Australia v India Test Series Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
2020 Border - Gavaskar Trophy Tipping Competition Rules:
Changes since last tipping competition
- Omitted the "Overall Test Prediction", so just pick your winning team before each Test. Or go for a Draw if you like.
- Simplified wicket keeping - select who will take more caught behinds and stumpings combined. Paine or Saha. 50 points for the correct pick.
- If they both take the same number of dismissals - then we all get only 25 points each. Or nominate "the same" to get 50 points.
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both Australia and India who you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Wade, Smith, Starc, Cummins
Pujara, Kohli, Shami, Bumrah
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Labuschagne, Rahane
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Paine or the same
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g. Australia
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g. Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Test result.
e.g. India
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 45 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsmen earn you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. eg. Paine or Saha.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 4 Test Match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 300 + 125 = 425 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped). Doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Any suspicious bank account activity noted from JDizzle and certain cricket "agents"? The sort of performance that would make Kyle Jamieson blush from his team so far!

My ploy of not selecting Smith and Labuschagne at all this series has backfired.

JD had all bases covered today... the twitchy Australian twin pair, Winx, the Bendemeer Bullet catcher, the fish breathing apparatus, the Long-Lasting One and the one descended from Krishna - who also happens to be part of the Lunar Dynasty. Brilliant work JD!
But I ought to check my bank account anyway... just to put your mind at rest, Goose.

Half up front and half after the final wicket wicket of the Fourth Test wasn’t it?

Not sure if Jadeja will be able to bowl this innings or bat in the 4th... and Pant also looks pretty doubtful returning to the field (Saha automatically replaces him in the wicket-keeping totals); so for the following, please let me know your replacement for Jadeja - just in case he doesn't return:
James,
JDizzle,
Gooseberry,
Soul Requiem and
KP_Fan
Also KP_F... I'll also need your replacement for Pant. So that's two subs allowed for you my friend.
JD, I've checked the account - nothing there?

Looks like Pant can Bat and for Jadeja it's hard too even wear gloves
so I will keep Pant as a batsman....and replace Jadeja the allrounder with Rohit if acceptable
ELSE with Bumrah as second choice

A bountiful day for KP_fan who had Green, Paine, Rohit and Gill and raked in 266 points. Nice work!
A lot of us will be relying on Pujara, Rahane and Vihari to put some runs on the board tomorrow... and/or the Australian bowlers to bag a few.
A captivating final day coming up no doubt... with JD still commanding a handy 97-point lead over James. The rest of us have some work to do.

JD and James and Tino seem to be away...
I am getting a sinking feeling ...even KP_fan getting uncomfortably close . Nice team innings from Ashwin but could he not have hit a few more boundaries ? I need the points

I was hoping Lyon might at least have got one more to give me some breathing space. It's a race for 'the middle' between you and me Alfie.

I'm never going to catch JD with the picks I've had so far. They are too similar to JD's.
I'm going to have to go with some left field selections for the last test and hope a few of them work out.
It's like been 1-0 down in the last 5 minutes. May as well lose 2-0 trying to get a goal than sit there doing nothing.

Re: Australia v India Test Series Tipping Competition
Going to have to change some stuff up to make my picks sufficiently different to JD's...
1.

Likewise!
Aus - Paine & Wade / Starc & Lyon
India - Pujara & Rahane / Kuldeep & Siraj (then Saini, Sundar, Ashwin)
WK - whoever has the gloves for India
Australia win toss and bat
Draw
I don't believe for one minute that much of the above will happen, aside from perhaps the Indian batters, but JD has too comfortable a lead to play safe!

I see neither Ashwin nor Kuldeep for India...so can I have this new chap Sundar instead of my "Ashwin or Kuldeep" selection ?

Might as well ditch Warner and go back to Burns!

Soul: please let me know your replacement for Ashwin...
No sign of Olly - for the time being I'll assume similar to the last test.
Smith, Green, Cummins, Lyon; Warner fielder. Rahane, ?, replacements for Ashwin (?) and Bumrah (?); Pujara fielder. Please let me know your w/k (? ) and result (?), thanks mate.

Well you got the toss right so I think you are still starting better than me in our fierce battle (with PJ) for the vital .....fifth place in the table
We aren't going to be challenging James & JD I'm afraid...

Tino, JD and Guildford....
Saini has just left the field...
Tino and JD - I see you both have Washington Sundar next in your queue. OK?
Guildford - please let me know your next Indian bowler choice just in case Saini doesn't return.

Let me know your Indian replacement for Vihari.... the cell 'lands' on Agarwal but you can change to Gill, Pujara, etc if you want. Currently Agarwal.
For bowlers I've got Shardul and Natarajan... again where the cells landed from last test.
So Paine (your least favourite player... you can change to Pant if you want) for most dismissals and Australia to win?
Again... that last one is still open for you if you want to change.
Go for it Olly!

Yeah, Sundar was my third reserve (already down to that after one day of play!) so fine by me.

All good JD. Sundar included for you. You've had yet another successful day.
Olly, please confirm the above so I can update the table with more confidence... and before KP_fan clears quarantine

Seeing as I missed out on changing pre test, I will just go with what the cell has "landed" on in terms of replacements all round please Joey.

Jesus, Gooseberry. You can back off mate.
Think we need to stop the count for JD. He is running away with it.
