he wouldn't of retired.

Yet you think he'd deliberately lose to said UFC fighter, going 50-0 is huge.

The fight will determine whether its fun or a farce. The general theme of Mayweather fights has been a big build up followed by a disappointing fight.

McGregor will likely fight rough and ugly as his only real means to make an impression in the fight. Mayweather is a defensive and elusive boxer with a track record of pretty boring decision victories.

Not neccessarily ingredients for a great fight. I will probably watch anyways out of curiosity and the hope that it bucks the trend of the typical Mayweather fight.

No way does Floyd want to lose to a fighter making his pro debut, it would ruin his claims to being TBE. That said, being 50-0 isn't huge. Chavez Sr was 87-0. It's just that Chavez didn't retire unbeaten.

Chavez fought loads of dross to pad that record. Still huge achievement though!

im not sure why boxing fans are always so obsessed with exposure for the sport. the more exposure i see it getting the more idiots follow the sport, which leads to more fights being put on ppv and same idiots lapping up said rubbish ppv fight. more money in the sport means more to protect so you rarely see the best fighting the best. less exposure to nonsense like this would mean the actual good fights would have more chance of being made.

I will be very glad when this is over. I will not watch it but am getting fed up with the promotion which seems to have been going on for about a decade!

Whenever I read sports pages this dominates the headlines, so for those who say "just ignore it" it's pretty darn impossible. Whenever I click to read the cricket, tennis or athletics pages a mug shot of these two cons is presented before me with some clickbait headline. Please just get on with it! steam
