Mrs Bat has the song on a yellow coloured vinyl record from circa 1970. Offers? The single, not Mrs Bat.

The Dickies - yep that's the group and the record. Thanks, LiW. Seems like it could get me a couple of pints in Spoons on the way home from the cricket.

Sicond.
The Dickies' cover version was from the late 70s I think. Not sure if they were still called The Incredible Shrinking Dickies at that point, or if they'd shortened it.

Remember it was on mid 70s (I think) here. It was below me personally but one of the neighbours (the youngest daughter* who now writes letters to the SMH editor about politics mainly) was always glued to the TV screen watching it. She was very short-sighted so was only an arm's length away from the TV. Her older brothers used to tease her quite a lot and carry on like idiots trying to distract her and she'd go ballistic... then usually burst into tears within seconds. Then the mother would come in and say "What's going on?" and then 'send me home'.
* her best friend was Catriona Rowntree... who is quite a well known (and attractive) TV personality over here. She lived up the road.

Don't really know what to do with myself in the break between the group stages and last sixteen - it's a bit like the c*nt cup (though with the likes of Ronaldo, Pepe and Southgate at the Euros you could say it is the c*nt cup, l*l out loud, chortle, ho ho ho etc).

I very rarely watch professional footy. Haven't watched a prem game in full for about 15 years but the kids all want to watch the Euros. I watched the 2nd half of the Croatia game. Sh*t. I watched the 1st half of the Scotland game. Sh*t (then fell asleep). Then I watched the 2nd half of the Czech Republic game. Sh*t.
Then I remembered why I don't watch it. It is sh*t.
I'll probably watch the Germany game as the kids will be all over it but fully expecting that to be equally sh*t.
I was impressed by a couple of the players though. I thought the black dude at the back with the dreads was decent and the goalie looks like a nice young man. Harry Kane looks like they may as well swap him with me for the all use he is.

F*cking shameless attempt to curry favour with LIW.
Glad you like the black dude at the back with the dreads. - his name is Tyrone and he plays for Aston Villa, which means that old f*cking mooseface will drop him as soon as he gets the chance.

Re: Music Section Morning Tea Society
Professional football is such a political issue. There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking it or not liking it, but the media obsession with it is just awful. International games are almost certainly worse in quality than club level, so their impact just seems to depend on making them such huge cultural events, something everyone has a stake in, so being able to say 'I was there' is more important than what happens on the pitch.
When we grow up these days generally we don't get indoctrinated into religion and we shouldn't get indoctrinated into excessive nationalism and all that kind of crap, but I'd guess most schoolboys still have to either choose a football team or have a team imposed on them. And if you are not into it you must be some kind of weirdo.
Of course at the same time it is the simplest most perfect random team sport. Infinitely adaptable to the number or the skill of the players. All you need is something to kick around and two objects to mark goal posts.

I've gone off it a bit in the last decade or so as it seems a bit silly supporting some rich b*stard's plaything, it's like running around Knightsbridge cheering on a Bugatti Veyron you happened to see at the lights. And don't get me started on anyone over the age of 12 who wears their club strip with their favourite player's name on the back.
