OK, Lawrence probably gave it to Hendy since Hendy had put a good - but clean - shot on Russell a couple of minutes earlier. Old school policing of the game. But the term 'duty of care' has been coming up in Rugby more frequently recently. I think that fits the bill.formerly known as Sam wrote:Duty281 wrote:doctor_grey wrote:Being a Saints fan is tough on the heart. Thought I was about to burst a vein or two.
I thought Lawrence deserved a yellow for his hit on Hendy, a deliberate attempt to injure.
A disgusting cheap shot with plenty of malice. Hope he gets banned.
It was a cheap shot but there was nothing particularly dangerous about it. He followed through to just see how good Hendy was feeling, bit of old school roughing up. Ref called it spot on with just a penalty because it was just late. Context doesn't come into the decision making. Sneaky and dirty from Lawrence.
Agree it was a bit of an old school hit, and goodness knows back in the day, no one would even comment about either the hit or Lawrence's clear enjoyment of his hit (why else would he have been smiling?). But that was then and this is now. I freely admit to both receiving and committing a few (sic) of those in the past....
As I said it was late and it was cheap. He wrapped his arms though and other than being cynically late was legal. Per the letter of the law a penalty is all it is.
I two have been on the end of a couple and may have left the shoulder in after the ball had gone once or twice. Funnily once by accident on a flyhalf running across the pitch who panicked and passed when he saw me come out the line, I turned to watch the pass whilst running forward and accidentally sent him flying. Got a yellow card for not wrapping and hitting late to add to the ribbing I got.

Reddit post has a graphic showing Premiership playoff chances
Gloucester 8.6%, Quins 10.3%, Saints 21%, Sale 39.9%, Leicester 50.1% and the top 3, Saracens, Bristol and Bath, all above 80%.
A similar exercise in the URC gave Ospreys something like a 3% chance and they then went on a run and made the playoffs.
It'll be interesting to see how results in Europe affect how teams look to prioritize resources over the rest of the season.
