2021 England v India Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
2021 India v England Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and India whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Sibley, Root, Broad, Anderson
Rohit, Kohli, Ashwin, Sharma
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches and run outs in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for caught & bowled or run outs from own bowling) if you want.
e.g.
Burns, Pujara
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Buttler or Pant... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
India
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the Test match result.
e.g.
England
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 45 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsmen earn you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e.g. - Buttler or Pant.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test match = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 5 Test match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 375 + 125 = 500 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped).
It doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points up until the point of the replacement of the injured player from the field – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Good start JD
guildford and Duty obviously spot on with the weather forecasts.
I suspect I am unlikely to challenge in this one. Rushed selection came back to bite so will just have to try and limit the damage from here...
Another well run Pal Joey competition under way

Thanks for the compliment.

You'll always be challenging, Alfie. Have you seen your overall record above? Excellent work!

Understand your "rushed selection" comment though. Similar for me. I was fiddling with the spreadsheet as the time was ticking away for the toss. No excuses though.
Such a quick turnaround for the 2nd Test, isn't it? Think I'll have to give Sibley a rest. Too slow and low scoring despite some saying that he plays an important role... although I felt helpless watching Root zoom past him on the scoreboard. It's like a tortoise and a cheetah... with the cheetah crossing the line with considerably more ease. The hare (Zac Crawley?) still asleep under a tree it seems...
The talk of Moeen possibly playing on the match thread is interesting reading. I see he's in hot form in the Hundred. Like a few others have mentioned... think they should just get him in the side whichever way. Surely he would stabilise and balance the side?
Experience counts and he's obviously still got the drive, determination... and dare I say confidence which can frustrate and intimidate opponents. Personally I wouldn't worry about where 'his peak' was. He's in good form right now and seems fit. The problem again would be (should they select him this week) is that at some stage (down the track) they will have to 'let him go' again... which obviously plays on the selector's minds. Just bite the bullet and call him up in the XI.

Second test then...
Root and Pope (if no Pope. then Hameed, if no Pope or Hameed, best go for Sibley), Mahmood (if no Mahmood, then Wood) and Curran
Kohli and Pant, Shami and Bumrah
England's keeper to take most catches.
Root and Kohli in the field.
India win the toss and bat.
England win.
Thanks.

Ha . If I had been sure the doomsayers were wrong about Jimmy's fitness concerns I think I'd have had him as a bowler...
But I will let my original picks stand : not expecting much from this particular event anyway.
Good luck all

Not too late to change if you want, Alfie.... they're going off straight away.
Have a whiskey... a think about it... and let me know in around 10 minutes if you wish.
Nah - will stick with Curran and Robinson, thanks. Bad luck to make late changes - I tell myself

Truth is I'm mostly guessing this time around - can't seem to get any solid confidence in any picks.
Bit early for the whiskey ... and will need resupply soon as all these lockdowns are making a dent in the inventory...

Fair enough. That's understandable.
As long as you don't spill it on your lap when Jimmy inevitably strikes.

Actually just spilt it on the small table beside the couch...flicked the glass with a power cord...clumsy sod I am.

Funny, I tripped over a power cord in the bedroom the other night. Nearly brought down a bedside lamp... which was left teetering on the edge of the bedside table. How lucky! Hadn't been drinking. I simply caught the cord between my big toe and second toe somehow. I blame my kangaroo feet.

I was seriously dabbling with the idea of choosing a fielder other than Root because just about everyone else has him... and was leaning towards Bairstow. Never got around to actually posting it up though.
I did, however, swap Rohit for Rahul... don't know why. Just had a funny feeling that he was in fairly decent form last match and I like his temperament at the crease.

Joey - characteristically modest of you not to flag what a good day at the office you had. Well done!
Meanwhile, JD and James pushing on to reach four figures whilst a canny call by Lowland about the toss decision.

Thanks Guildford.
As at lunch; we now have 4 members over the 1000 point mark. You, KP_Fan, JD and James.
KC and Duty are only a few points below... in the 990s.
Yes, it was a clever and gutsy call by Lowland... should be worth 50 points really.

For the 1st Test: 2nd Test in bold
Pujara, Kohli, Jadeja, Shami
Day 1: Kohli 42, Pujara 9 and one of Robinson's wickets 20 = 71
Plus 30 points for England win toss and decision to bowl = 101
Day 2: Robinson 1 wicket (20) + Jadeja (40) runs + Shami (20) 1 wicket = 80
Total for 2nd Test = 101+80 = 181
Total for 1st Test = 486
= 667 points
Buttler for most dismissals
England win toss, chose to bowl
India win
Does that look right, Lowland?

Ah, probably should have made it clearer that "if needed" applied to both changes, and that I was taking Burns for Crawley in both categories.Lowlandbrit wrote:if needed I'll have Burns for Crawley and Robinson for Anderson please.

I'll be honest I take that to mean you've chosen Anderson and only Robinson if he didn't play?

Oh I see what you mean. Definitely Burns since Crawley was out... but still keep Anderson. Gotchya!

Sorry! I'll fix it up for you. Your adjusted score will be up after Day 3... early Sunday morning here which will be late Saturday night for you.

Yeah. I hope you don't mind, Soul. Think most of us were thinking Jimmy was pretty much out... but I should have understood what Lowland meant.
Lowland will be nipping at your heels or maybe just in front depending on how things pan out today.

Re: 2021 England v India Tipping Competition
Actually, it was much easier than I thought. Done for you Lowland... formula adjusted.
As of 60th over. England 173/3 (Root 66 Bairstow 37)
Lowland you are on 802 points. Soul on 789 points.
I took off Robinson's 40, then added Jimmy's 100 + 50 (5-fer bonus) + 25 point bonus for the catch.
Sorry to scare you mate!

That was the idea, yes. Was thinking about just taking whoever came in for him, but with Broad out too I wasn't sure how clear that would be and I wanted to make sure I had a new ball bowler.Soul Requiem wrote:I'll be honest I take that to mean you've chosen Anderson and only Robinson if he didn't play?

Curran indeed not doing much for my team. And to think I was a whisker away from putting Jimmy back in instead of him ...

Note:
Just realised I forgot to add some of the bonus points (e.g. Root 180+20+25).
I thought the scores looked a bit low on such a high-scoring day! Luckily nobody picked it up...
Apologies everyone. All fixed now. Not much change in the rankings.
