I would also suggest Pakistan haven't played the short ball like scared 10 year olds today too
Indeed. Perhaps having played five matches against England recently they are a bit more used to facing the England bowlers whereas the WI ones took them a bit by surprise ? Whatever : I think it shows that on these flat pitches short isn't always going to be effective.
Another great outfield catch from Woakes I'm sure he'd like some wickets but his fielding effort has been worth its weight in precious metal...
England needed that .

It was around this time yesterday that Mahmudullah started flogging the ball to all parts...Pakistan need a similar effort here.
Oh my, four overthrows. Sums up England's overall effort this afternoon.

Always good when your throw is so offline the fielder backing up on the boundary can't even get there.
Not England's finest day in the field, a shame because Archer/Wood have done a decent enough job in these past few overs

Have been some good catches in the outfield ...but apart from that a lot of the fielding has been a bit ropey...
Nerves ?
That fifth wicket might save a few. Wood 2/53 , not bad from ten. Need a good finish from Woakes now : he's gone for a few today.
...and he's got one with a c&b ! Very important strike as it's the dangerous Sarfraz...

And have.
Some control bought back to the scoring rate which had been in danger of running out of control. 340-350 ?

Two in the over for Woakes...
Fair to say it hasn't been his best days bowling ; but he's done an important job in cutting off these batsmen in the closing overs. At 326/7 they might have to settle for 340...unless one of these collects a couple of big hits

Good last over from Archer. He's been hit around a bit today but this was a good finish with some nice variations. Unfortunately the last ball has gone the distance... 350 back on the table ?

Another mixed bag over ...more poor fielding
348. In the end theyll be happy enough with that, especially in context of where they were in the last game. Its been as much down to englands poor bowling and fielding (Moeen aside) though.
Just have to remember they are quite capable of easing through this sort of total.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup
Roy certainly owes the team a few runs after his fielding effort today - not good from him at all!
349 to win then - I'd say that's a par score personally. There's a little bit of grip in the pitch, so it's not your usual Trent Bridge concrete road, but not really any demons either. As per usual the outfield is lightning fast and obviously you have like a fourty yard boundary one side too.
Pakistan are gonna need Amir/Wahab to fire - Amir in particular if he can get a few early wickets

He can't have bowled enough of them then : I doubt he will return figures of 0/79 too often.
The late wickets flattered Woakes but he gets marks for his catching. Wood the pick of the pace bowlers today.
348 will be a stiff target. Fifty-fifty I think but England probably need a good start this time.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup
going by refrences to bilaterals & 450+ score by commentators & many English fans....it would appear Pak's 348 is below par
I think it's almost impossible for Eng and Pak are 90-10 favorites.......and had they crossed the 350 barrier, I would have given them a 100% chance of win

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup
So Pakistan, after being shot out for 105 in their last game, makes 348-8 this time round.
They would need an extraordinary bowling performance to win this one as the pitch is rather lifeless. Can Shadab or Amir or Wahab produce a magic spell and stop England's never ending batting lineup? This is not the kind of pitch where one can expect England to have a batting meltdown, they are nearly unstoppable on a flat track when chasing.
So Pakistan haven't been humiliated yet, but for me, England would go in as favorits at the start of their chase. But 348 are runs on the board, and a few quick wickets can set some panic in the English ranks, and if Pakistan then maintain their discipline, then they may just have a chance.

I think the reality is somewhere in the middle, England probably 60/40 favourites. Bookmakers reflect this, England 5/6 to win at this point and Pakistan 1/1 - so have England slight favourites.
KP_F's seeming refusal to acknowledge that past performance from a few weeks ago is a better indicator than past performances in 2015/2011 etc is a weird one. Even weirder to not acknowledge that they're playing at Trent Bridge

Its the slower balls and a few wide loose ones that were getting clobbered. There were a few bouncers getting called wides, but largely the Pakistan batsmen werent scoring off them and certainly not taking boundaries. Same goes with Wood, he was holding his line better than the others but it was his pace that troubling Pakistan rather than the variations. It also maybe explains why Woakes got scored off so easily, but he did loose his line a lot too.

Im with you here Ollie. Im less confident than I was earlier about Englands ability to score 349 but you only have to look at their record chasing down totals anywhere, let alone here. Im also not as up on Pakistans bowler, who have been poor recently, as KPF is.
But I do agree with him that pressure is a thing, and England do look rattled. Stokes though is one who thrives on this kind of situation. Roy will come out feeling he has to make a contribution, which could go either way. Theres so much batting down the order that they dont need to go too berserk early to chase this and can afford to be left with some slogging to do.
You have to give them a solid chance, this is the best batting side in the world.

Whatever , the chase will be a useful test for them. I do fancy them to get the runs unless they lose two or three early wickets. But I'd have my fingers crossed if I were you...

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup
England are the masters of the chase. Bar the first five overs, where the ball seams a little, there's nothing in it for the bowlers. The boundaries are laughably short. England are in the habit of chasing down this type of score against Pakistan very recently. England have the best ODI batting lineup in the world.
This should be a doddle for England. 5/6? Very, very generous.

60/2. Poor from Bairstow. Not a brilliant start, but England are ahead of where they need to be in terms of runs, so Root and the in-form Morgan have time to build a partnership.

Root and Morgan have a really important partnership to build here. It's a good pitch and lightening outfield but the ball is doing a bit.
The run rate is fine though, Pakistan are going to need to get 10 overs out of Hafeez and Malik. Root and Morgan just need to consolidate here.

Morgan clean bowled by Hafeez. He was struggling with the strike rotation aspect of the partnership.
Now, this is a real test. Stokes scored well on Thursday, same again please.

Big trouble is pushing it...they are at a better run rate than Pakistan were and bat deeper. Its sub optimal for sure but they've won from worse positions.
