SURREY VS ESSEX EAGLES VITALITY T20 BLAST

Surrey have named a 13 man squad for Friday’s opening Vitality Blast match at Essex Eagles on Friday 19th July.
Overseas stars Aaron Finch and Imran Tahir are in line to play having joined up with the squad earlier this week following their ICC Cricket World Cup.
Jason Roy & Liam Plunkett are rested after their World Cup winning exploits but Tom Curran is available. Plunkett will then be available for the visit of Middlesex on Tuesday.
After the match, Rory Burns, Sam Curran and Roy will all travel to the FA’s St George’s Park in Burton for a training camp before the Test summer begins against Ireland next week.
Gus Atkinson (back), Conor McKerr (heel and hip) & Ollie Pope (shoulder) are continuing their rehabilitation after injury. Morne Morkel is rested.
There is no place in the squad for Matt Dunn, Stuart Meaker, Jamie Smith, Mark Stoneman, Burger van or Amir Virdi

Cheers, JimBob. Thanks especially for confirming the players for whom there's no place in the squad - unsurprisingly, something the club never does! Not looking good for Burger Van (whose contract is about to end) or Meaks (not sure if his contract goes up to end of this year or next).

I reckon Patel will definitely miss out and probably be joined on the bench by Borthwick.

Clark and either Borthwick or Patel to miss out for me. Sam, Tom, Dernbach, Clarke, Tahir and Batty should be more than enough bowling.

Odd that Patel and Borthwick are in the squad ahead of Smith and Stoneman

Hi James - Clark can at least biff it and that's why I go for him above Borthwick and Patel who can hardly get it off the square ... but who knows?!

Am I the only one a bit confused by the Tahir signing? Surely we could’ve done with another overseas bat, at very least an all rounder, especially in the knowledge that Roy was likely to miss most of the campaign?

Thank goodness it was only a 15 over match...Essex could have got 300 sounds like an incredible performance from....Dernbach to only go for 7 runs an over
