Super_Realist Memorial Thread
First topic message reminder :
I assume the man behind the Super_Realist account is still alive and kicking IRL, but for whatever reason he does not appear to be present around these parts anymore.
This is a thread where people can share their memories of SR and just pay homage to the great man.
RIP Super_Realist

There's plenty of Lee Westwood chat under the 'Notes from the Ballwasher' thread for you Monty...it's further up the page if your IQ needs a nudge to find it

For someone calling himself MontysMerkin I’m sure the IQ level on here isn’t low enough. Sorry MM.

So what do you think happened to Super? Must've been something major as he has been posting regularly on this and the old BBC 606 since at least 2008. I hope it was nothing serious.

Inco
It is a little worrying because he wasn't the sort to threaten to quit, in fact quite the opposite. He loved the rough and tumble of the arguments on here. And I think it has been confirmed he didn't get a ban, so there wasn't an admin issue to hack him off.
I just hope he returns once the golf season kicks in.

One the great mysteries of 21st century. A man who loved golf ,opinion and arguing wiped from the face of the internet,Or was he a 12 year old from Wigan ?

My observation is that he was (is) a man of extremes. Extreme opinion, extreme posting activity, extreme(ly) fine golfer ... so I'm not surprised he stopped 100% ... I don't envision him as doing any "part time" posting.

I'd agree with this Shotrock, sometimes taking an opposite stance just because. I just hope he is too busy to post here.Shotrock wrote:My observation is that he was (is) a man of extremes. This would be heartwarming. He seemed like a bit of an incel so great if he overcame that barrier and found happiness.pedro wrote:Or imagine this: maybe he found a girlfriend!!

I didn't find him dishonest. It wasn't like he painted a perfect lifestyle or anything. I suspect he was pretty lonely.
As for his golf the way he talked about playing the game makes me think he probably was a scratch player. As a fellow cat 1 player you have a sense of his knowledge of game and unlike Mav, Super seemed legit.

Re: Super_Realist Memorial Thread
I think realist had some kind of issues.
Was alimony every other day pretty much that he would throw an insult, or moan about this or that.
He’s certainly someone I wouldn’t be rushing to have a beer with anytime soon, but hopefully he’s ok.
Maybe he wants time away, really busy with work etc.
Or he’s just doesn’t want to post anymore.

I found it bizarre that he always seemed to have endless amounts of time during the working day, to immediately get involved with practically every topic that was posted on here. That despite holding a responsible and presumably busy job, one which he seemed on the surface at least to be very knowledgeable.

If this doesn't get Super back, then nothing will. Scottish Champions into Champions League proper

Lol I did try to tell him that the coefficient would steadily recover season on season the first 5 seasons that Rangers were back in Europe (the coefficient works over a rolling 5 year period). Indeed I think I said that barring meltdowns from either of the OF, Scotlands natural position was around 8th-11th I remember how deflective & defensive he got because it didn't fit with his Scottish football is dreadful narrative.
The Scottish co-efficient has built as follows
16/17 4375
17/18 4000
18/19 6750
19/20 9750
20/21 8500
33375
So this is how Rangers co-efficient points gathering looks
16/17 0
17/18 0250
18/19 5000
19/20 11000
20/21 15000
31250
There's a clear correlation between Rangers return and Scotlands improvement If we assume that Gerrard stays another 2 seasons, lets be modest and say they'll average 10000 points in the next 2 seasons, That'll put them around 50000 which will be good enough to see them into the top 30. In terms of the Country co-efficient, Rangers modestly expected points gathering contribution (an extra 4-5k per season) would boost Scotland potentially as high as 7th. I was putting speculation to Super that this was possible when Scotland were languishing around 24th in the rankings and Rangers weren't in the top 120. He ridiculed it as fanciful nonsense, gutted he's not here for the truth of the accumulated stats to slap him in face :-p

If Super does'nt re-emerge when Shane Lowry wins the Masters, then he is probably brown bread.

Genuinely not being sarcastic. We have known you through this site for a long time and in the current circumstances it was easy to think the worst when you disappeared.

Just fancied a break and see if I could quit easily.
My golf game has been in turmoil ever since I left so maybe needed a bit of motivation.

Sorry to hear that about your golf game. Have you had any highlights in amongst that, even playing a decent course somewhere different?

Don't think I've broken par all year but seem to be on track again now.
Played The Dukes at the weekend which was good to play a course that's a bit different and with big elevation differences compared to the flat and fairly featureless St Andrews.

Re: Super_Realist Memorial Thread
Lack of golfing luck confounded last night on the range, hit about 55 nice wedges, then on the next flicked a stone up right into my eye.
Nice black eye this morning (call the woke police if that is not PC)

Re: Super_Realist Memorial Thread
Super
I just can't face the range anymore. It is so boring and as far as I can tell it does me no good. Maybe with a practice plan designed by a coach I could get something out of it but I find just playing more on the course lowers my scores while the range just wrecks my swing. If I need to tune my ball striking I will just play a solo 9 holes hitting a few balls.

That's what Bruce Hornsby said when he went solo.

I can see why you think that. There's a guy I see there often and he practices with no structure and its not surprising he sees no improvement.
For example I will hit 30 balls with one club, but there's ten draws, ten punches and ten fades in that 30. It's calling on the ability to play a shot on demand, whereas the other guy will hit 100 wedges one after the other with no purpose.
Same in the chipping green. 10 balls only, see what % you get up and down with. The other guy hits 100 chips from the same position and just ends up with a pile of balls he can't tell whether they hit off another ball or whether he played a good shot.
