Glasgow and Edinburgh 28 and Counting - The banter goes on!
First topic message reminder :
28 and counting, where do we get the energy!
Another Glasgow re-signing coming up this afternoon, following on from the White Rhino, the animal theme is hinted at again. Who could that be?

You're still not looking to share your pies either.
Actually, I'm not looking for a link either.

Pies are always shared. As long as I’ve had one already.
I’ve resigned myself to no rugby today. Cry

Both sides seasons seem to be rapidly running out of steam. At this rate we’ll find a way of both losing that final league game!

Glass half full, at least both sides were competing in knock out rugby and didn’t just bomb out of pool stages. Good lesson for the young players for next time (hopefully).
Why do Glasgow keep flopping in the second half? They love to start fast but you can’t play like that for a full 80

Edinburgh falling short when it really matters again. Really struggled with so many front row injuries and dominated up front. Still had more than enough to win it but discipline let us down again.
As for Glasgow, again?!

Edinburgh and Glasgow looked great in phases but just seem to get squeezed out in the last quarter. Edinburgh were good enough to beat Wasps and Jimmy Gopperth's iron lung but managed to find a way to not do so.
Anyone who didn't see (a) Finn's Half Volley Try and (b) Arundel's Try From The Edge of the World at the weekend should do themselves a favour and get over to YouTube immediately.

GC, the highlights reels of both games are excellent. The Teddy Thomas try, is also a masterful display of delicate skill and fast thinking in a tight situation. The final Racing try also demonstrates how simple the game can be with devastating effect.

I know some critics give him a bit of a panning for his defensive positioning but Teddy Thomas is probably the most balanced runner in world rugby. He's never looked clumsy or unsure with ball in hand, world class going forward!

As we know with Hoggy, the nuances to fullback play will come with time. He possesses pace and flair that just can't be coached.
He's got a lot of developing to do but he's an incredibly talented player.

With Hogg due to be 30 next month, I don't think the old dog has much time left in his playing career to do a lot of developing.

Edinburgh announce their departures this morning.
Alongside Toolis, Bradbury and Taylor that we knew about, are added Chamberlain, Grahamslaw, Johnson and Moyano.
Chamberlain and Grahamslaw probably never quite made the grade. Johnson has been a good servant without ever really holding down a starting spot and will be ever remembered for taking the scoring pass from Big Bill in that game against Touon.
Moyano is the surprise here and I would imagine it comes down to money. He is a good player and it would be surprising if someone did not offer him more than Edinburgh can afford, or would want to spend on a winger.

Agreed on Moyano. He's a class act and a terrific finisher. It can only be money.
Toolis deserves a proper send off. Been a great and consistent servant to Edinburgh rugby. Sykes, Graham, Young, Pierce and Gilchrist are a good collection to choose from going forward.
JJ is a clever player at 13 but realistically lacks heft at this level. I think there's more mileage in Matt Currie and he needs more game time. Chris Dean is a better bet that JJ for squad cover.

Moyano has been a good signing but is also about to turn 32 which is getting over the hill for a winger. Scottish rugby has plenty talent at wing as well.
Agree on Toolis - I'm guessing he's not gonna have one last game which is a shame. He's been one of Edinburgh 's best ever locks IMO.

Scheoman signs on again with Edinburgh.
That's a good bit of business, he will have had plenty suiters and having qualified for Scotland, was under no obligation to hang around. Good for him for doing so and putting the years in, he does seem very happy at Edinburgh.

Moyano's contract was apparently a strange one, where Toulon were paying half, it would seem Edinburgh were unwilling to stump up the rest to keep him on.
I'm pretty sure Toolis is already in Japan/Oz/out the country, I know he doesn't officially go till the end of the season, but I think it was mentioned he would be away beforehand.
Also apparently Boffelli is better than he's shown so far (which let's be honest, is phenomenal), told we've not seen half the stuff he can do yet.

Good news that Schoe hasn't done a VDM and left immediately after becoming SQ. I'm sure he would have had his suiters. He's the type of player you build a club around and it's great he's staying for a 'long term' deal which I'm guessing is at least 2 years. If he wants a France payday after that then fair enough.

Schoe is the heartbeat of the side. A good scrummager, if not a superb one, but a hell of a player around the park. I'm delighted he's staying.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 28 and Counting - The banter goes on!
I see the Luvvies' front row crisis is such that they have made an emergency signing of a young prop from some mediocre English cub: the only notable thing this "Struggling club panic and sign stop gap youngster with 'potential' " scenario is that the young man has two first names. Harry Chapin once sang "Old John Joseph was a man with two first names" and now the Luvvies have Jack Jack.
Has anyone seen Jack Jack Attack?
Interestingly the Harry Chapin song actually goes, "Old John Joseph was a man with two first names and they left him in the railway yard when they took away the trains." The sense of futility and a life not lived summed up in the image of a name that's not really complete and a job as a night watchman in an empty shunting yard has echoes of the railway station scene in Trainspotting and is also perfect for the quintessential "nearly a rugby club" playing in an inevitably empty stadium. I'm looking forward to Saturday. Flounder boasts that Shooey follows him on Twitter....store detectives follow me in John Lewis's all the time.

Finn Russell not exactly graceful in defeat to La Rochelle at the weekend.
Adopted the Welsh approach of not being beaten, just with his opponents having scored more points than them.
I do think that Ronan O'Gara is an arrogant, sour-faced, steward of the bar but there's nobody can deny what great work he's done with Rochelle. He took a good club and made it better. As Cockers proved, that's harder to do than we probably all think.

Boys! Boys!!!
What is occurring here? Five more sleeps till The Annual Slaughter Of The Effeminates and we're all being namby pamby touchy feelie to each other.
Tigertattie has hands like jublees, he couldn't catch Covid.
Fes is the barsteward love child of Jacob Rees Smug and Ann Widdicomb and he inherited her speed on the wing.
Flounder was so broken by watching the Luvvies lose in an empty stadium that he begged wee Nicola to reinstate Transportation for minor offences and had himself exiled among the criminal element down under.
Gee is a saint.
Bru is the thinking man's street fighter. Thinks he is the Love child of Rambo and Rimbaud. Speaking of which how much over compensating is going on when a grown man nicknames himself Rambo/ Has he no willie at all?
Predictions? Unless Glasgow are 35 points up at 59 minutes we will contrive to fall asleep at the hour mark and lose.

I am looking forward to the inevitable late collapse from Glasgow but I have a feeling they'll come out on top this time. It may come down to last man standing in the front row given all the injuries there's been.
I can see it being a high scoring game - 32-27 Glasgow!

Huw Jones returns to Glasgow!
Can't help but think that's a major step back for him, but maybe Quin's didn't offer him a new deal. He's also maybe been promised gametime at 13.

It is a bit odd. He may get a better run now though at Glasgow. Especially at 13 plus he can provide full back cover if the warriors starting full back limps off
I’m feeling very glass half full today so I’m seeing this as shug returning to be in the shop window of the SRU to get himself back into the Scotland team on a regular basis.
Nice and easy selection. If Hutchinson or Redpath aren’t playing at 12 then shug goes to 13 to play along SJ or another non ball playing 12.
If Hutchinson or Redpath are at 12 then hardest working man in world rugby can continue at 13

Yes
Even if we’re not “winning” on the scoreboard after 80 then we’ll still win morally as A) we showered before the game and B) we actually play proper rugby

That seems like a really really bad move! He's finally managed to get back to his old self playing in a Quins team that really suits him, pushing through to get the regular game time he's been needing. Maybe his second coming will go a lot better without Cowboy Dave around doing his best to scupper his rugby career, but it feels like a massive risk and must be down to Quins not being able to fit him under the salary cap

I dont know if it is that bad a move - he covers 13 & 15, he's a step up at 13 compared to anybody else at glasgow and he's not going have to suffer rennie picking GRIGG ahead of him because *checks notes* Grigg is a kiwi and can do a chop tackle???
If he's been told he's guaranteed game time at 13 and the focus is on what he brings to the attack then it'll be a good move for him, glasgow and scotland.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 28 and Counting - The banter goes on!
He went to Quins last min, after his French club got relegated and he was likely snapped up very cheaply and on a short term contract.
He was likely looking for a better deal this time and the cap did not allow it.
The rumour around the deal happened much earlier in the season. When he was not getting much gametime with Quins. His opportunity only really came along when their regular full back, Tyronne Green got injured.
I can see why he has left Quins for those reasons and we have just got to be pleased to be getting such a class player back at Glasgow. We needed a big signing and this could be it. Hopefully he can stay fit this time and will really show us what he can do.

Well, as a big Huw Jones fan, I'm pretty pleased to have him back in Scotland but I really hope that it's to play 13 for Glasgow rather than 15 (where Quins have used him recently).
I want Ollie Smith to have an extended run at 15 for Glasgow plus I think Tuipolotu is far better at 12 than 13. SJ and Jones is the optimal combination for me.
Fingers crossed the Weegies don't ruin the progress he's made at Quins in recapturing his form.

Oh it’s a great move for Glasgow don’t get me wrong. It’s just you’ve shown you can’t be trusted to use him properly once already, so I’m not sure what’s giving him confidence that you’ll do a better job this time around!

Dave Rennie no longer being the coach maybe?
I am not sure Huw Jones was ever that unhappy at Glasgow, he has spoken about how happy he was living there and i don't think he was against staying last time. Except the money offer was no where as good as his initail contract.
Rennie clearly resented the money he was signed on and the fact that injuries stopped him playing so much.
He is an older, more mature player now, who will likely realise that it is time and sction on the pitch for Glasgow that will count, much more so than anything he hss done in the past for Scotland.
I am hopeful we will see a much better version of Huw Jones this time around.

Jeez that team is dreadful. Please tell me that was a pre-season friendly or meaningless challenge cup game?

Can't help but think that's a major step back for him, but maybe Quin's didn't offer him a new deal. He's also maybe been promised gametime at 13.
Got to disagree with you there Flounder.
How could playing at leafy Scotstoun be other than a step up after the dark satanic mills of Twickenham?
I think i's very, very good news for Glasgow. At 13 now we have Shug, Shona and Seaman. That's three quality players competing for the starting jersey. It also means that at 12 we will have Johnson, Lord Stafford and Tom Jordan....with Shona also available at 12.
I see that as four international class centres, Stafford who has promised much but not really delivered consistently and a youngster who looks to have a fair chance of making the grade. I think the two youngsters are in a dream position where they can learn from some excellent players and be brought through at a sensible pace.
Next season might be worth watching after all. If we can keep playing beyond the 60 minute mark.

First of all. Apologies if I have ballsed up the quote function
Secondly, whilst we are now well stocked in the backs - could maybe do with a decent 10, to support Thomson? - I think that realistically we need a big ball carrying back 5 forward, and a big, genuinely hard and fearsome back row player.
Much as RW is the chief wind up merchant, he isn't a big, hardnut, or a big ball carrier.
If we get two players of that type in the matchday squad in place, then, we will go places.
I'm over the moon that HJ has returned, and that DR is no longer around to screw it up.
I think that a pairing of Johnson/Jones in the centre will be pretty special.

To be clear I was meaning it's not a great move for Jones - Glasgow will be delighted!
This time is different though I feel - when he first signed for Glasgow it was clearly SRU influenced and Dave Rennie didn't want him there. This time he should hopefully have a better time of it.
