The Official Pub Quiz: The Rules

This topic is an introduction to an alteady popular game on 606v2. It is a quiz that takes place every other Friday hosted by myself on the following link: The Official Pub Quiz - Main Article. 

The Pub Quiz will feature 30 questions, each worth a single point. There will be a total of five rounds with the stated number of questions:

Sport & Leisure - 10
General Knowledge - 5
Music - 5
Geography & History - 5
Secret Round: Random Subject - 5

The top eight highest scorers for each quiz will recieve points towards the overall Pub Quiz League Table. The points system is as follows:
1st - 15, 2nd - 12, 3rd - 10, 4th - 8, 5th - 6, 6th - 4, 7th - 2, 8th - 1

I stress that you do not use search engines to aid you in the quiz. I'll never be able to enforce it but I hope people respect the rule. Besides, I'm sure everyone could get 100% if google were allowed but it's more fun not to use it! If you don't think you'll do well, just give it a try and see where you place. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Quizzes will be put up at some time before nine o'clock on the Friday morning and you have until midnight that same day to complete your answers. Each poster will compete by him/herself and no conferring is allowed. Once you have finished filling in the answers sheet (On page four of the main article) you are required to send it to me in a private message, so others cannot see your answers. Any late entries will be ignored.

The Pub Quiz is just a bit of fun and there are no prizes (just Kudos). I do realise that it is possible to cheat using some means of Internet, but I trust that all of you will answer honestly. The results will be posted in an accumulating table, so if you do well it will be acknowledged in there. The league table can be found on page 3 of the main Pub Quiz article.

The questions will all be written by myself and i will also be marking each and every question. After I have marked each entry for the quiz, the answers will be posted in The Pub Quiz: Main Article and I will update The Pub Quiz: League Table (also in the main article). If you have some disputes with the answers to any of the questions, I apologise if I am wrong, but I will not be changing the results.

I will post the quiz some time before nine o'clock on the Friday morning and it finishes at midnight on friday evening.

I think I will have to make people pm the message to me, as some people may read other's answers to find it out. I have written some of the first quiz already and there are two questions on anagrams, which everyone would copy once someone posts an answer.

Yep - PM seems the right way to go for answers.

"Cheating" will be a problem (I've set AND participated in many internet quizzes over the years). As you say, you'll just have to trust people but there will always be some people who will abuse that trust.

It's only for fun though so I'll look forward to it

If there was an actual prize on offer I would expect many participants to cheat to earn the prize. However, as this is a friendly site and the quizzes are just for fun I do hope that people taking part will be 100% honest.

By the way if you have any other ideas that would help get more people to take part or to make the quiz format better, I will welcome it with warm arms

a picture quiz with several links to random 'famous people' you wont be able to cheat on that

Yeah picture rounds are much harder to google. You can maybe use google to check your answers but you can't get it to solve it for you

Okay, so how do I give a link to the picture that doesn't give the answer away in it?

Do you have a photobucket account? Find the pics, save them to your PC then upload them to photobucket (or similar) as pic1, pic2, pic3 etc.

Give the links to the photobucket pictures and no one will know where you've got them from

Yes - very easy. Go to www.photobucket.com and register. You'll then get instructions on how to upload photos and it will even tell you the link to display your photos

Thanks Davie I've done a couple of pics now, but was just wondering whether everyone will be able to access that site?

photobucket should be accessible to most (as long as you don't set your pictures to private).

im in, i love a good quiz . i am sports genius

This isn't just a sports quiz though. You will need to have a bit of general knowledge and trivia to do well

ah shouldn't be too hard . im good at most them subjects.

Now I'm having some more problems with technical issues, as I have completed writing the quiz.

• When I previewed the quiz the 8 followed by ) comes up as 8). Is there any way of disabling emoticons?

• The pictures I have inserted into the quiz come up as long links. How would I get it to show as 'Click Here'?

with the links Legend, if you click on the tab that looks like a chain, put the link in the top box, and the description in the bottom box.
With the smilies we cant disable them, can you put 8.)

There is one more problem ...

I seem to have loads of different threads such as this one, the quizzes, answers, answer sheet and the results table. I'm just worried that it is going to clog up the nags head and people won't be best pleased. Should we have a sub thread purely for The Pub Quiz or something along those lines?

i would suggest postng the questions in the main article, reply to it and make the 2nd post the answers, and put the table in the 3rd post.
Similar to how Sirius has done the virtual bookmaker.
You can edit each post or the main article each week to update the table and put the new questions on etc
