Super_Realist Memorial Thread
I assume the man behind the Super_Realist account is still alive and kicking IRL, but for whatever reason he does not appear to be present around these parts anymore.
This is a thread where people can share their memories of SR and just pay homage to the great man.

I particularly enjoyed s_r's appreciation of the great Sir Lewis Hamilton. It brings a tear to my eye.

Re: Super_Realist Memorial Thread
I particularly loved his incisive insights into the condition of Scottish Football. The endless predictions of hopelessness and humiliation. He was particularly scathing of any optimism I had about the return of Rangers to the top of the pecking order, so it's particularly frustrating that he hasn't stuck around :-p
Still, I'm sure obese lazy people, dreadful politicians like Sturgeon, Salmon, Corbyn and Abbot will all sleep easier in their beds knowing that they'll no longer be the subject of his caustic wit.
To be fair he was a decent golfer and a decent runner, so there was usually stuff to glean from him in conversation if we could drag him away from scathing attacks on most of the aforementioned targets...oh and his attitude to our Irish cousins which quite closely resembled Alf Garnets love of Nigerians in its comedy value. Yep he will be missed!!
I do hope he is ok and just taking a rest.

Re: Super_Realist Memorial Thread
Thing is, I think Super was actually as good at golf as he said he was. You usually have to take online handicap claims with a pinch of salt but for some reason his scratch claim came off as credible.
Just a shame I could never educate him enough about golf course architecture that he could fully appreciate the greatness of TOC. Plus I always thought there was a chance to get a round out of him at some point.

I think he possibly went to private school. He had quite a few views that if you are Scottish tend to have come from private education.

Why? This is essentially a WUM thread (perhaps I should delete it?). You professed to want him re-posting here; can't see this being a positive influence to be fair.McLaren wrote:Come on people. I expected way more memories of Super to be shared here.

This obviously wasn't meant to be taken seriously but does that make it a WUM thread?

Covid is one thing, but it was pretty bad that we lost Kwini and Super in 2020. A terrible year for the 606v2 golf community.

It would be a difficult one for him to swallow thats for sure :-p
I think Shotrock nails it, if TW's accident doesn't illicit a response then he's gone for good.

I'm finding SR2 more than his equal for a political joust. Don't think he plays golf anywhere though, never mind anywhere notable

Has anyone considered reaching out to the admins? Either to find out of he's been permanently banned or to see if someone can get an email to him (without giving away his address of course). Perhaps an admin could email on our behalf?

This isn't a bad idea, it feels like he wasn't likely to just decide to stop posting, so he either got a long ban or something unfortunate has happened to him. Can any mods help us with this?

Stop reading things into this where there's nothing. He was getting blowback from all corners and, if I was to guess, decided that it was no longer worth the effort. Give him credit - at least he went cold turkey, which would fit w/ his view on all things like obesity etc i.e. it's just willpower etc.McLaren wrote:Davie wrote:Has anyone considered reaching out to the admins? Super certainly seemed like the type to do everything full throttle so his leaving is just as thorough.

I am pretty sure Super is right of centre. He was big on the self reliance and responsibility type of conservatism. In that he clearly thought that people need minimal help from the state or others to make a success of their life.[/quote]

Julius well aware mate and Im not in a position to know or judge but she seems a very bright well connected young lady with all manner of folk around her for support It may be she just underestimated what it would all be about. You cannot really expect to marry into Royal family and live a quiet life but she was a top media person.Tough gig.

It's lovely symmetry.
Super_Realist has left 606, Harry's left the Royal Family. Maybe they're actually the same person? It would explain why he's not posting here, far too busy dealing with the Oprah stuff.

Sad to hear of Super's demise. I really enjoyed his direct, no nonsense style and often hilarious overreactions to things. No friend of Tiger Woods, the Irish, Americans, Alex Salmond, organised religion.. the list is endless really, but I think he was a decent chap behind it. Also a top golfer in real life it seemed. I first encountered him on the bbc 606 golf site circa 2008. The board will be poorer without him.
