Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
I was kind of counting him already
Craig and Johnson will have to go back after the third game only leaving Williamson and Brown as locks.
I suspect Cummings will have to stick around unless they bring someone else out.

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Rob Carmichael is due to head out for the last two games. Very raw player but theoretically right place, right time to get a cap.
Suspect for Uruguay though we will need some experience and Cummings will be kept on.
Looking at Chile and maximising the players we are about to lose
Sutherland - Richardson - Hurd (McBeth - Harrison - Sebastian)
Craig - Johnson (Williamson)
Brown - Bayliss - Crosbie (Ritchie)
Warr - Hastings (Dobie - Healy)
McDowall - Currie
Reed - Paterson - Steyn (Paterson)

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Millar-Mills, Thompson, Robbie Smith and McCann all heading home along with the injured Glen Young.
Finn Richardson, Ben Afshar and as Hazel says Rob Carmichael all coming out as development players.
So you would suspect he will maximize the use of the players who will be off after the Chile game.
So maybe something like
Schoeman
Richardson
Hurd
Johnson
Craig
Bayliss
Darge
Fagerson
Warr
Healy
Reed
McDowell
Currie
Steyn
Paterson
Sebastian
Harrison
McBeth
Williamson
Brown
Dobie
Hastings
Jones

Edited mine to reflect the four players leaving but realise we are pretty similar BG. Chile should be the easier match left

Ah, Chile. 22nd in the world and with great hair.
Coming off the back of recent wins against Belgium and Honkers.
A better benchmark was the last RWC and the warm up games for it:
Uruguay 26 - 25 Chile
Chile 16 - 28 Namibia
Japan 42 - 12 Chile
Samoa 43 - 12 Chile
Ingerlund 71 - 0 Chile
Argentina 59 - 5 Chile
I suspect Edinburgh could play and we'd still get the W.

For this relatively new to the game of rugby fan, can you let me know a bit about the new players called up: Fin Richardson, Robert Carmichael and Ben Afshar and are they likely to get any game time ?

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
They are all inexperienced players with only Afshar really having had any URC gametime.
They are promising young players though and will benefit from some time with the squad and will be especially useful in training once the non Scotland based players go home after the weekend.
They are only likely to see some gametime though if we pick up any injuries before the last match.

Highland Shaun, Ben Afshar is the SRU's next big headache. He looks a really, really exciting prospect at 9. Unfortunately he is third behind Hornito and House Elf. Some people say that Aldi Price took early retirement and a comfy armchair at the Library because he was third in line at Glasgow...others say Ashfar pushed him into fourth place and out the door.

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
I think ashfar needs more game time. Look at cam roigard for nz, arguably their best scrum half now (despite his injury). Given an opportunity for Hurricaines and catapulted into the AB’s match day XXIII and was one of the best players of the World Cup.
Did anyone notice we’ve gained 0 ranking points despite two wins this summer?

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Afshar definitely needs more game time, but he will get that next season.
Dobie and Horne both likely to be in the international squads, so he will be covering the, plus he will get rotated in and out of the match day squad. That is even before any injuries.
Give him another season and BA will be pushing for the international squad in his own right.

No wonder, we should probably be deducted points for not beating the Canucks by more than 150.bsando wrote:I think ashfar needs more game time. Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Great result for the under 20s getting promoted to the top tier tournament again. And it wasn't even close - we humped every team we played.
Hopefully a sign of better things to come from our under 20. The major issue is still unresolved though - where will they play regular, good quality gametime?

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Yes, there loos to be some promising players in this cohort and you would hope some of them go on to be pros and full internatuionals.
O-Connell, Douglas, both Blyth-Rafertty's were probably the stand outs but plenty of others put their hands up. A few of them will still be U20 next year as well.
It will be a lot tougher at the top table, but at least we will be there.

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Decent side, the main/only real gripe I have is having Steyn at 13 instead of starting McDowall or Currie.
Should be a simple win but will be good to see how Warr - Healy - Tuipulotu works in combination. Hopefully our front five can set a marker as well

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Toonie said in his interview that they are keen to try Steyn at 13, where a lot of players feel he plays better than on the wing. On a tour like this, it is likely worth a punt.
No doubt he'll move back to the wing when Dobie moves in to SH at some point in the second half.

There is a complete lack of a no 9 on the bench. It is possible, unlikely but still possible, that both 9's get injured and we end up with Max Williamson putting in at the scrum.

Re: Scotland Autumn Fixtures
Well he had a decent first game but probably hard to draw to many conclusions when playing Canada, who were very poor.
We may learn a little bit more this weekend against Chile.
I would say he is a good addition to our SH pool though. We have some good depth there now.

Nice day in Santiago with a decent crowd in the stadium, over 15,000 tickets sold.
The Pipe Band of the Andes played a good tune to.
I am actually pleased we have come down here to play, it clearly means a lot to the Chilean Rugby Community
Hope it is a good game

Lucky doesn't even cover it, could be 6-0 and Chile would absolutely deserve it!
Raynal is probably the worst of the international refs.

Difficult game for Scotland to navigate this, at the end of a very long season. If they pump Chile people will say 'whatever', but if it is close they will be crucified.

You can see the naivety from the Chileans, they occasionally have Scotland on the back foot and just push the law that little bit too far.

Chile lack of a scrum is likely to cost them and they are very close to a YC.
Fair play to them though, they are clearly relishing the chance to have a crack at a better ranked team.

I can't help feel that the sooner The House Elf goes to 9 the better. Warr hasn't done anything to convince yet. The back row, apart from brown's breakout, have been very...competent.
Seaman to 14.
Currie on at 13
House Elf to 9.
Warr, Hurd and the back row all have ten minutes to make an impression.
Chile have been impressive; hopefully they get something out of this game.
