Tassie 2017
Back up at Carnoustie for my favourite event of the year. Have been so looking forward to this year as I've slipped into a nice vein of form over the summer after a horrendous spring.
Just had practice rounds on each course over the weekend and pretty much killed any elevated expectations I might have had. Just have to tell myself that practice rounds are practice rounds, the scores don't matter, it's what you learn/get reminded of that really matters.
So medal rounds today & tomorrow, have got quite a job on my hands now to turn around pretty dismal practice rounds and get back to the kind of scoring I've enjoyed over the summer.
Looking at the weather forecast and the condition of the course I'd estimate scratch matchplay qualification will be quite high (maybe around 158 & handicap matchplay about net 150). Do-able if I can keep head on and not spray driver. Off on Championship at 7.37 this morning...let the fun begin!!

Re: Tassie 2017
It can probably be deduced from lack of updates that it didn't go well this year. Horrible rounds of 88 & 85 in qualifying. Was ok on the Championship on Monday to the turn. 6 single bogeys and 3 pars, I would have happily taken the same on the back 9 but no started the back 9 7,5,7 and finished with an 88. Not great as I had a reasonable idea of what the qualifying scores would be (as it happened I was spot on) Basically I needed a 72 round the Buddon for the HCP matchplay, not too unreasonable as it's a par 68 but reached the turn 5 over, after a needless 3 putt on 13 the head went and never recovered. Crushing disappointment given my form going in and mystifying given that I buffered again yesterday on my first round back home. Also the consolation rounds Wed- Fri weren't any better than the medal rounds.
At least I enjoyed the apres golf activities a bit more with no matchplays to get up for in the mornings from Weds Onwards and I suppose there's always next year!!

Oof, that's hard to bear JAS, but you know what they say?

Unlucky JAS. Just one of those weeks by the sounds of it.

I heard that the final of the handicap competition ended up as a match between my two local clubs in Hertfordshire. Long way to travel to beat someone from down the road!

Hadley Wood and The Shire Ray? I played with a guy from Hadley Wood in the qualifiers 3 years ago.
