James Foster agrees new Essex contract

Essex skipper James Foster has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new three-year contract with the club.

The 31-year-old wicketkeeper had been linked with a move away from Chelmsford after being given permission to speak to Hampshire.

He said: "I am delighted to have signed a three-year contract with Essex.

"When another club expresses interest in you it's tough not to listen, but I didn't want to leave Essex."

Foster, who has played seven Test matches and 11 one-day internationals for England, has spent his entire county career at Essex.

He added: "I still see playing cricket for Essex as a privilege and I will continue to give everything to the club as a player and captain."
