SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Surrey have named a 13 man squad for the home specsavers county championship game against Hampshire.
Ben Foakes will captain Surrey as the Specsavers County Championship returns with the visit of Hampshire to the Kia Oval this weekend (August 18th).
With club captain Rory Burns opening for England in the Ashes, Foakes once again leads the side, with Australian One Day captain Aaron Finch also due to play his only first-class game of the summer for the Club replacing Dean Elgar (no idea why he isn't playing)
Seamer Morne Morkel, who has been rested during the ongoing Vitality Blast, returns to the side to form a seam attack alongside Sam Curran, Rikki Clarke, Jordan Clark and Conor McKerr. Tom Curran misses out for the rest of the season after injuring his side in Thursday’s T20 victory over Sussex at the Kia Oval.
If Sam Curran is selected in the England squad for the third Ashes Test, he will withdraw from the match at the end of the second day and a replacement will come in.
This replacement will be named at the toss.
There is no place in the squad for either Garreth Batty or Jade Dernbach.
Sadly Jamie smith (hip), Liam Plunket (thumb), and Matt Dunn (hip), remain on the treatment table.
Full Surrey Squad
Ben Foakes (Captain)
Scott Borthwick
Jordan Clark
Rikki Clarke
Sam Curran
Aaron Finch
Will Jacks
Conor McKerr
Morne Morkel
Ryan Patel
Ollie Pope
Mark Stoneman
Amar Virdi
Right Will jacks is totally out of form so him and McKerr to miss out.
Over to you chaps, whoever is left

Cheers Jimbob. Jacks out of form as you say so him to miss out, along with McKerr or Clark. Not a lot between the two of them and the other is likely to slot in for Sam after two days anyway.

Good to see Clarke back taking wickets after a horrible time in the T20s

Cheers jimbob, stuck to task well today, hopefully knock them over quickly tomorrow and not ruin today's hard work!

Standard Hampshire collapse. Our bowling looks very light too. Just hope Abbott or Edwards have one of their special games

Shocking but predictable stuff from Surrey again, another number 10 smashing us all over the park

Not getting too excited yet, jimbob. Lower order runs give us a bit of momentum going into the bowling but you still have a lot of batting to come, Pope, Finch, Foakes, Clarke, Clark etc..

Well batted forgotten man Scott Borthwick! Out as soon as he got his ton! Useful runs from Stoneman and the Pope

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
If (big "if") Finch can get in and going here, we could build a healthy lead. At very least that knock from Borthwick has ensured parity or a small lead, but the rest of the middle order and lower order has the opportunity to build a lead, which we might be able to force a result from tomorrow?

Nice to see Pope in the runs. Is this his first 1st class game since the injury?

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Olly had the right idea with Finchy earlier. Build on his innings and extend our lead in the morning to about 170 / 180 from another 8 to 10 overs before declaring.
Purely going on scorecard, some good to extremely good individual contributions but that Hants 9th wicket partnership was very bad for Surrey.
In the words of Alf Ramsey, “You’ve won this game once, now go and win it again!” Goochie should understand!

Surrey's day jimbob!
Olly called it right
I think we should bat a bit longer than that Guildford, 240 lead, have an hour/45mins at them before lunch ....great quote....'66 and all that

Lets hope when England call him up again, which they will pretty soon, they do not throw him in at 3 again unless he is playing there for Surrey.

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Agree with Gooch’s method rather than Guildford in this case - either way we’ll need to bowl them out in 2 sessions which seems unlikely on this pitch

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Hi folks - my reasoning was that if we are to bat, say 90 to 100 minutes in total today, I would like Finchy being able to have a second dig and lead any chase. I prefer to sacrifice 2 overs for the batting changeover and send Finchy out to open than Virds batting number 11 this morning.

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Declaration comes - difference pretty much split between me and Goochie!
Given we had them 234/8 first dig, we should have a chance ... shouldn’t we?

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Dawson's 53 overs yielded nowt, and it all seems fairly placid leading up to lunch, so doesn't seem like Virds is going to spin us to victory!

Ignore duplicated earlier post, sorry about that.
Feel Virds will need to come to the party if we are to pull this off.
Great score by Pope - we’ve really missed his runs this season.

Did Sam Curran leave this game early to report to Headingley? If so who has replaced him?

LT, yes he did, Mckerr replaced him.
We've also lost Donald to concussion so we'll have a replacement batsman for him.
