Announcement concerning 606v2
First topic message reminder :
Hello all.
The forum has now been going for just over 6 months and since its inception, we have grown more quickly than any of us could ever have imagined.
We have exceeded well over the 3,000 member mark and are closing in on the half a million post mark, to which we owe you our thanks.
We have had some exciting link ups in these 6 months since launch, and continue to work hard for you, the members, to get exclusives.
From competitions and Q&As to a discounted shop and sponsored charity, the last 6 months have gone by in a blur. We hope to carry on in this vein over the coming months and years, and will be looking to get bigger names and prizes as we move forward.
However, as we gain more exposure, we have also come encountered some issues, too, and that is the reason why this message is going out to you.
I recently tried to get a mini interview with Robbie Savage whilst covering the John Hartson Trophy match. I did manage to get interviews with some of the stars (Calzaghe, Gethin Jones, Hartson etc) but was knocked back by Robbie. The reason?
606.
Robbie was very pleasant but this is what he said (a paraphrasing of his comments, anyway).
You are the guys from 606v2 aren't you? I can't talk to you. I am not being an arse, but I am not allowed to talk to you due to the name. My bosses have told me not to get involved with you, that's why I haven't tweeted your messages.....etc
I was also told to avoid the BBC lawyer at the event!
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Hero and I discussed it at the time and agreed that maybe it is better to think about changing the name of the site. The majority of people who would have joined from 606 will have done so by now - the continued growth of the forum will not be down to 606 members but they will come through other avenues - advertising, facebook, twitter, link ups etc.
The name 606 doesn't actually mean anything to anyone not familiar with the old forum, and it could stop us growing should the BBC decide to ever re-open or actively chase us down the legal route.
Therefore, we have decided to rebrand the forum at some point in the near future to the v2sportsforum.
And this is where you guys and gals come in. We are going to have ourselves a little competition.
We need a new logo.
So although there is no prize so to speak, you may get to design our new logo and be part of our history.
If you want to submit an entry, just post it on this thread (within a spoiler tag of course) and be a part of the v2 history going forward. The logo must fit in with the current colour scheme of the site, and the Mod and Admin team will decide upon the winner. Feel free to design a logo for both "v2" and "v2sportsforum" as we may use the "v2" brand elsewhere in the future.
Thanks once again for all of your support so far - let's now all work on the next step in our growth.

Not sure if it can be used as a reliable ornithological text, though.

If the change creates more oppertunities and less possible problems then it can only be a good thing, fair play to Savage though, no-one can beat honesty

This is the issue we are faced with, the domain needs to be available and we cant use a name used by an existing company.

Going with Windy's idea of something involving Sports Lounge, I'd suggest v3 sports lounge.

It wasn't seen as a problem at the outset. (especially with the likes of ja606, not606 and new606)
Remember, when v2 was made, it was just with the intention for a few mates from 606 to stay together. We never thought it would become what it has.

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
Personally I think its rather daft to keep the v2 part (if 606 is being dropped), v2 was wholly fitting to the reason why the forum was started, or rather why the majority of users transferred from another domain.
Someone mentioned SOS, I feel thats a very fitting name/title, for quite obvious (...yet ambiguous) reasoning. Whilst it also ties into the inception of the forum in the first place.

Turn it upside down - how about "909", which also has echoes of the dear old Beeb too.

We could always leave it how it is, and not talk to Robbie Savage.
Steve Bunce was OK with it while working for the BBC, I just don't think Savage wanted to talk to you.

There is already a sossports, and i am sure SOS will be a name a lot of people would use (quick glance at google confirms this).
That said I too love the name. We can have the tag that incorperates it....

Are we sure that the BBC has the rights to the number 606? It is, after all, a number.
Do we assume that they might be suing a few bus companies in the future, not to mention anyone who is quite good at counting?

You can imagine two teachers in an argument:
1: “What is 303 doubled?”
2: “Don’t answer it kids, you might get sued!”
