If you were an NFL player, would you rather win the Superbowl or be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Just as it says in the title guys.
There have been many Superbowl winners, but only a precious few make it to Canton and those guys are remembered as legends.
The choice is yours.

There are those who have argued long and hard that you can't make it to Canton unless you have a ring, I don't share that view but owning a ring proves that you were a champion and part of something very special, being a HOFamer says you are a legend of the sport not a champion.
Personally I'd rather be a champion

I'd rather be a legend.
Put it this way, I'd rather be Dan Marino than Brad Johnson.

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Really I'd like to win the Superbowl and be in the Hall of Fame, but after thinking it over more than I did before voting, I think I would rather be in the Hall of Fame than win the Superbowl. Being in the Hall of Fame makes you a legend of the sport but there are people who might only be on the field for 1 play and they can get a Superbowl ring.

Super Bowl for me.
It's a team sport and I can't imagine there are many better feelings than winning the big one with your team & having all those memories from NFL Films.
I'd rather that, than be a player in the Hall that has never won a ring and have that regret.

I don't get why you'd rather play a couple of special teams plays in the SB and your team wins?
Someone like Marino is remembered as possibly the greatest QB ever to play the game. I'd rather be him.

superbowl means your talents were well used. Just getting in the hall of fame means that your talents or team never helped you to win the most important game of all, you may be as good as marino or anyone else but you still never won the one that mattered

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
I voted Superbowl, people play sports to win - and I would want to win the big one!
Your legacy is something that is debateable. If you have won the Superbowl there is no debate, for that year you were part of the best team.
Surprised how one sided the vote is - I would have expected a closer result!

Really good question, I kept wavering between the two answers but in the end I voted for a Superbowl just for the feeling that you had achieved something bigger than yourself and had helped others to do the same.

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Having played team sport all my life you can't beat the camaraderie of being in a talented unit and winning, it's not just about winning on the field it's about planning, strategising and working with your mates, training with them, drinking with them, eating with them, sharing rooms with them etc etc etc so that come the season a large group of people are all aware of how each other behave and what makes them tick.
There can be no better feeling than going through all of this and coming out the winner, the best around.
I take Pr4wns Dan Marino/Brad Johnson argument, but Marino would never have experienced what I describel above at the very highest level

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Sure it's a team sport and to be part of the best team in a year would be a great feeling, but it's surely quite a crap feeling being sat on the bench for all but 1 or 2 plays. You can show your grandkids etc. the ring but you'll know you probably weren't key to that win, being in the Hall of Fame you can go down as the best player at that position ever, the guy kids want to be, the guy who's name may always be associated with that position I'm pretty sure that would be a great feeling too.
Any chance you can let us cancel votes?

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Its a tough question to answer.
Do you think Marino would swap his place in Canton for a superbowl ring?
Or do you think Brad Johnson would swap his ring for a place in Canton?
For the record, i've could've gone either way but plumped with Hall of Fame.

Well it's not really instead of voting in this poll, as you didn't really give him the option of registering and then voting, but still well done .Hobo wrote:He's agreed to a Q&A instead!

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
OK, its purely personal, but having played in two national championships, and won 1, I wouldn't swap the feeling of that win with anything (well in sport anyway). I know its nowhere near the same as the SB or HoF, but I would anticipate the SB is a there and then moment never to be forgotten, whereas the HoF comes later in life and (usually) some time after you finish playing.
Maybe its hard to compare because one is a memory of the celebration, whereas the other is a celebration of the memory?

World Champ, sure HOF is good and you recognised by your peers but winning it all for me sure you get your Brad Johnson and Dan Marino for comparison but what about players like Charles Haley who has 5 rings the Steelers of the 70's who have 4 Bradshaw etc and then there is Aikman et al with 3 rings

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
I can see what people are saying by choosing superbowl, but for me, to win the superbowl its all about a moment. A moment where you were better than everyone else.
The HoF is about a career of being exceptional, being the best of your position for 10+ years.
I'd take the prolonged succes over the moments.

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
Every pro you ask will say Superbowl because they still play in a team, I'm sure there are a few who secretly want HOF but if asked would vote the other way.

Re: Superbowl or Hall of Fame?
It is a tough question -- a championship is the ultimate prize they sweat and bleed for every season. I imagine a player's answer might change as they get closer to the end of their career. It would be awesome to be in the HoF, a real mark of validation on your individual career, but if you never win a Super Bowl, there would always have to be that void. Of course, the vast majority of Super Bowl players, you won't remember most of their names years down the road.
