HHH vs Broom rated a Dud by Dave Meltzer

San Jose, CA – Former World Wrestling Entertainment Chief Operating Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque faced arguably his most interesting opponent to date as he battled a broom at the Smackdown tapings in San Jose, California this week. The match stemmed from a comment Levesque had made on Monday's Raw in which he claimed he could have a better match with the household apparatus than most of the WWE roster.

Sadly for Levesque, onlookers were not impressed.

“The match honestly just wasn’t very good,” noted Dave Meltzer, publisher of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. “The psychology was all messed up, and there really wasn’t much action at all. The few moves that were in the match seemed very forced, with the running knee spot in particular looking awful. I can’t believe Hunter actually thought that would be a good idea. You'd think he'd know the strengths and weaknesses of the guy he's in there with and play to those.”

Meltzer stated he was also confused as to why Hunter used his finisher five consecutive times on the broom.

“Kicking out of finishers is just so, so stupid,” Meltzer explained. “It just kills that finisher moving forward. Is anyone really going to believe that the Pedigree can end a match now that the broom kicked out of it four times? That type of thing really needs to be reserved for big events like WrestleMania.”

While WWE trumpeted the match as a “first ever”, that was not actually the case, noted wrestling’s most respected historian. “Ric Flair used to wrestle brooms all the time back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. They were never billed ahead of time, because seriously, who would buy a ticket to see a man wrestle a broom? But if Flair’s opponent would no show, he would get the broom out of the closet and go to town. I distinctly remember a Flair vs. Broom match from Gainesville, Georgia in 1983 when Tommy Rich’s flight was canceled. Flair was actually able to get *** out of the broom. I think the people in Gainesville actually believed that the broom might win the NWA title that night. It was amazing.”

“Triple H just proved on Tuesday night what we knew all along: that he’s no Ric Flair,” Meltzer concluded.

When asked for comment, Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Radio co-host Bryan Alvarez stated that while the match was in fact no good, the broom should be commended for running the ropes better than Kelly Kelly.

The only thing that would have made this better for me is if it had said that Flair went 60 minutes with the broom.

Flair would go 60 minutes elbow dropping his jacket

John Morrison is probably more wooden than a broom, although the broom probably has more charisma so for that i reckon Melina would ride the hell out of it.

I haven't seen anyone go over in 2 straight falls since MVP beat Chris Benoit.
