All this commuting is getting me down. Up at 6 am home at 7 pm.
Only til end of March, and the job itself is fine, but I'm struggling with the commute.

Ouch. One of my friends used to commute from Bognor Regis to London, which is two and a half hours each way. He solved this by pitching up at about 10 and f*cking off during lunch.

One of my former colleagues once fell asleep on the train and got woken up by a guard at Broadmeadow... Newcastle. 100 miles away. Think he may have done it twice?

Morning, we had a friend who regularly used to fall asleep on the train back from the pub, we used to get off then bang on the window waking him up as the train set back off, the next stop was around a mile and a half away, fun times...

He never learned though.

Apologies if it seems like one-upmanship but another friend/colleague (the one who passed out and woke up to find a tramp fondling him) once got bladdered and fell asleep on the train home.  He lives over an hour out of London.  He woke up at Baker Street and was relieved that he’d only been asleep for a few stops, then realised that the train was coming back into London and he’d been to the end of the line and back.  He ended up having to get a cab, got into an argument with the cab driver and was left stranded when he got out for a p*ss having paid the fare upfront.  This was actually a pretty normal evening for him.

Well played.

Hang in there with the commute - did a similar commute for 12 months a few years back and it's pretty grim, especially over winter, but at least you can see the end point.

The key was for me - a good sleigh and a decent pack of huskies you could trust. Feed them well and they will do anything for you.
After all the initial hardships I faced during that first winter things did get slightly easier after a while. Hang in there Jules!

Morning Rick. Second.

There was a time when I lived on the 18th floor and worked on the 5th floor. It made going out to buy milk an adventure. I did it only for about 6 months. Quite a struggle really. I really enjoyed going to the suburbs whenever I could. It was like going on holidays... back to nature and all that.

Very smoky and hazy this morning but it cleared up in the afternoon.
It was very hot too... although a cool change is arriving as I type. The sun is just about to go down.. at last.

All is well. Might watch the debate tomorrow morning. It's on here at 7am.

Politics is rife here at the moment, I don't think I have ever known a more divisive political time (the crazy 80's were before my political memory's)

Johnson is getting away with a lot because of Brexit, and Corbyn appears to be total Marmite. There are a lot of voters who I would not have seen voting Tory in a million years, piling in because of Brexit promises, very odd.

I’ve had a great trip to New Zealand so far. Landed in Christchurch at 2am Monday; my flight was to Auckland. Monday there’s a mini tornado in Christchurch.

Now I’m in Tauranga, which is best visited for its beaches and mountain. It’s gonna rain tomorrow. If it’s rains Thursday, my day at the cricket will be cancelled too.

Worried about him, haven't seen him for a few weeks now. Might just be because it's dark in the mornings and the path isn't very well lit.

Things are good thanks, how are you keeping? Was going to ask if you've survived the smoke inhalation but it's probably not too different to how it is in London on a normal day.

There's a lot of over-hype for Sydney. We had only a few hours yesterday morning (14x Beijing apparently) when the air smelt of leaves burning in the distance. Then it has been all clear blue sky ever since.

However, there are some big nasty fires just north-west of Sydney and many more right up into central Qld but the wind is blowing from the south so we are avoiding the worst of it.

Looking at this map though... pretty scary how many there are. 4.1 million acres already wiped out.

Changing the subject slightly, Australia was covered in the latest episode of Seven Worlds One Planet. Had no idea that dingos weren't indigenous to Australia and that they hunted kangaroos.

I noticed those similar types of dogs in Asia whilst I was working there. You know... the ones just lying around on the roads. Some had horrible diseases and injuries but still had their tongues hanging out and were seemingly happy in their own way. I often thought they were a lot like domesticated dingoes but with an Asian mix. Sharper oriental facial features. Must be their ancestors, yeah?

The ones here would definitely go for kangaroo. Either individually or in small packs.

Is it not the case that all the dingoes on the mainland are essentially cross-breed (having mated with domesticated dogs over the past couple of hundred years)?

Am sure that I was told that the Fraser Island dingoes were the only pure dingoes left? Saw one up close when I left my tent in the middle of the night to go for a piss.

Timid looking little dog and couldn't have imagined it taking down a kangaroo.

Had a quick look at the Sydney zoo site and have to say I was very disappointed at the British representation. They've got goats, pigs, horses and dogs but f-all that you can't ride, pat or eat.
London zoo has an outback-themed exhibit so not sure why the Aussies can't return the favour with a Kent exhibit.

I spoke way too soon, Galted. Today was shockingly bad. Probably the worst I've experienced. Stayed inside... no point going outside apart from the swims in between cricket breaks. There were two Tests on... it's very well synchronised with NZ being a session in front.

The good news is that there should be a cool southerly change early tomorrow morning. That should flush it out. Hopefully.
