F1 2022 season - Michael Masi sacked
First topic message reminder :
Rumours suggesting Fernando Alonso's deal with Aston Martin could be up to 4 years long. 2 years guaranteed. Third year is driver side option and fourth year is team side option.
Alonso might never retire at this rate LOL

They take too long to make decisions with regards to SC deployment

The McLaren is stuck in gear and the marshalls can't move it so that'll be it I think

Max Verstappen banishes the ghost of Monza past, to win at the 'Cathedral of Speed' for the first time. His last race as a 24 year old, Verstappen registers win number 31 - equaling the great Nigel Mansell. The Dutchman's 11th win of 2022 - the all time record it definitely under threat.

Well that was an anti-climax.
Poor decision making by race control. Should have red-flagged it immediately - at least we could have had a few laps of racing and a proper finish.

Max Verstappen is inevitable.
Ferrari may have Frak their own strategy but lost 2 seconds to LeClerc making up his 5 places. A second championship will be confirmed sooner than later

You cant just red flag it for entertainment. Would have to be a rule change that a race ending under SC is a red flag

Nyck De Vries claiming 2 points in his debut. Can't do much more to position himself for a drive

Re: F1 2022 season - Michael Masi sacked
Ferrari tried to do something different but RB and Max just had too much for them to have a realistic chance of winning. This is rapidly becoming a very boring season.
Another podium for Russell - he is having a remarkably consistent season and delivering on the promise he showed at Williams.
Good drives by Sainz & Hamilton after starting near the back.
De Vries earning a valuable 2 points for Williams on debut and further showing what a waste of space Latifi is. Such a shame they need his money, otherwise Nyck & Alex could be a great driver pairing.

Well change the rules then.
F1 already has a tarnished image as a frequently boring sport. Having races end as SC processions does nothing to help this.
Red flagging races in circumstances like these isn't just about entertainment...it also makes it even safer for the recovery crews by taking the cars off the track.

Russell probably the most thankful for that SC in the end. Might have just been worth Ferrari leaving Sainz out

Tifosi booing Verstappen isn't really on...Especially as Ferrari has been sniffing around Verstappen if he carries on beyond 2028...

Max will win the title in Singapore if he wins and LeClerc isn't on the podium (without fastest lap)
Singapore should be Ferraris best chance to slow down Max though

Singapore probably Ferrari's last chance to win in 2022...no hope in hell of beating Verstappen on tracks with insane straights like Mexico, Brazil, Texas and Abu Dhabi

Verstappen has won 5 straight now - I'm assuming Red Bull will go all in at Singapore as after that Verstappen would be odds on to shatter Vettel's 9 straight wins(Ascari is also unofficially accredited with this record)

In the end, Ferrari have made a mess of it but LeClerc wouldn't be finishing above second this year regardless. RB just have the strongest team and driver combo this year

If Latifi had any shame he’d vacate his seat. He was humiliated by de Vries at Monza.
It’s insane how someone as dreadful as Latifi lasted so long in F1

So Nico Hulkenberg has 'moved to the top of Haas' list for 2023'. Steiner says Antonio Giovinazzi remains an option, but the Italian's two FP1 sessions are 'a favour to Mattea Binotto'. Pietro Fittipaldi remains an outside option.
Jack Doohan, son of MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, looks set to join Alpine.

Presumably they hope he's another Magnussen. What he's done since the opening races to make them want that escapes me.

Colton Herta will be doing a private test for Alpine, at the request of Red Bull.
Nyck de Vries will also do a private test for Alpine - he’s the fallback option if Gasly can’t join Alpine.

Yes I've enjoyed the racing this season in the midfield, been plenty of good scraps and the regs have definitely worked to produce cars that can follow and overtake easier. It's a shame that Ferrari's challenge to Max has fallen away, early season it was shaping up to be a great fight between them and Red Bull...I still think they aren't *that* far behind on pure pace, it's just Red Bull are so clearly ahead on strategy/experience, and also quite frankly, Max is currently a level above the other drivers, which has contributed to it being a runaway title victory.
Looking forward to going back to Singapore and Japan in the coming month, both entertaining venues in my opinion and welcome back on the calendar post covid.

I remember thinking at the start of the season that the 'Ferrari did a good job with the original concept, so they'll surely develop well too' talk was pretty optimistic. As with the strategy, they are what they were, and that wasn't the best.Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:It's a shame that Ferrari's challenge to Max has fallen away, early season it was shaping up to be a great fight between them and Red Bull...I still think they aren't *that* far behind on pure pace, it's just Red Bull are so clearly ahead on strategy/experience

As the old saying goes 'qualifying for show, racing for dough'
Red Bull's race trim just too much for Ferrari.

Think the result at RB Ring was slightly misleading tbh. The sprint race caused some setup issues for Red Bull. Post Austria, Red Bull has been had all bases covered.

If Colton Herta can match or beat de Vries and Doohan at this private test for Alpine - Red Bull will try to force the FIA to issue Herta a super license.
Gasly desperate to join Alpine…
Antonio Giovinazzi has now also been invited to this private test.
Somehow he’s now a contender for the alpine seat.

There was a time not long ago, Stefano was the voice of maintaining tradition in F1.
He’s sold himself to the devil now...

Robert Schwartzman will do FP1 at Austin for Ferrari. It’s the Russian’s first FP1 opportunity this season.

Re: F1 2022 season - Michael Masi sacked
Some of the Piastri stuff is entertaining.
Alpine originally sent a heads of terms with the vague promise of a contract after they launched the 2022 car. This only covered Piastri as a reserve in 2022. When pointed out Piastri needed a contract to gain a superlicense to operate as the reserve driver Alpine wrote legally binding at the top of the heads of terms.
Alpine then did not deliver a contract in March after launching the car, despite Webber getting more than slightly Frak off, in the end they decided to look elsewhere.
Alpine eventually sent a roadmap across in May, essentially a 2 year loan at Williams with a break clause after year 1, then an Alpine seat in 2025. By which point Piastri had already signed a preliminary agreement with McLaren.
Alonso then left, Alpine decided to just announce Piastri, who had already signed his McLaren contract.
Needless to say the CRB is spectacularly unimpressed, Alpine had to pay everyone's legal fees, amounting to more than half a mil.

Red Bull ends pursuit of Colton Herta after FIA refused to relent and grant a super license.
Elsewhere Monza faces losing the Italian GP after yet another underwhelming effort hosting the race.
FIA really wants to take the Italian GP to Mugello so Ferrari covers all the costs - there’s currently a legally binding agreement between Monza and Ferrari not to allow this.

Logan Sergeant will join Williams if he has enough points for a super license.
Red Bull are close to finalising a deal to sign Nyck de Vries to join AlphaTauri. Deal could be announced anytime become now and Singapore.

That would be an odd twist. Bit old for a developmental team, not particularly glamourous if they're thinking of selling. Not sure I see the appeal for him either, unless he thinks RB would seriously consider moving on from Perez.Jeff Navarro wrote:Red Bull are close to finalising a deal to sign Nyck de Vries to join AlphaTauri

Verstappen and de Vries are supposedly close friends. The F1 world champion supposedly gave his backing to the FE champion
AlphaTauri options are somewhat limited anyway. Most of their juniors are average.

Not like Red Bull are desperate for prospects when they have a 24 year old Max Verstappen in the form of his life
